2024-01-21bcachefs: Prep work for variable size btree node buffersKent Overstreet18-97/+87
bcachefs btree nodes are big - typically 256k - and btree roots are pinned in memory. As we're now up to 18 btrees, we now have significant memory overhead in mostly empty btree roots. And in the future we're going to start enforcing that certain btree node boundaries exist, to solve lock contention issues - analagous to XFS's AGIs. Thus, we need to start allocating smaller btree node buffers when we can. This patch changes code that refers to the filesystem constant c->opts.btree_node_size to refer to the btree node buffer size - btree_buf_bytes() - where appropriate. When issuing discards, we may need to flush the journal if there's too many buckets that can't be discarded until a journal flush. But the heuristic was bad; we should be comparing the number of buckets that need to flushes against the number of free buckets, not the number of buckets we saw. 2024-01-21bcachefs: bch2_kthread_io_clock_wait() no longer sleeps until full amountKent Overstreet1-2/+2
Drop t he loop in bch2_kthread_io_clock_wait(): this allows the code that uses it to be woken up for other reasons, and fixes a bug where rebalance wouldn't wake up when a scan was requested. This patch replaces max(a, min(b, c)) by clamp(b, a, c) in the solo6x10 driver. This improves the readability and more importantly, for the solo6x10-p2m.c file, this reduces on my system (x86-64, gcc 13): - the preprocessed size from 121 MiB to 4.5 MiB; - the build CPU time from 46.8 s to 1.6 s; - the build memory from 2786 MiB to 98MiB. In fine, this allows this relatively simple C file to be built on a 32-bit system. No point in allocating a new mm, counting arguments and environment variables etc if we're just going to return ENOENT. This patch does expose the fact that 'do_filp_open()' that execve() uses is still unnecessarily expensive in the failure case, because it allocates the 'struct file *' early, even if the path lookup (which is heavily optimized) fails. So that remains an unnecessary cost in the "no such executable" case, but it's a separate issue. Regardless, I do not want to do _both_ a filename_lookup() and a later do_filp_open() like the origin patch by Josh Triplett did in [1]. Assorted fixes: - Fix the default 'perf top' usage on Intel hybrid systems, now it starts with a browser showing the number of samples for Efficiency (cpu_atom/cycles/P) and Performance (cpu_core/cycles/P). This behaviour is similar on ARM64, with its respective set of big.LITTLE processors. - Fix segfault on build_mem_topology() error path. - Fix 'perf mem' error on hybrid related to availability of mem event in a PMU. - Fix missing reference count gets (map, maps) in the db-export code. - Avoid recursively taking env->bpf_progs.lock in the 'perf_env' code. - Use the newly introduced maps__for_each_map() to add missing locking around iteration of 'struct map' entries. - Parse NOTE segments until the build id is found, don't stop on the first one, ELF files may have several such NOTE segments. - Remove 'egrep' usage, its deprecated, use 'grep -E' instead. - Warn first about missing libelf, not libbpf, that depends on libelf. - Use alternative to 'find ... -printf' as this isn't supported in busybox. - Address python 3.6 DeprecationWarning for string scapes. - Fix memory leak in uniq() in libsubcmd. - Fix man page formatting for 'perf lock' - Fix some spelling mistakes. perf tests: - Fail shell tests that needs some symbol in perf itself if it is stripped. These tests check if a symbol is resolved, if some hot function is indeed detected by profiling, etc. - The 'perf test sigtrap' test is currently failing on PREEMPT_RT, skip it if sleeping spinlocks are detected (using BTF) and point to the mailing list discussion about it. 2024-01-19cifs: update iface_last_update on each query-and-updateShyam Prasad N1-1/+3
iface_last_update was an unused field when it was introduced. Later, when we had periodic update of server interface list, this field was used regularly to decide when to update next. However, with the new logic of updating the interfaces, it becomes crucial that this field be updated whenever parse_server_interfaces runs successfully. This change updates this field when either the server does not support query of interfaces; so that we do not query the interfaces repeatedly. It also updates the field when the function reaches the end. 2024-01-19cifs: handle servers that still advertise multichannel after disablingShyam Prasad N2-46/+69
Some servers like Azure SMB servers always advertise multichannel capability in server capabilities list. Such servers return error STATUS_NOT_IMPLEMENTED for ioctl calls to query server interfaces, and expect clients to consider that as a sign that they do not support multichannel. We already handled this at mount time. Soon after the tree connect, we query server interfaces. And when server returned STATUS_NOT_IMPLEMENTED, we kept interface list as empty. When cifs_try_adding_channels gets called, it would not find any interfaces, so will not add channels. For the case where an active multichannel mount exists, and multichannel is disabled by such a server, this change will now allow the client to disable secondary channels on the mount. It will check the return status of query server interfaces call soon after a tree reconnect. If the return status is EOPNOTSUPP, then instead of the check to add more channels, we'll disable the secondary channels instead. For better code reuse, this change also moves the common code for disabling multichannel to a helper function. See tick_cancel_sched_timer() in kernel/time/tick-sched.c. Therefore when a CPU is brought offline and online afterwards both its idle and iowait sleeptime will be zero, causing a jump backward in total system idle and iowait sleeptime. In a similar way if a CPU is then brought offline again the total idle and iowait sleeptimes will jump forward. It looks like this behavior was introduced with commit 4b0c0f294f60 ("tick: Cleanup NOHZ per cpu data on cpu down"). This was only noticed now on s390, since we switched to generic idle time reporting with commit be76ea614460 ("s390/idle: remove arch_cpu_idle_time() and corresponding code"). Fix this by preserving the values of idle_sleeptime and iowait_sleeptime members of the per-cpu tick_sched structure on CPU hotplug. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. The headers also include platform_device.h and of.h. The result was lots of drivers relied on these implicit includes. Now the entire tree has been fixed over the last couple of cycles to explicitly include the necessary headers instead of relying on of_device.h and/or of_platform.h implicit includes, so the implicit and circular includes can finally be removed. Today, the tree connect and disconnect requests are sent on the primary channel only. However, the new multichannel logic allows the session to remain active even if one of the channels are alive. So a tree connect can now be triggered during a reconnect on any of its channels. This change changes tcon and tdis calls to pick an active channel instead of the first one. It is better to just always up the ref count and require the caller to decrement it, even for lookup. - Modify the .iterate_shared callback to not use the dcache_readdir() logic and just handle what gets displayed by that one function. This removes the need for eventfs to hijack the file->private_data from the dcache_readdir() "cursor" pointer, and makes the code a bit more sane - Use the root and instance inodes for default ownership. This sub-system may not care about the thousands of events that exist in eventfs. Allow the sub-system to specify what sub-systems of events it cares about, and only those events are exposed to this instance. - Allow the ring buffer to be broken up into bigger sub-buffers than just the architecture page size. A new tracefs file called "buffer_subbuf_size_kb" is created. The user can now specify a minimum size the sub-buffer may be in kilobytes. Note, that the implementation currently make the sub-buffer size a power of 2 pages (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ...) but the user only writes in kilobyte size, and the sub-buffer will be updated to the next size that it will can accommodate it. If the user writes in 10, it will change the size to be 4 pages on x86 (16K), as that is the next available size that can hold 10K pages. - Update the debug output when a corrupt time is detected in the ring buffer. If the ring buffer detects inconsistent timestamps, there's a debug config options that will dump the contents of the meta data of the sub-buffer that is used for debugging. Add some more information to this dump that helps with debugging. - Add more timestamp debugging checks (only triggers when the config is enabled) - Increase the trace_seq iterator to 2 page sizes. - Allow strings written into tracefs_marker to be larger. commit 66f1e6809397 ("riscv: Make XIP bootable again") restricted page offset to the sv39 page offset instead of the default sv57, which makes sense since probably the platforms that target XIP kernels do not support anything else than sv39 and we do not try to find out the largest address space supported on XIP kernels (ie set_satp_mode()). But PAGE_OFFSET_L3 is not defined for rv32, so fix the build error by restoring the previous behaviour which picks CONFIG_PAGE_OFFSET for rv32. Calling amdgpu_device_ip_resume_phase1() during shutdown leaves the HW in an active state and is an unbalanced use of the IP callbacks. Using the IP callbacks like this can lead to memory leaks, double free and imbalanced reference counters. Leaving the HW in an active state can lead to DMA accesses to memory now freed by the driver. Both is a complete no-go for driver unload so completely revert the workaround for now. This reverts commit f5c7e7797060255dbc8160734ccc5ad6183c5e04. 2024-01-18bcachefs: Replace strlcpy() with strscpy()Kees Cook1-2/+2
strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated[1]. Additionally, it returns the size of the source string, not the resulting size of the destination string. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely[2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy(). Nothing checks the return value here, so a direct replacement with strspy() is possible. 2024-01-18i2c: stm32f7: add support for stm32mp25 socAlain Volmat1-88/+126
The stm32mp25 has only a single interrupt line used for both events and errors. In order to cope with that, reorganise the error handling code so that it can be called either from the common handler (used in case of SoC having only a single IT line) and the error handler for others. The CR1 register also embeds a new FMP bit, necessary when running at Fast Mode Plus frequency. This bit should be used instead of the SYSCFG bit used on other platforms. Add a new compatible to distinguish between the SoCs and two boolean within the setup structure in order to know if the platform has a single/multiple IT lines and if the FMP bit within CR1 is available or not. The irq handling is currently split between the irq handler and the threaded irq handler. Some of the handling (such as dma related stuffs) done within the irq handler might sleep or take some time leading to issues if the kernel is built with realtime constraints. In order to fix that, perform an overall rework to perform most of the job within the threaded handler and only keep fifo access in the non threaded handler. 2024-01-18i2c: smbus: Support up to 8 SPD EEPROMsJean Delvare1-4/+4
I originally restricted i2c_register_spd() to only support systems with up to 4 memory slots, so that we can experiment with it on a limited numbers of systems. It's been more than 3 years and it seems to work just fine, so the time has come to lift this arbitrary limitation. The maximum number of memory slots which can be connected to a single I2C segment is 8, so support that many SPD EEPROMs. Any system with more than 8 memory slots would have either multiple SMBus channels or SMBus multiplexing, so it would need dedicated care. To properly handle ACK on the bus when transferring more than one message in polling mode, move the polling handling loop from s3c24xx_i2c_message_start() to s3c24xx_i2c_doxfer(). This way i2c_s3c_irq_nextbyte() is always executed till the end, properly acknowledging the IRQ bits and no recursive calls to i2c_s3c_irq_nextbyte() are made. While touching this, also fix finishing transfers in polling mode by using common code path and always waiting for the bus to become idle and disabled. To support FM+, we mainly need to turn the SMD constant into a parameter and set it accordingly. That also means we can finally fix SMD to our needs instead of bailing out. A sanity check for SMD then becomes a sanity check for 'x == 0'. After all that, activating the enable bit for FM+ is all we need to do. Tested with a Renesas Falcon board using R-Car V3U. they support I2C_CLASS_HWMON After removal of the legacy eeprom driver the only remaining I2C client device driver supporting I2C_CLASS_SPD is jc42. Because this driver also supports I2C_CLASS_HWMON, adapters don't have to declare support for I2C_CLASS_SPD if they support I2C_CLASS_HWMON. It's one step towards getting rid of I2C_CLASS_SPD mid-term. I2C_CLASS_SPD was used to expose the EEPROM content to user space, via the legacy eeprom driver. Now that this driver has been removed, we can remove I2C_CLASS_SPD support. at24 driver with explicit instantiation should be used instead.
