except, again, POLLFREE and POLL_BUSY_LOOP.
With this, we finally get to the promised end result:
- POLL{IN,OUT,...} are plain integers and *not* in __poll_t, so any
stray instances of ->poll() still using those will be caught by
sparse.
- eventpoll.c and select.c warning-free wrt __poll_t
- no more kernel-side definitions of POLL... - userland ones are
visible through the entire kernel (and used pretty much only for
mangle/demangle)
- same behavior as after the first series (i.e. sparc et.al. epoll(2)
working correctly).

This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:
for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
done
with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.
NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.
The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

Pull more poll annotation updates from Al Viro:
"This is preparation to solving the problems you've mentioned in the
original poll series.
After this series, the kernel is ready for running
for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
done
as a for bulk search-and-replace.
After that, the kernel is ready to apply the patch to unify
{de,}mangle_poll(), and then get rid of kernel-side POLL... uses
entirely, and we should be all done with that stuff.
Basically, that's what you suggested wrt KPOLL..., except that we can
use EPOLL... instead - they already are arch-independent (and equal to
what is currently kernel-side POLL...).
After the preparations (in this series) switch to returning EPOLL...
from ->poll() instances is completely mechanical and kernel-side
POLL... can go away. The last step (killing kernel-side POLL... and
unifying {de,}mangle_poll() has to be done after the
search-and-replace job, since we need userland-side POLL... for
unified {de,}mangle_poll(), thus the cherry-pick at the last step.
After that we will have:
- POLL{IN,OUT,...} *not* in __poll_t, so any stray instances of
->poll() still using those will be caught by sparse.
- eventpoll.c and select.c warning-free wrt __poll_t
- no more kernel-side definitions of POLL... - userland ones are
visible through the entire kernel (and used pretty much only for
mangle/demangle)

The commit 917538e212a2 ("kasan: clean up KASAN_SHADOW_SCALE_SHIFT

Improve the DTS files by removing all the leading "0x" and zeros to fix the
following dtc warnings:
Warning (unit_address_format): Node /XXX unit name should not have leading "0x"
and
Warning (unit_address_format): Node /XXX unit name should not have leading 0s
Converted using the following command:
find . -type f \( -iname *.dts -o -iname *.dtsi \) -exec sed -E -i -e "s/@0x([0-9a-fA-F\.]+)\s?\{/@\L\1 \{/g" -e "s/@0+([0-9a-fA-F\.]+)\s?\{/@\L\1 \{/g" {} +
For simplicity, two sed expressions were used to solve each warnings separately.
To make the regex expression more robust a few other issues were resolved,
namely setting unit-address to lower case, and adding a whitespace before the
the opening curly brace:

59f47eff03a0 ("powerpc/pci: Use of_irq_parse_and_map_pci() helper")
replaced of_irq_parse_pci() + irq_create_of_mapping() with
of_irq_parse_and_map_pci(), but neglected to capture the virq
returned by irq_create_of_mapping(), so virq remained zero, which
caused INTx configuration to fail.
Save the virq value returned by of_irq_parse_and_map_pci() and correct
the virq declaration to match the of_irq_parse_and_map_pci() signature.

Second PPC KVM update for 4.16
Seven fixes that are either trivial or that address bugs that people
are actually hitting. The main ones are:
- Drop spinlocks before reading guest memory
- Fix a bug causing corruption of VCPU state in PR KVM with preemption
enabled
- Make HPT resizing work on POWER9
- Add MMIO emulation for vector loads and stores, because guests now
use these instructions in memcpy and similar routines.

This topic branch allocates separate MSR bitmaps for each VCPU.
This is required for the IBRS enablement to choose, on a per-VM
basis, whether to intercept the SPEC_CTRL and PRED_CMD MSRs;
the IBRS enablement comes in through the tip tree.

Here the chunk size for INIT_ACK packet becomes too big, mostly
because of the state cookie (INIT packet has large size with
many address parameters), plus additional server parameters.
Later this chunk causes the panic in skb_put_data():
skb_packet_transmit()
sctp_packet_pack()
skb_put_data(nskb, chunk->skb->data, chunk->skb->len);
'nskb' (head skb) was previously allocated with packet->size
from u16 'chunk->chunk_hdr->length'.
As suggested by Marcelo we should check the chunk's length in
_sctp_make_chunk() before trying to allocate skb for it and
discard a chunk if its size bigger than SCTP_MAX_CHUNK_LEN.

For a memory range/skb where the last byte falls onto a page boundary
(ie. 'end' is of the form xxx...xxx001), the PFN_UP() part of the
calculation currently doesn't round up to the next PFN due to an
off-by-one error.
Thus qeth believes that the skb occupies one page less than it
actually does, and may select a IO buffer that doesn't have enough spare
buffer elements to fit all of the skb's data.
HW detects this as a malformed buffer descriptor, and raises an
exception which then triggers device recovery.

For dwmac4, GMAC_INT_DEFAULT_ENABLE already includes
GMAC_INT_PMT_EN, so it is redundant to check if hw->pmt
is set, and if so, setting the bit again.
For dwmac1000, GMAC_INT_DEFAULT_MASK does not include
GMAC_INT_DISABLE_PMT, so it is redundant to check if
hw->pmt is set, and if so, clearing an already cleared bit.
Improve code readability by removing this redundant code.

The interrupt status register in both dwmac1000 and dwmac4 ignores
interrupt enable (for dwmac4) / interrupt mask (for dwmac1000).
Therefore, if we want to check only the bits that can actually trigger
an irq, we have to filter the interrupt status register manually.
Commit 0a764db10337 ("stmmac: Discard masked flags in interrupt status
register") fixed this for dwmac1000. Fix the same issue for dwmac4.

When allocating RX or TX buffer pools, the driver needs to provide a
unique mapping ID to firmware for each pool. This value is assigned
using a counter which is incremented after a new pool is created. The
ID can be an integer ranging from 1-255. When migrating to a device
that requests a different number of queues, this value was not being
reset properly. As a result, after enough migrations, the counter
exceeded the upper bound and pool creation failed. This is fixed by
resetting the counter to one in this case.

pull-request: bpf 2018-02-09
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Two fixes for BPF sockmap in order to break up circular map references
from programs attached to sockmap, and detaching related sockets in
case of socket close() event. For the latter we get rid of the
smap_state_change() and plug into ULP infrastructure, which will later
also be used for additional features anyway such as TX hooks. For the
second issue, dependency chain is broken up via map release callback
to free parse/verdict programs, all from John.
2) Fix a libbpf relocation issue that was found while implementing XDP
support for Suricata project. Issue was that when clang was invoked
with default target instead of bpf target, then various other e.g.
debugging relevant sections are added to the ELF file that contained
relocation entries pointing to non-BPF related sections which libbpf
trips over instead of skipping them. Test cases for libbpf are added
as well, from Jesper.
3) Various misc fixes for bpftool and one for libbpf: a small addition
to libbpf to make sure it recognizes all standard section prefixes.
Then, the Makefile in bpftool/Documentation is improved to explicitly
check for rst2man being installed on the system as we otherwise risk
installing empty man pages; the man page for bpftool-map is corrected
and a set of missing bash completions added in order to avoid shipping
bpftool where the completions are only partially working, from Quentin.
4) Fix applying the relocation to immediate load instructions in the
nfp JIT which were missing a shift, from Jakub.
5) Two fixes for the BPF kernel selftests: handle CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON=y
gracefully in test_bpf.ko module and mark them as FLAG_EXPECTED_FAIL
in this case; and explicitly delete the veth devices in the two tests
test_xdp_{meta,redirect}.sh before dismantling the netnses as when
selftests are run in batch mode, then workqueue to handle destruction
might not have finished yet and thus veth creation in next test under
same dev name would fail, from Yonghong.
6) Fix test_kmod.sh to check the test_bpf.ko module path before performing
an insmod, and fallback to modprobe. Especially the latter is useful
when having a device under test that has the modules installed instead,
from Naresh.

function to the defense against spectre v1
- Two patches to utilize the new PPA-12/PPA-13 instructions to run
the kernel and/or user space with reduced branch predicton.
- The s390 variant of the 'retpoline' spectre v2 defense called
'expoline'. There is no return instruction for s390, instead an
indirect branch is used for function return
The s390 defense mechanism for indirect branches works by using an
execute-type instruction with the indirect branch as the target of
the execute. In effect that turns off the prediction for the
indirect branch.
- Scrub registers in entry.S that contain user controlled values to
prevent the speculative use of these values.
- Re-add the second parameter for the s390 specific runtime
instrumentation system call and move the header file to uapi. The
second parameter will continue to do nothing but older kernel
versions only accepted valid real-time signal numbers. The details
will be documented in the man-page for the system call.
- Corrections and improvements for the s390 specific documentation
- Add a line to /proc/sysinfo to display the CPU model dependent
license-internal-code identifier

We ended up with code that did a conditional branch inside a feature
section to code outside of the feature section. Depending on how the
object file gets organized, that might mean we exceed the 14bit
relocation limit for conditional branches:
arch/powerpc/kvm/built-in.o:arch/powerpc/kvm/book3s_hv_rmhandlers.S:416:(__ftr_alt_97+0x8): relocation truncated to fit: R_PPC64_REL14 against `.text'+1ca4
So instead of doing a conditional branch outside of the feature section,
let's just jump at the end of the same, making the branch very short.

This adds code to enable the HPT resizing code to work on POWER9,
which uses a slightly modified HPT entry format compared to POWER8.
On POWER9, we convert HPTEs read from the HPT from the new format to
the old format so that the rest of the HPT resizing code can work as
before. HPTEs written to the new HPT are converted to the new format
as the last step before writing them into the new HPT.
This takes out the checks added by commit bcd3bb63dbc8 ("KVM: PPC:
Book3S HV: Disable HPT resizing on POWER9 for now", 2017-02-18),
now that HPT resizing works on POWER9.
On POWER9, when we pivot to the new HPT, we now call
kvmppc_setup_partition_table() to update the partition table in order
to make the hardware use the new HPT.

This fixes the computation of the HPTE index to use when the HPT
resizing code encounters a bolted HPTE which is stored in its
secondary HPTE group. The code inverts the HPTE group number, which
is correct, but doesn't then mask it with new_hash_mask. As a result,
new_pteg will be effectively negative, resulting in new_hptep
pointing before the new HPT, which will corrupt memory.
In addition, this removes two BUG_ON statements. The condition that
the BUG_ONs were testing -- that we have computed the hash value
incorrectly -- has never been observed in testing, and if it did
occur, would only affect the guest, not the host. Given that
BUG_ON should only be used in conditions where the kernel (i.e.
the host kernel, in this case) can't possibly continue execution,
it is not appropriate here.

Jesper Dangaard Brouer says:
====================
While playing with using libbpf for the Suricata project, we had
issues LLVM >= 4.0.1 generating ELF files that could not be loaded
with libbpf (tools/lib/bpf/).
During the troubleshooting phase, I wrote a test program and improved
the debugging output in libbpf. I turned this into a selftests
program, and it also serves as a code example for libbpf in itself.
I discovered that there are at least three ELF load issues with
libbpf. I left them as TODO comments in (tools/testing/selftests/bpf)
test_libbpf.sh. I've only fixed the load issue with eh_frames, and
other types of relo-section that does not have exec flags. We can
work on the other issues later.

V3: More generic skipping of relo-section (suggested by Daniel)
If clang >= 4.0.1 is missing the option '-target bpf', it will cause
llc/llvm to create two ELF sections for "Exception Frames", with
section names '.eh_frame' and '.rel.eh_frame'.
The BPF ELF loader library libbpf fails when loading files with these
sections. The other in-kernel BPF ELF loader in samples/bpf/bpf_load.c,
handle this gracefully. And iproute2 loader also seems to work with these
"eh" sections.
The issue in libbpf is caused by bpf_object__elf_collect() skipping
some sections, and later when performing relocation it will be
pointing to a skipped section, as these sections cannot be found by
bpf_object__find_prog_by_idx() in bpf_object__collect_reloc().
This is a general issue that also occurs for other sections, like
debug sections which are also skipped and can have relo section.
As suggested by Daniel. To avoid keeping state about all skipped
sections, instead perform a direct qlookup in the ELF object. Lookup
the section that the relo-section points to and check if it contains
executable machine instructions (denoted by the sh_flags
SHF_EXECINSTR). Use this check to also skip irrelevant relo-sections.
Note, for samples/bpf/ the '-target bpf' parameter to clang cannot be used
due to incompatibility with asm embedded headers, that some of the samples
include. This is explained in more details by Yonghong Song in bpf_devel_QA.

This script test_libbpf.sh will be part of the 'make run_tests'
invocation, but can also be invoked manually in this directory,
and a verbose mode can be enabled via setting the environment
variable $VERBOSE like:
$ VERBOSE=yes ./test_libbpf.sh
The script contains some tests that are commented out, as they
currently fail. They are reminders about what we need to improve
for the libbpf loader library.

V2: Moved program into selftests/bpf from tools/libbpf
This program can be used on its own for testing/debugging if a
BPF ELF-object file can be loaded with libbpf (from tools/lib/bpf).
If something is wrong with the ELF object, the program have
a --debug mode that will display the ELF sections and especially
the skipped sections. This allows for quickly identifying the
problematic ELF section number, which can be corrolated with the
readelf tool.
The program signal error via return codes, and also have
a --quiet mode, which is practical for use in scripts like
selftests/bpf.

While debugging a bpf ELF loading issue, I needed to correlate the
ELF section number with the failed relocation section reference.
Thus, add section numbers/index to the pr_debug.
In debug mode, also print section that were skipped. This helped
me identify that a section (.eh_frame) was skipped, and this was
the reason the relocation section (.rel.eh_frame) could not find
that section number.
The section numbers corresponds to the readelf tools Section Headers [Nr].

Hi folks,
On a multi-core machine, is it expected that we can have parallel RPCs
handled by each of the per-core workqueue?
In testing a read workload, observing via "top" command that a single
"kworker" thread is running servicing the requests (no parallelism).
It's more prominent while doing these operations over krb5p mount.
What has been suggested by Bruce is to try this and in my testing I
see then the read workload spread among all the kworker threads.

The Cavium thunder nicvf driver supports rx/tx rings of up to 65536 entries per.
The number of entires are stored in the q_len member of struct q_desc_mem. The
problem is that q_len being a u16, results in 65536 becoming 0.
In getting pointers to descriptors in the rings, the driver uses q_len minus 1
as a mask after incrementing the pointer, in order to go back to the beginning
and not go past the end of the ring.
With the q_len set to 0 the mask is no longer correct and the driver does go
beyond the end of the ring, causing various ills. Usually the first thing that
shows up is a "NETDEV WATCHDOG: enP2p1s0f1 (nicvf): transmit queue 7 timed out"
warning.
This patch remedies the problem by changing q_len to a u32.

In commit d618d09a68e4 ("tipc: enforce valid ratio between skb truesize
and contents") we introduced a test for ensuring that the condition
truesize/datasize <= 4 is true for a received buffer. Unfortunately this
test has two problems.
- Because of the integer arithmetics the test
if (skb->truesize / buf_roundup_len(skb) > 4) will miss all
ratios [4 < ratio < 5], which was not the intention.
- The buffer returned by skb_copy() inherits skb->truesize of the
original buffer, which doesn't help the situation at all.
In this commit, we change the ratio condition and replace skb_copy()
with a call to skb_copy_expand() to finally get this right.

mpls_label_ok() validates that the 'platform_label' array index from a
userspace netlink message payload is valid. Under speculation the
mpls_label_ok() result may not resolve in the CPU pipeline until after
the index is used to access an array element. Sanitize the index to zero
to prevent userspace-controlled arbitrary out-of-bounds speculation, a
precursor for a speculative execution side channel vulnerability.

rds connection/workq management
An rds_connection can get added during netns deletion between lines 528
and 529 of
506 static void rds_tcp_kill_sock(struct net *net)
:
/* code to pull out all the rds_connections that should be destroyed */
:
528 spin_unlock_irq(&rds_tcp_conn_lock);
529 list_for_each_entry_safe(tc, _tc, &tmp_list, t_tcp_node)
530 rds_conn_destroy(tc->t_cpath->cp_conn);
Such an rds_connection would miss out the rds_conn_destroy()
loop (that cancels all pending work) and (if it was scheduled
after netns deletion) could trigger the use-after-free.
A similar race-window exists for the module unload path
in rds_tcp_exit -> rds_tcp_destroy_conns
Concurrency with netns deletion (rds_tcp_kill_sock()) must be handled
by checking check_net() before enqueuing new work or adding new
connections.
Concurrency with module-unload is handled by maintaining a module
specific flag that is set at the start of the module exit function,
and must be checked before enqueuing new work or adding new connections.
This commit refactors existing RDS_DESTROY_PENDING checks added by
commit 3db6e0d172c9 ("rds: use RCU to synchronize work-enqueue with
connection teardown") and consolidates all the concurrency checks
listed above into the function rds_destroy_pending().

Most callers of put_cmsg() use a "sizeof(foo)" for the length argument.
Within put_cmsg(), a copy_to_user() call is made with a dynamic size, as a
result of the cmsg header calculations. This means that hardened usercopy
will examine the copy, even though it was technically a fixed size and
should be implicitly whitelisted. All the put_cmsg() calls being built
from values in skbuff_head_cache are coming out of the protocol-defined
"cb" field, so whitelist this field entirely instead of creating per-use
bounce buffers, for which there are concerns about performance.

Since we've added support for IFLA_IF_NETNSID for RTM_{DEL,GET,SET,NEW}LINK
it is possible for userspace to send us requests with three different
properties to identify a target network namespace. This affects at least
RTM_{NEW,SET}LINK. Each of them could potentially refer to a different
network namespace which is confusing. For legacy reasons the kernel will
pick the IFLA_NET_NS_PID property first and then look for the
IFLA_NET_NS_FD property but there is no reason to extend this type of
behavior to network namespace ids. The regression potential is quite
minimal since the rtnetlink requests in question either won't allow
IFLA_IF_NETNSID requests before 4.16 is out (RTM_{NEW,SET}LINK) or don't
support IFLA_NET_NS_{PID,FD} (RTM_{DEL,GET}LINK) in the first place.

When using devmap to redirect packets between interfaces,
xdp_do_flush() is usually a must to flush any batched
packets. Unfortunately this is missed in current tuntap
implementation.
Unlike most hardware driver which did XDP inside NAPI loop and call
xdp_do_flush() at then end of each round of poll. TAP did it in the
context of process e.g tun_get_user(). So fix this by count the
pending redirected packets and flush when it exceeds NAPI_POLL_WEIGHT
or MSG_MORE was cleared by sendmsg() caller.
With this fix, xdp_redirect_map works again between two TAPs.

If stdio is not tty, conf_askvalue() puts additional new line to
prevent prompts from being concatenated into a single line. This
care is missing in conf_choice(), so a 'choice' prompt and the next
prompt are shown in the same line.
Move the code into xfgets() to cater to all cases. To improve this
more, let's echo stdin to stdout. This clarifies what keys were

A single NFSv4 WRITE compound can often have three operations:
PUTFH, WRITE, then GETATTR.
When the WRITE payload is sent in a Read chunk, the client places
the GETATTR in the inline part of the RPC/RDMA message, just after
the WRITE operation (sans payload). The position value in the Read
chunk enables the receiver to insert the Read chunk at the correct
place in the received XDR stream; that is between the WRITE and
GETATTR.
According to RFC 8166, an NFS/RDMA client does not have to add XDR
round-up to the Read chunk that carries the WRITE payload. The
receiver adds XDR round-up padding if it is absent and the
receiver's XDR decoder requires it to be present.
Commit 193bcb7b3719 ("svcrdma: Populate tail iovec when receiving")
attempted to add support for receiving such a compound so that just
the WRITE payload appears in rq_arg's page list, and the trailing
GETATTR is placed in rq_arg's tail iovec. (TCP just strings the
whole compound into the head iovec and page list, without regard
to the alignment of the WRITE payload).
The server transport logic also had to accommodate the optional XDR
round-up of the Read chunk, which it did simply by lengthening the
tail iovec when round-up was needed. This approach is adequate for
the NFSv2 and NFSv3 WRITE decoders.
Unfortunately it is not sufficient for nfsd4_decode_write. When the
Read chunk length is a couple of bytes less than PAGE_SIZE, the
computation at the end of nfsd4_decode_write allows argp->pagelen to
go negative, which breaks the logic in read_buf that looks for the
tail iovec.
The result is that a WRITE operation whose payload length is just
less than a multiple of a page succeeds, but the subsequent GETATTR
in the same compound fails with NFS4ERR_OP_ILLEGAL because the XDR
decoder can't find it. Clients ignore the error, but they must
update their attribute cache via a separate round trip.
As nfsd4_decode_write appears to expect the payload itself to always
have appropriate XDR round-up, have svc_rdma_build_normal_read_chunk
add the Read chunk XDR round-up to the page_len rather than
lengthening the tail iovec.

There is now only one caller left for svcxdr_dupstr() and this is inside
of an #ifdef, so we can get a warning when the option is disabled:
fs/nfsd/nfs4xdr.c:241:1: error: 'svcxdr_dupstr' defined but not used [-Werror=unused-function]
This changes the remaining caller to use a nicer IS_ENABLED() check,
which lets the compiler drop the unused code silently.

The time values in stat and inode may differ for overlayfs and stat time
values are the correct ones to use. This is also consistent with the fact
that fill_post_wcc() also stores stat time values.
This means introducing a stat call that could fail, where previously we
were just copying values out of the inode. To be conservative about
changing behavior, we fall back to copying values out of the inode in
the error case. It might be better just to clear fh_pre_saved (though

The values of stat->mtime and inode->i_mtime may differ for overlayfs

This is also consistent with the fact that other attr times are also
encoded from stat values.
Both callers of lease_get_mtime() already have the value of stat->mtime,

A client that sends more than a hundred ops in a single compound
currently gets an rpc-level GARBAGE_ARGS error.
It would be more helpful to return NFS4ERR_RESOURCE, since that gives
the client a better idea how to recover (for example by splitting up the
compound into smaller compounds).
This is all a bit academic since we've never actually seen a reason for
clients to send such long compounds, but we may as well fix it.
While we're there, just use NFSD4_MAX_OPS_PER_COMPOUND == 16, the
constant we already use in the 4.1 case, instead of hard-coding 100.
Chances anyone actually uses even 16 ops per compound are small enough
that I think there's a neglible risk or any regression.
This fixes pynfs test COMP6.

__unregister_ftrace_function_probe() will incorrectly parse the glob filter
because it resets the search variable that was setup by filter_parse_regex().
Al Viro reported this:
After that call of filter_parse_regex() we could have func_g.search not
equal to glob only if glob started with '!' or '*'. In the former case
we would've buggered off with -EINVAL (not = 1). In the latter we
would've set func_g.search equal to glob + 1, calculated the length of
that thing in func_g.len and proceeded to reset func_g.search back to
glob.
Suppose the glob is e.g. *foo*. We end up with
func_g.type = MATCH_MIDDLE_ONLY;
func_g.len = 3;
func_g.search = "*foo";
Feeding that to ftrace_match_record() will not do anything sane - we
will be looking for names containing "*foo" (->len is ignored for that
one).

Jakub Kicinski says:
====================
nfp: fix disabling TC offloads in flower, max TSO segs and module version
This set corrects the way nfp deals with the NETIF_F_HW_TC flag.
It has slipped the review that flower offload does not currently
refuse disabling this flag when filter offload is active.
nfp's flower offload does not actually keep track of how many filters
for each port are offloaded. The accounting of the number of filters
is added to the nfp core structures, and BPF moved to use these
structures as well.
If users are allowed to disable TC offloads while filters are active,
not only is it incorrect behaviour, but actually the NFP will never
be told to remove the flows, leading to use-after-free when stats
arrive.
Fourth patch makes sure we declare the max number of TSO segments.
FW should drop longer packets cleanly (otherwise this would be a
security problem for untrusted VFs) but dropping longer TSO frames
is not nice and driver should prevent them from being generated.
Last small addition populates MODULE_VERSION with kernel version.

All netdevs which can accept TC offloads must implement
.ndo_set_features(). nfp_reprs currently do not do that, which
means hw-tc-offload can be turned on and off even when offloads
are active.
Whether the offloads are active is really a question to nfp_ports,
so remove the per-app tc_busy callback indirection thing, and
simply count the number of offloaded items in nfp_port structure.

nfp_port is a structure which represents an ASIC port, both
PCIe vNIC (on a PF or a VF) or the external MAC port. vNIC
netdev (struct nfp_net) and pure representor netdev (struct
nfp_repr) both have a pointer to this structure. nfp_reprs
always have a port associated. nfp_nets, however, only represent
a device port in legacy mode, where they are considered the
MAC port. In switchdev mode they are just the CPU's side of
the PCIe link.
By definition TC offloads only apply to device ports. Don't
set the flag on vNICs without a port (i.e. in switchdev mode).

First patch in this series fixes applying the relocation to immediate
load instructions in the NFP JIT.
The remaining patches come from Quentin. Small addition to libbpf
makes sure it recognizes all standard section names. Makefile in
bpftool/Documentation is improved to explicitly check for rst2man
being installed on the system, otherwise we risk installing empty
files. Man page for bpftool-map is corrected to include program
as a potential value for map of programs.
Last two patches are slightly longer, those update bash completions to
include this release cycle's additions from Roman. Maybe the use of
Fixes tags is slightly frivolous there, but having bash completions
which don't cover all commands and options could be disruptive to work
flow for users.

It seems that the type guessing feature for libbpf, based on the name of
the ELF section the program is located in, was inspired from
samples/bpf/prog_load.c, which was not used by any sample for loading
programs of certain types such as TC actions and classifiers, or
LWT-related types. As a consequence, libbpf is not able to guess the
type of such programs and to load them automatically if type is not
provided to the `bpf_load_prog()` function.
Add ELF section names associated to those eBPF program types so that
they can be loaded with e.g. bpftool as well.

It was discovered that simple program which indefinitely sends 200b UDP
packets and runs on TI AM574x SoC (SMP) under RT Kernel triggers network
watchdog timeout in TI CPSW driver (<6 hours run). The network watchdog
timeout is triggered due to race between cpsw_ndo_start_xmit() and
cpsw_tx_handler() [NAPI]
cpsw_ndo_start_xmit()
if (unlikely(!cpdma_check_free_tx_desc(txch))) {
txq = netdev_get_tx_queue(ndev, q_idx);
netif_tx_stop_queue(txq);
^^ as per [1] barier has to be used after set_bit() otherwise new value
might not be visible to other cpus
}
cpsw_tx_handler()
if (unlikely(netif_tx_queue_stopped(txq)))
netif_tx_wake_queue(txq);
and when it happens ndev TX queue became disabled forever while driver's HW
TX queue is empty.
Fix this, by adding smp_mb__after_atomic() after netif_tx_stop_queue()
calls and double check for free TX descriptors after stopping ndev TX queue
- if there are free TX descriptors wake up ndev TX queue.

AF_RXRPC is incorrectly sending back to the server any abort it receives
for a client connection. This is due to the final-ACK offload to the
connection event processor patch. The abort code is copied into the
last-call information on the connection channel and then the event
processor is set.
Instead, the following should be done:
(1) In the case of a final-ACK for a successful call, the ACK should be
scheduled as before.
(2) In the case of a locally generated ABORT, the ABORT details should be
cached for sending in response to further packets related to that
call and no further action scheduled at call disconnect time.
(3) In the case of an ACK received from the peer, the call should be
considered dead, no ABORT should be transmitted at this time. In
response to further non-ABORT packets from the peer relating to this
call, an RX_USER_ABORT ABORT should be transmitted.
(4) In the case of a call killed due to network error, an RX_USER_ABORT
ABORT should be cached for transmission in response to further
packets, but no ABORT should be sent at this time.

Two cases to be addressed here,
In the development process of test_bpf.c unit testing will be done by

Commit 'a6a252e64914 ("blk-mq-sched: decide how to handle flush rq via
RQF_FLUSH_SEQ")' makes all non-flush re-prepared requests for a device
be re-inserted into the active I/O scheduler for that device. As a
consequence, I/O schedulers may get the same request inserted again,
even several times, without a finish_request invoked on that request
before each re-insertion.
This fact is the cause of the failure reported in [1]. For an I/O
scheduler, every re-insertion of the same re-prepared request is
equivalent to the insertion of a new request. For schedulers like
mq-deadline or kyber, this fact causes no harm. In contrast, it
confuses a stateful scheduler like BFQ, which keeps state for an I/O
request, until the finish_request hook is invoked on the request. In
particular, BFQ may get stuck, waiting forever for the number of
request dispatches, of the same request, to be balanced by an equal
number of request completions (while there will be one completion for
that request). In this state, BFQ may refuse to serve I/O requests
from other bfq_queues. The hang reported in [1] then follows.
However, the above re-prepared requests undergo a requeue, thus the
requeue_request hook of the active elevator is invoked for these
requests, if set. This commit then addresses the above issue by
properly implementing the hook requeue_request in BFQ.

back-end device sdm has already attached a cache_set with ID
f67ebe1f-f8bc-4d73-bfe5-9dc88607f119, then try to attach with

[root]# cd /sys/block/sdm/bcache
[root]# echo 5ccd0a63-148e-48b8-afa2-aca9cbd6279f > attach
-bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument
After that, execute a command to modify the label of bcache
device:
[root]# echo data_disk1 > label
Then we reboot the system, when the system power on, the back-end
device can not attach to cache_set, a messages show in the log:
Feb 5 12:05:52 ceph152 kernel: [922385.508498] bcache:
bch_cached_dev_attach() couldn't find uuid for sdm in set
In sysfs_attach(), dc->sb.set_uuid was assigned to the value
which input through sysfs, no matter whether it is success
or not in bch_cached_dev_attach(). For example, If the back-end
device has already attached to an cache set, bch_cached_dev_attach()
would fail, but dc->sb.set_uuid was changed. Then modify the
label of bcache device, it will call bch_write_bdev_super(),
which would write the dc->sb.set_uuid to the super block, so we
record a wrong cache set ID in the super block, after the system
reboot, the cache set couldn't find the uuid of the back-end
device, so the bcache device couldn't exist and use any more.
In this patch, we don't assigned cache set ID to dc->sb.set_uuid
in sysfs_attach() directly, but input it into bch_cached_dev_attach(),
and assigned dc->sb.set_uuid to the cache set ID after the back-end
device attached to the cache set successful.

I attach a back-end device to a cache set, and the cache set is not
registered yet, this back-end device did not attach successfully, and no
error returned:
[root]# echo 87859280-fec6-4bcc-20df7ca8f86b > /sys/block/sde/bcache/attach
[root]#
In sysfs_attach(), the return value "v" is initialized to "size" in
the beginning, and if no cache set exist in bch_cache_sets, the "v" value
would not change any more, and return to sysfs, sysfs regard it as success
since the "size" is a positive number.
This patch fixes this issue by assigning "v" with "-ENOENT" in the
initialization.

dc->writeback_rate_update_seconds can be set via sysfs and its value can
be set to [1, ULONG_MAX]. It does not make sense to set such a large
value, 60 seconds is long enough value considering the default 5 seconds
works well for long time.
Because dc->writeback_rate_update is a special delayed work, it re-arms
itself inside the delayed work routine update_writeback_rate(). When
stopping it by cancel_delayed_work_sync(), there should be a timeout to
wait and make sure the re-armed delayed work is stopped too. A small max
value of dc->writeback_rate_update_seconds is also helpful to decide a
reasonable small timeout.
This patch limits sysfs interface to set dc->writeback_rate_update_seconds
in range of [1, 60] seconds, and replaces the hand-coded number by macros.

The stack shows the register thread and allocator thread
were getting stuck when registering cache device.
I reboot the machine several times, the issue always
exsit in this machine.
I debug the code, and found the call trace as bellow:
register_bcache()
==>run_cache_set()
==>bch_journal_replay()
==>bch_btree_insert()
==>__bch_btree_map_nodes()
==>btree_insert_fn()
==>btree_split() //node need split
==>btree_check_reserve()
In btree_check_reserve(), It will check if there is enough buckets
of RESERVE_BTREE type, since allocator thread did not work yet, so
no buckets of RESERVE_BTREE type allocated, so the register thread
waits on c->btree_cache_wait, and goes to sleep.
Then the allocator thread initialized, the call trace is bellow:
bch_allocator_thread()
==>bch_prio_write()
==>bch_journal_meta()
==>bch_journal()
==>journal_wait_for_write()
In journal_wait_for_write(), It will check if journal is full by
journal_full(), but the long time random small IO writing
causes the exhaustion of journal buckets(journal.blocks_free=0),
In order to release the journal buckets,
the allocator calls btree_flush_write() to flush keys to
btree nodes, and waits on c->journal.wait until btree nodes writing
over or there has already some journal buckets space, then the
allocator thread goes to sleep. but in btree_flush_write(), since
bch_journal_replay() is not finished, so no btree nodes have journal
(condition "if (btree_current_write(b)->journal)" never satisfied),
so we got no btree node to flush, no journal bucket released,
and allocator sleep all the times.
Through the above analysis, we can see that:
1) Register thread wait for allocator thread to allocate buckets of
RESERVE_BTREE type;
2) Alloctor thread wait for register thread to replay journal, so it
can flush btree nodes and get journal bucket.
then they are all got stuck by waiting for each other.
Hua Rui provided a patch for me, by allocating some buckets of
RESERVE_BTREE type in advance, so the register thread can get bucket
when btree node splitting and no need to waiting for the allocator
thread. I tested it, it has effect, and register thread run a step
forward, but finally are still got stuck, the reason is only 8 bucket
of RESERVE_BTREE type were allocated, and in bch_journal_replay(),
after 2 btree nodes splitting, only 4 bucket of RESERVE_BTREE type left,
then btree_check_reserve() is not satisfied anymore, so it goes to sleep
again, and in the same time, alloctor thread did not flush enough btree
nodes to release a journal bucket, so they all got stuck again.
So we need to allocate more buckets of RESERVE_BTREE type in advance,
but how much is enough? By experience and test, I think it should be
as much as journal buckets. Then I modify the code as this patch,
and test in the machine, and it works.
This patch modified base on Hua Rui’s patch, and allocate more buckets
of RESERVE_BTREE type in advance to avoid register thread and allocate
thread going to wait for each other.
[patch v2] ca->sb.njournal_buckets would be 0 in the first time after
cache creation, and no journal exists, so just 8 btree buckets is OK.

Struct cache uses io_errors for two purposes,
- Error decay: when cache set error_decay is set, io_errors is used to
generate a small piece of delay when I/O error happens.
- I/O errors counter: in order to generate big enough value for error
decay, I/O errors counter value is stored by left shifting 20 bits (a.k.a
IO_ERROR_SHIFT).
In function bch_count_io_errors(), if I/O errors counter reaches cache set
error limit, bch_cache_set_error() will be called to retire the whold cache
set. But current code is problematic when checking the error limit, see the
following code piece from bch_count_io_errors(),
90 if (error) {
91 char buf[BDEVNAME_SIZE];
92 unsigned errors = atomic_add_return(1 << IO_ERROR_SHIFT,
93 &ca->io_errors);
94 errors >>= IO_ERROR_SHIFT;
95
96 if (errors < ca->set->error_limit)
97 pr_err("%s: IO error on %s, recovering",
98 bdevname(ca->bdev, buf), m);
99 else
100 bch_cache_set_error(ca->set,
101 "%s: too many IO errors %s",
102 bdevname(ca->bdev, buf), m);
103 }
At line 94, errors is right shifting IO_ERROR_SHIFT bits, now it is real
errors counter to compare at line 96. But ca->set->error_limit is initia-
lized with an amplified value in bch_cache_set_alloc(),
1545 c->error_limit = 8 << IO_ERROR_SHIFT;
It means by default, in bch_count_io_errors(), before 8<<20 errors happened
bch_cache_set_error() won't be called to retire the problematic cache
device. If the average request size is 64KB, it means bcache won't handle
failed device until 512GB data is requested. This is too large to be an I/O
threashold. So I believe the correct error limit should be much less.
This patch sets default cache set error limit to 8, then in
bch_count_io_errors() when errors counter reaches 8 (if it is default
value), function bch_cache_set_error() will be called to retire the whole
cache set. This patch also removes bits shifting when store or show
io_error_limit value via sysfs interface.
Nowadays most of SSDs handle internal flash failure automatically by LBA
address re-indirect mapping. If an I/O error can be observed by upper layer
code, it will be a notable error because that SSD can not re-indirect
map the problematic LBA address to an available flash block. This situation
indicates the whole SSD will be failed very soon. Therefore setting 8 as
the default io error limit value makes sense, it is enough for most of
cache devices.

Kernel thread routine bch_writeback_thread() has the following code block,
447 down_write(&dc->writeback_lock);
448~450 if (check conditions) {
451 up_write(&dc->writeback_lock);
452 set_current_state(TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE);
453
454 if (kthread_should_stop())
455 return 0;
456
457 schedule();
458 continue;
459 }
If condition check is true, its task state is set to TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE
and call schedule() to wait for others to wake up it.
There are 2 issues in current code,
1, Task state is set to TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE after the condition checks, if
another process changes the condition and call wake_up_process(dc->
writeback_thread), then at line 452 task state is set back to
TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE, the writeback kernel thread will lose a chance to be
waken up.
2, At line 454 if kthread_should_stop() is true, writeback kernel thread
will return to kernel/kthread.c:kthread() with TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE and
call do_exit(). It is not good to enter do_exit() with task state
TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE, in following code path might_sleep() is called and a
warning message is reported by __might_sleep(): "WARNING: do not call
blocking ops when !TASK_RUNNING; state=1 set at [xxxx]".
For the first issue, task state should be set before condition checks.
Ineed because dc->writeback_lock is required when modifying all the
conditions, calling set_current_state() inside code block where dc->
writeback_lock is hold is safe. But this is quite implicit, so I still move
set_current_state() before all the condition checks.
For the second issue, frankley speaking it does not hurt when kernel thread
exits with TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE state, but this warning message scares users,
makes them feel there might be something risky with bcache and hurt their
data. Setting task state to TASK_RUNNING before returning fixes this
problem.
In alloc.c:allocator_wait(), there is also a similar issue, and is also
fixed in this patch.
Changelog:
v3: merge two similar fixes into one patch
v2: fix the race issue in v1 patch.
v1: initial buggy fix.

The kernel work consumed a lot of CPU, and I found they are running journal
work, The journal is reclaiming source and flush btree node with surprising
frequency.
Through further analysis, we found that in btree_flush_write(), we try to
get a btree node with the smallest fifo idex to flush by traverse all the
btree nodein c->bucket_hash, after we getting it, since no locker protects
it, this btree node may have been written to cache device by other works,
and if this occurred, we retry to traverse in c->bucket_hash and get
another btree node. When the problem occurrd, the retry times is very high,
and we consume a lot of CPU in looking for a appropriate btree node.
In this patch, we try to record 128 btree nodes with the smallest fifo idex
in heap, and pop one by one when we need to flush btree node. It greatly
reduces the time for the loop to find the appropriate BTREE node, and also
reduce the occupancy of CPU.

pre-existing style violations]

Sometimes, Journal takes up a lot of CPU, we need statistics
to know what's the journal is doing. So this patch provide
some journal statistics:
1) reclaim: how many times the journal try to reclaim resource,
usually the journal bucket or/and the pin are exhausted.
2) flush_write: how many times the journal try to flush btree node
to cache device, usually the journal bucket are exhausted.
3) retry_flush_write: how many times the journal retry to flush
the next btree node, usually the previous tree node have been
flushed by other thread.
we show these statistic by sysfs interface. Through these statistics
We can totally see the status of journal module when the CPU is too
high.

Pull RISC-V updates from Palmer Dabbelt:
"This contains the fixes we'd like to target for the 4.16 merge window.
It's not as much as I was originally hoping to do but between glibc,
the chip, and FOSDEM there just wasn't enough time to get everything
put together. As such, this merge window is essentially just going to
be small changes. This includes mostly cleanups:
- A build fix failure to the audit test cases.
RISC-V doesn't have renameat because the generic syscall ABI moved
to renameat2 by the time of our port. The syscall audit test cases
don't understand this, so I added a trivial fix. This went through
mailing list review during the 4.15 merge window, but nobody has
picked it up so I think it's best to just do this here.
- The removal of our command-line argument processing code. The
"mem_end" stuff was broken and the rest duplicated generic device
tree code. The generic code was already being called.
- Some unused/redundant code has been removed, including
__ARCH_HAVE_MMU, current_pgdir, and the initialization of
init_mm.pgd.
- SUM is disabled upon taking a trap, which means that user memory is
protected during traps taking inside copy_{to,from}_user().
- The sptbr CSR has been renamed to satp in C code. We haven't
changed the assembly code in order to maintain compatibility with
binutils 2.29, which doesn't understand the new name.
Additionally, we're adding some new features:
- Basic ftrace support, thanks to Alan Kao!
- Support for ZONE_DMA32.
This is necessary for all the normal reasons, but also to deal with
a deficiency in the Xilinx PCIe controller we're using on our
FPGA-based systems. While the ZONE_DMA32 addition should be
sufficient for most uses, it doesn't complete the fix for the
Xilinx controller.
- TLB shootdowns now only target the harts where they're necessary,
instead of applying to all harts in the system.
These patches have all been sitting on our linux-next branch for a
while now. Due to time constraints this is all I feel comfortable
submitting during the 4.16 merge window, hopefully we'll do better
next time!"

Add CONFIG_EXPOLINE to enable the use of the new -mindirect-branch= and
-mfunction_return= compiler options to create a kernel fortified against
the specte v2 attack.
With CONFIG_EXPOLINE=y all indirect branches will be issued with an
execute type instruction. For z10 or newer the EXRL instruction will
be used, for older machines the EX instruction. The typical indirect
call
basr %r14,%r1
is replaced with a PC relative call to a new thunk
brasl %r14,__s390x_indirect_jump_r1
The thunk contains the EXRL/EX instruction to the indirect branch
__s390x_indirect_jump_r1:
exrl 0,0f
j .
0: br %r1
The detour via the execute type instruction has a performance impact.
To get rid of the detour the new kernel parameter "nospectre_v2" and
"spectre_v2=[on,off,auto]" can be used. If the parameter is specified
the kernel and module code will be patched at runtime.

Some modern Ubiquiti devices contain a rebranded QCA988X rev2 with
a custom Ubiquiti vendor and device id. This patch adds support for
those devices, treating them as a QCA988X v2.

The length of DRAM dump for QCA6174 hw3.0/hw3.2 and QCA9377 hw1.1
are less than the actual value, some coredump contents are missed.
To fix it, change the length from 0x90000 to 0xa8000.

There has been a coding error in rtl8821ae since it was first introduced,
namely that an 8-bit register was read using a 16-bit read in
_rtl8821ae_dbi_read(). This error was fixed with commit 40b368af4b75
("rtlwifi: Fix alignment issues"); however, this change led to
instability in the connection. To restore stability, this change
was reverted in commit b8b8b16352cd ("rtlwifi: rtl8821ae: Fix connection
lost problem").
Unfortunately, the unaligned access causes machine checks in ARM
architecture, and we were finally forced to find the actual cause of the
problem on x86 platforms. Following a suggestion from Pkshih
<pkshih@realtek.com>, it was found that increasing the ASPM L1
latency from 0 to 7 fixed the instability. This parameter was varied to
see if a smaller value would work; however, it appears that 7 is the
safest value. A new symbol is defined for this quantity, thus it can be
easily changed if necessary.
