2024-01-18i2c: Don't let i2c adapters declare I2C_CLASS_SPD support if they support ↵Heiner Kallweit1-1/+1
I2C_CLASS_HWMON After removal of the legacy eeprom driver the only remaining I2C client device driver supporting I2C_CLASS_SPD is jc42. Because this driver also supports I2C_CLASS_HWMON, adapters don't have to declare support for I2C_CLASS_SPD if they support I2C_CLASS_HWMON. It's one step towards getting rid of I2C_CLASS_SPD mid-term. The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. 2010-05-21i2c-nforce2: Remove redundant error messages on ACPI conflictChase Douglas1-6/+4
The ACPI subsystem strictly checks for resource conflicts. When there's a conflict, it outputs a warning message with all the details needed to properly diagnose the underlying issue. However, the i2c-nforce2 driver also prints its own message. Not only is the message redundant, it is at the KERN_ERR level, which overrides some bootsplash screens for no good reason. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo1-0/+1
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. Let general purpose I2C/SMBus bus drivers add SPD to their class. Once this is done, we will be able to tell the eeprom driver to only probe for SPD EEPROMs and similar on these buses. Note that I took a conservative approach here, adding I2C_CLASS_SPD to many drivers that have no idea whether they can host SPD EEPROMs or not. This is to make sure that the eeprom driver doesn't stop probing buses where SPD EEPROMs or equivalent live. So, bus driver maintainers and users should feel free to remove the SPD class from drivers those buses never have SPD EEPROMs or they don't want the eeprom driver to bind to them. Tighten error paths used by various i2c adapters (mostly x86) so they return real fault/errno codes instead of a "-1" (which is most often interpreted as "-EPERM"). Build tested, with eyeball review. One minor initial goal is to have adapters consistently return the code "-ENXIO" when addressing a device doesn't get an ACK response, at least in the probe paths where they are already good at stifling related logspam. Just like the Tyan S4882, the S4985 uses a multiplexer to give access to all 16 memory module SPD EEPROMs. This specific i2c-nforce2-s4985 driver adds support for this. It is heavily based on the older i2c-amd756-s4882 driver. As more mainboards will use multiplexer chips, we will have to find a way to support them without having to write a new specfic driver for each. There is a strange chip at 0x2e on the second SMBus channel of the DFI Lanparty NF4 Expert motherboard. Accessing the chip reboots the system. As there's nothing interesting on this SMBus channel, the easiest and safest thing to do is to disable it on that board. This patch is to add an abort function that will bring back the MCP51/55 controller if it was blocked by a block-read operation, in particular. (When a slave sends a wrong byte count on a byte read, the host gets locked up). I've only tested it on an MCP51 and MCP55. However, I'm almost certain it will also work on MCP65, I just did not have the board to test it on. Thus for now the abort function will only be called if an MCP51/55 was detected. This shrinks the size of "struct i2c_client" by 40 bytes: - Substantially shrinks the string used to identify the chip type - The "flags" don't need to be so big - Removes some internal padding It also adds kerneldoc for that struct, explaining how "name" is really a chip type identifier; it's otherwise potentially confusing. Because the I2C_NAME_SIZE symbol was abused for both i2c_client.name and for i2c_adapter.name, this needed to affect i2c_adapter too. The adapters which used that symbol now use the more-obviously-correct idiom of taking the size of that field. JD: Shorten i2c_adapter.name from 50 to 48 bytes while we're here, to avoid wasting space in padding. After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files).
