At the beginning in 2009 one patch [1] introduced collecting drop
counter in nf_conntrack_in() by returning -NF_DROP. Later, another
patch [2] changed the return value of tcp_packet() which now is
renamed to nf_conntrack_tcp_packet() from -NF_DROP to NF_DROP. As
we can see, that -NF_DROP should be corrected.
Similarly, there are other two points where the -NF_DROP is used.
Well, as NF_DROP is equal to 0, inverting NF_DROP makes no sense
as patch [2] said many years ago.

In my recent commit, I missed that do_replace() handlers
use copy_from_sockptr() (which I fixed), followed
by unsafe copy_from_sockptr_offset() calls.
In all functions, we can perform the @optlen validation
before even calling xt_alloc_table_info() with the following
check:
if ((u64)optlen < (u64)tmp.size + sizeof(tmp))
return -EINVAL;

by BPF after commit 20f2505fb436 ("bpf: Try to avoid kzalloc
in cgroup/{s,g}etsockopt")
setsockopt() @optlen argument should be taken into account

syzkaller started to report a warning below [0] after consuming the
commit 4654467dc7e1 ("netfilter: arptables: allow xtables-nft only
builds").
The change accidentally removed the dependency on NETFILTER_FAMILY_ARP
from IP_NF_ARPTABLES.
If NF_TABLES_ARP is not enabled on Kconfig, NETFILTER_FAMILY_ARP will
be removed and some code necessary for arptables will not be compiled.
$ grep -E "(NETFILTER_FAMILY_ARP|IP_NF_ARPTABLES|NF_TABLES_ARP)" .config
CONFIG_NETFILTER_FAMILY_ARP=y
# CONFIG_NF_TABLES_ARP is not set
CONFIG_IP_NF_ARPTABLES=y
$ make olddefconfig
$ grep -E "(NETFILTER_FAMILY_ARP|IP_NF_ARPTABLES|NF_TABLES_ARP)" .config
# CONFIG_NF_TABLES_ARP is not set
CONFIG_IP_NF_ARPTABLES=y
So, when nf_register_net_hooks() is called for arptables, it will
trigger the splat below.
Now IP_NF_ARPTABLES is only enabled by IP_NF_ARPFILTER, so let's
restore the dependency on NETFILTER_FAMILY_ARP in IP_NF_ARPFILTER.

Add hidden IP(6)_NF_IPTABLES_LEGACY symbol.
When any of the "old" builtin tables are enabled the "old" iptables
interface will be supported.
To disable the old set/getsockopt interface the existing options
for the builtin tables need to be turned off:
CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=m
CONFIG_IP_NF_FILTER is not set
CONFIG_IP_NF_NAT is not set
CONFIG_IP_NF_MANGLE is not set
CONFIG_IP_NF_RAW is not set
CONFIG_IP_NF_SECURITY is not set
Same for CONFIG_IP6_NF_ variants.
This allows to build a kernel that only supports ip(6)tables-nft
(iptables-over-nftables api).
In the future the _LEGACY symbol will become visible and the select
statements will be turned into 'depends on', but for now be on safe side
so "make oldconfig" won't break things.

Allows to build kernel that supports the arptables mangle target
via nftables' compat infra but without the arptables get/setsockopt
interface or the old arptables filter interpreter.
IOW, setting IP_NF_ARPFILTER=n will break arptables-legacy, but
arptables-nft will continue to work as long as nftables compat
support is enabled.

Let's use plain ifindex instead of net_device link. To peek into the

get device and are safe to use it or we don't get it and drop skb.

These checks assume that the caller only returns NF_DROP without
any errno embedded in the upper bits.
This is fine right now, but followup patches will start to propagate
such errors to allow kfree_skb_drop_reason() in the called functions,
those would then indicate 'errno << 8 | NF_STOLEN'.

icmp/icmp6 matches are baked into ip(6)_tables.ko.
This means that even if iptables-nft is used, a rule like
"-p icmp --icmp-type 1" will load the ip(6)tables modules.
Move them to xt_tcpdudp.ko instead to avoid this.
This will also allow to eventually add kconfig knobs to build kernels
that support iptables-nft but not iptables-legacy (old set/getsockopt

The xtables packet traverser performs an unconditional local_bh_disable(),
but the nf_tables evaluation loop does not.
Functions that are called from either xtables or nftables must assume
that they can be called in process context.
inet_twsk_deschedule_put() assumes that no softirq interrupt can occur.
If tproxy is used from nf_tables its possible that we'll deadlock
trying to aquire a lock already held in process context.
Add a small helper that takes care of this and use it.

creating new netns
Here is the stack where we allocate percpu counter block:
+-< __alloc_percpu
+-< xt_percpu_counter_alloc
+-< find_check_entry # {arp,ip,ip6}_tables.c
+-< translate_table
And it can be leaked on this code path:
+-> ip6t_register_table
+-> translate_table # allocates percpu counter block
+-> xt_register_table # fails
there is no freeing of the counter block on xt_register_table fail.
Note: xt_percpu_counter_free should be called to free it like we do in
do_replace through cleanup_entry helper (or in __ip6t_unregister_table).
Probability of hitting this error path is low AFAICS (xt_register_table
can only return ENOMEM here, as it is not replacing anything, as we are
creating new netns, and it is hard to imagine that all previous
allocations succeeded and after that one in xt_register_table failed).
But it's worth fixing even the rare leak.

iptables/nftables support responding to tcp packets with tcp resets.
The generated tcp reset packet passes through both output and postrouting
netfilter hooks, but conntrack will never see them because the generated
skb has its ->nfct pointer copied over from the packet that triggered the
reset rule.
If the reset rule is used for established connections, this
may result in the conntrack entry to be around for a very long
time (default timeout is 5 days).
One way to avoid this would be to not copy the nf_conn pointer
so that the rest packet passes through conntrack too.
Problem is that output rules might not have the same conntrack
zone setup as the prerouting ones, so its possible that the
reset skb won't find the correct entry. Generating a template
entry for the skb seems error prone as well.
Add an explicit "closing" function that switches a confirmed
conntrack entry to closed state and wire this up for tcp.
If the entry isn't confirmed, no action is needed because
the conntrack entry will never be committed to the table.

Currently netfilter's rpfilter and fib modules implicitely initialise
->flowic_uid with 0. This is normally the root UID. However, this isn't
the case in user namespaces, where user ID 0 is mapped to a different
kernel UID. By initialising ->flowic_uid with sock_net_uid(), we get
the root UID of the user namespace, thus keeping the same behaviour
whether or not we're running in a user namepspace.
Note, this is similar to commit 8bcfd0925ef1 ("ipv4: add missing

If policy-based routing using the iif selector is used, then the fib
expression fails to look up for the reverse path from the prerouting
hook because the input interface cannot be inferred. In order to support
this scenario, extend the fib expression to allow to use after the route
lookup, from the forward hook.
This patch also adds support for the input hook for usability reasons.
Since the prerouting hook cannot be used for the scenario described
above, users need two rules: one for the forward chain and another rule
for the input chain to check for the reverse path check for locally
targeted traffic.

The issue takes place in one error path of clusterip_tg_check(). When
memcmp() returns nonzero, the function simply returns the error code,
forgetting to decrease the reference count of a clusterip_config
object, which is bumped earlier by clusterip_config_find_get(). This
may incur reference count leak.
Fix this issue by decrementing the refcount of the object in specific

3) Add egress hook, from Lukas Wunner.

For historical reasons x_tables still register tables by default in the
initial namespace.
Only newly created net namespaces add the hook on demand.
This means that the init_net always pays hook cost, even if no filtering
rules are added (e.g. only used inside a single netns).
Note that the hooks are added even when 'iptables -L' is called.
This is because there is no way to tell 'iptables -A' and 'iptables -L'
apart at kernel level.
The only solution would be to register the table, but delay hook
registration until the first rule gets added (or policy gets changed).
That however means that counters are not hooked either, so 'iptables -L'
would always show 0-counters even when traffic is flowing which might be
unexpected.
This keeps table and hook registration consistent with what is already done
in non-init netns: first iptables(-save) invocation registers both table
and hooks.
This applies the same solution adopted for ebtables.
All tables register a template that contains the l3 family, the name
and a constructor function that is called when the initial table has to
be added.

iptable_x modules rely on 'struct net' to contain a pointer to the
table that should be evaluated.
In order to remove these pointers from struct net, pass them via
the 'priv' pointer in a similar fashion as nf_tables passes the
rule data.
To do that, duplicate the nf_hook_info array passed in from the
iptable_x modules, update the ops->priv pointers of the copy to
refer to the table and then change the hookfn implementations to
just pass the 'priv' argument to the traverser.
After this patch, the xt_table pointers can already be removed
from struct net.
However, changes to struct net result in re-compile of the entire
network stack, so do the removal after arptables and ip6tables
have been converted as well.

This changes how ip(6)table nat passes the ruleset/table to the
evaluation loop.
At the moment, it will fetch the table from struct net.
This change stores the table in the hook_ops 'priv' argument
instead.
This requires to duplicate the hook_ops for each netns, so
they can store the (per-net) xt_table structure.
The dupliated nat hook_ops get stored in net_generic data area.
They are free'd in the namespace exit path.
This is a pre-requisite to remove the xt_table/ruleset pointers

xtables stores the xt_table structs in the struct net. This isn't
needed anymore, the structures could be passed via the netfilter hook
'private' pointer to the hook functions, which would allow us to remove
those pointers from struct net.
As a first step, reduce the number of accesses to the
net->ipv4.ip6table_{raw,filter,...} pointers.
This allows the tables to get unregistered by name instead of having to
pass the raw address.
The xt_table structure cane looked up by name+address family instead.
This patch is useless as-is (the backends still have the raw pointer
address), but it lowers the bar to remove those.
It also allows to put the 'was table registered in the first place' check
into ip_tables.c rather than have it in each table sub module.

When I changed defrag hooks to no longer get registered by default I
intentionally made it so that registration can only be un-done by unloading
the nf_defrag_ipv4/6 module.
In hindsight this was too conservative; there is no reason to keep defrag
on while there is no feature dependency anymore.
Moreover, this won't work if user isn't allowed to remove nf_defrag module.
This adds the disable() functions for both ipv4 and ipv6 and calls them
from conntrack, TPROXY and the xtables socket module.
ipvs isn't converted here, it will behave as before this patch and
will need module removal.

Netfilter has multiple log modules:

nf_log_ipv6
nf_log_netdev
nfnetlink_log
nf_log_common
With the exception of nfnetlink_log (packet is sent to userspace for
dissection/logging), all of them log to the kernel ringbuffer.
This is the first part of a series to merge all modules except
nfnetlink_log into a single module: nf_log_syslog.
This allows to reduce code. After the series, only two log modules remain:
nfnetlink_log and nf_log_syslog. The latter provides the same

RT_TOS() only masks one of the two ECN bits. Therefore rpfilter_mt()
treats Not-ECT or ECT(1) packets in a different way than those with
ECT(0) or CE.
Reproducer:
Create two netns, connected with a veth:
$ ip netns add ns0
$ ip netns add ns1
$ ip link add name veth01 netns ns0 type veth peer name veth10 netns ns1
$ ip -netns ns0 link set dev veth01 up
$ ip -netns ns1 link set dev veth10 up
$ ip -netns ns0 address add 192.0.2.10/32 dev veth01
$ ip -netns ns1 address add 192.0.2.11/32 dev veth10
Add a route to ns1 in ns0:
$ ip -netns ns0 route add 192.0.2.11/32 dev veth01
In ns1, only packets with TOS 4 can be routed to ns0:
$ ip -netns ns1 route add 192.0.2.10/32 tos 4 dev veth10
Ping from ns0 to ns1 works regardless of the ECN bits, as long as TOS
is 4:
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 4 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, Not-ECT
... 0% packet loss ...
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 5 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, ECT(1)
... 0% packet loss ...
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 6 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, ECT(0)
... 0% packet loss ...
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 7 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, CE
... 0% packet loss ...
Now use iptable's rpfilter module in ns1:
$ ip netns exec ns1 iptables-legacy -t raw -A PREROUTING -m rpfilter --invert -j DROP
Not-ECT and ECT(1) packets still pass:
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 4 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, Not-ECT
... 0% packet loss ...
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 5 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, ECT(1)
... 0% packet loss ...
But ECT(0) and ECN packets are dropped:
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 6 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, ECT(0)
... 100% packet loss ...
$ ip netns exec ns0 ping -Q 7 192.0.2.11 # TOS 4, CE
... 100% packet loss ...
After this patch, rpfilter doesn't drop ECT(0) and CE packets anymore.

When running concurrent iptables rules replacement with data, the per CPU
sequence count is checked after the assignment of the new information.
The sequence count is used to synchronize with the packet path without the
use of any explicit locking. If there are any packets in the packet path using
the table information, the sequence count is incremented to an odd value and
is incremented to an even after the packet process completion.
The new table value assignment is followed by a write memory barrier so every
CPU should see the latest value. If the packet path has started with the old
table information, the sequence counter will be odd and the iptables
replacement will wait till the sequence count is even prior to freeing the
old table info.
However, this assumes that the new table information assignment and the memory
barrier is actually executed prior to the counter check in the replacement
thread. If CPU decides to execute the assignment later as there is no user of
the table information prior to the sequence check, the packet path in another
CPU may use the old table information. The replacement thread would then free
the table information under it leading to a use after free in the packet
processing context-

Enhance validation to support for reject from inet ingress chains.
Note that, reject from inet ingress and netdev ingress differ.
Reject packets from inet ingress are sent through ip_local_out() since

the IP layer, so the reject packet is sent through dev_queue_xmit().
Therefore, reject packets from netdev ingress do not follow the classic
IP output and postrouting paths.

If netfilter changes the packet mark when mangling, the packet is
rerouted using the route_me_harder set of functions. Prior to this
commit, there's one big difference between route_me_harder and the
ordinary initial routing functions, described in the comment above
__ip_queue_xmit():
/* Note: skb->sk can be different from sk, in case of tunnels */
int __ip_queue_xmit(struct sock *sk, struct sk_buff *skb, struct flowi *fl,
That function goes on to correctly make use of sk->sk_bound_dev_if,
rather than skb->sk->sk_bound_dev_if. And indeed the comment is true: a
tunnel will receive a packet in ndo_start_xmit with an initial skb->sk.
It will make some transformations to that packet, and then it will send
the encapsulated packet out of a *new* socket. That new socket will
basically always have a different sk_bound_dev_if (otherwise there'd be
a routing loop). So for the purposes of routing the encapsulated packet,
the routing information as it pertains to the socket should come from
that socket's sk, rather than the packet's original skb->sk. For that
reason __ip_queue_xmit() and related functions all do the right thing.
One might argue that all tunnels should just call skb_orphan(skb) before
transmitting the encapsulated packet into the new socket. But tunnels do
*not* do this -- and this is wisely avoided in skb_scrub_packet() too --
because features like TSQ rely on skb->destructor() being called when
that buffer space is truely available again. Calling skb_orphan(skb) too
early would result in buffers filling up unnecessarily and accounting
info being all wrong. Instead, additional routing must take into account
the new sk, just as __ip_queue_xmit() notes.
So, this commit addresses the problem by fishing the correct sk out of
state->sk -- it's already set properly in the call to nf_hook() in
__ip_local_out(), which receives the sk as part of its normal
functionality. So we make sure to plumb state->sk through the various
route_me_harder functions, and then make correct use of it following the
example of __ip_queue_xmit().

REJECT statement can be only used in INPUT, FORWARD and OUTPUT
chains. This patch adds support of REJECT, both icmp and tcp
reset, at PREROUTING stage.
The need for this patch comes from the requirement of some
forwarding devices to reject traffic before the natting and
routing decisions.
The main use case is to be able to send a graceful termination
to legitimate clients that, under any circumstances, the NATed
endpoints are not available. This option allows clients to
decide either to perform a reconnection or manage the error in
their side, instead of just dropping the connection and let
them die due to timeout.
It is supported ipv4, ipv6 and inet families for nft
infrastructure.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]

We get crash when the targets checkentry function tries to make
use of the network namespace pointer for arptables.
When the net pointer got added back in 2010, only ip/ip6/ebtables were
changed to initialize it, so arptables has this set to NULL.
This isn't a problem for normal arptables because no existing
arptables target has a checkentry function that makes use of par->net.
However, direct users of the setsockopt interface can provide any
target they want as long as its registered for ARP or UNPSEC protocols.

This patch adds the dataplane hardware offload to the flowtable
infrastructure. Three new flags represent the hardware state of this
flow:
* FLOW_OFFLOAD_HW: This flow entry resides in the hardware.
* FLOW_OFFLOAD_HW_DYING: This flow entry has been scheduled to be remove
from hardware. This might be triggered by either packet path (via TCP
RST/FIN packet) or via aging.
* FLOW_OFFLOAD_HW_DEAD: This flow entry has been already removed from
the hardware, the software garbage collector can remove it from the
software flowtable.
This patch supports for:
* IPv4 only.
* Aging via FLOW_CLS_STATS, no packet and byte counter synchronization
at this stage.
This patch also adds the action callback that specifies how to convert
the flow entry into the flow_rule object that is passed to the driver.

commit 174e23810cd31
("sk_buff: drop all skb extensions on free and skb scrubbing") made napi
recycle always drop skb extensions. The additional skb_ext_del() that is
performed via nf_reset on napi skb recycle is not needed anymore.
Most nf_reset() calls in the stack are there so queued skb won't block
'rmmod nf_conntrack' indefinitely.
This removes the skb_ext_del from nf_reset, and renames it to a more
fitting nf_reset_ct().
In a few selected places, add a call to skb_ext_reset to make sure that
no active extensions remain.
I am submitting this for "net", because we're still early in the release
cycle. The patch applies to net-next too, but I think the rename causes
needless divergence between those trees.

In 9fb9cbb1082d ("[NETFILTER]: Add nf_conntrack subsystem.") the new
generic nf_conntrack was introduced, and it came to supersede the old
ip_conntrack.
This change updates (some) of the obsolete comments referring to old
file/function names of the ip_conntrack mechanism, as well as removes a
few self-referencing comments that we shouldn't maintain anymore.
I did not update any comments referring to historical actions (e.g,
comments like "this file was derived from ..." were left untouched, even
if the referenced file is no longer here).

When conntracks change during a dialog, SDP messages may be sent from
different conntracks to establish expects with identical tuples. In this
case expects conflict may be detected for the 2nd SDP message and end up
with a process failure.
The fixing here is to reuse an existing expect who has the same tuple for a
different conntrack if any.
Here are two scenarios for the case.
1)
SERVER CPE
| INVITE SDP |
5060 |<----------------------|5060
| 100 Trying |
5060 |---------------------->|5060
| 183 SDP |
5060 |---------------------->|5060 ===> Conntrack 1
| PRACK |
50601 |<----------------------|5060
| 200 OK (PRACK) |
50601 |---------------------->|5060
| 200 OK (INVITE) |
5060 |---------------------->|5060
| ACK |
50601 |<----------------------|5060
| |
|<--- RTP stream ------>|
| |
| INVITE SDP (t38) |
50601 |---------------------->|5060 ===> Conntrack 2
With a certain configuration in the CPE, SIP messages "183 with SDP" and
"re-INVITE with SDP t38" will go through the sip helper to create
expects for RTP and RTCP.
It is okay to create RTP and RTCP expects for "183", whose master
connection source port is 5060, and destination port is 5060.
In the "183" message, port in Contact header changes to 50601 (from the
original 5060). So the following requests e.g. PRACK and ACK are sent to
port 50601. It is a different conntrack (let call Conntrack 2) from the
original INVITE (let call Conntrack 1) due to the port difference.
In this example, after the call is established, there is RTP stream but no
RTCP stream for Conntrack 1, so the RTP expect created upon "183" is
cleared, and RTCP expect created for Conntrack 1 retains.
When "re-INVITE with SDP t38" arrives to create RTP&RTCP expects, current
ALG implementation will call nf_ct_expect_related() for RTP and RTCP. The
expects tuples are identical to those for Conntrack 1. RTP expect for
Conntrack 2 succeeds in creation as the one for Conntrack 1 has been
removed. RTCP expect for Conntrack 2 fails in creation because it has
idential tuples and 'conflict' with the one retained for Conntrack 1. And
then result in a failure in processing of the re-INVITE.
2)
SERVER A CPE
| REGISTER |
5060 |<------------------| 5060 ==> CT1
| 200 |
5060 |------------------>| 5060
| |
| INVITE SDP(1) |

| 300(multi choice) |
5060 |------------------>| 5060 SERVER B
| ACK |
5060 |<------------------| 5060
| INVITE SDP(2) |
5060 |-------------------->| 5060 ==> CT2
| 100 |
5060 |<--------------------| 5060
| 200(contact changes)|
5060 |<--------------------| 5060

5060 |-------------------->| 50601 ==> CT3
| |
|<--- RTP stream ---->|
| |
| BYE |
5060 |<--------------------| 50601
| 200 |
5060 |-------------------->| 50601
| INVITE SDP(3) |
5060 |<------------------| 5060 ==> CT1
CPE sends an INVITE request(1) to Server A, and creates a RTP&RTCP expect
pair for this Conntrack 1 (CT1). Server A responds 300 to redirect to
Server B. The RTP&RTCP expect pairs created on CT1 are removed upon 300
response.
CPE sends the INVITE request(2) to Server B, and creates an expect pair
for the new conntrack (due to destination address difference), let call
CT2. Server B changes the port to 50601 in 200 OK response, and the
following requests ACK and BYE from CPE are sent to 50601. The call is
established. There is RTP stream and no RTCP stream. So RTP expect is
removed and RTCP expect for CT2 retains.
As BYE request is sent from port 50601, it is another conntrack, let call
CT3, different from CT2 due to the port difference. So the BYE request will
not remove the RTCP expect for CT2.
Then another outgoing call is made, with the same RTP port being used (not
definitely but possibly). CPE firstly sends the INVITE request(3) to Server
A, and tries to create a RTP&RTCP expect pairs for this CT1. In current ALG
implementation, the RTCP expect for CT1 fails in creation because it
'conflicts' with the residual one for CT2. As a result the INVITE request
fails to send.

some use their own peculiar logic to split sections.
Convert everything to ReST without affecting too much

The conversion is actually:
- add blank lines and identation in order to identify paragraphs;
- fix tables markups;
- add some lists markups;
- mark literal blocks;
- adjust title markups.

NFTA_FIB_F_PRESENT flag was not always honored since eval functions did
not call nft_fib_store_result in all cases.
Given that in all callsites there is a struct net_device pointer
available which holds the interface data to be stored in destination
register, simplify nft_fib_store_result() to just accept that pointer
instead of the nft_pktinfo pointer and interface index. This also
allows to drop the index to interface lookup previously needed to get
the name associated with given index.

Also changes:
ret = nf_nat_ipv4_fn(priv, skb, state);
if (ret != NF_DROP && ret != NF_STOLEN &&
into
if (ret != NF_ACCEPT)
return ret;
everywhere.
The nat hooks never should return anything other than
ACCEPT or DROP (and the latter only in rare error cases).
The original code uses multi-line ANDing including assignment-in-if:
if (ret != NF_DROP && ret != NF_STOLEN &&
!(IPCB(skb)->flags & IPSKB_XFRM_TRANSFORMED) &&
(ct = nf_ct_get(skb, &ctinfo)) != NULL) {
I removed this while moving, breaking those in separate conditionals
and moving the assignments into extra lines.
checkpatch still generates some warnings:
1. Overly long lines (of moved code).
Breaking them is even more ugly. so I kept this as-is.
2. use of extern function declarations in a .c file.
This is necessary evil, we must call
nf_nat_l3proto_register() from the nat core now.
All l3proto related functions are removed later in this series,
those prototypes are then removed as well.
v2: keep empty nf_nat_ipv6_csum_update stub for CONFIG_IPV6=n case.
v3: remove IS_ENABLED(NF_NAT_IPV4/6) tests, NF_NAT_IPVx toggles
are removed here.

The netfilter conflicts were rather simple overlapping
changes.
However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.
On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks. Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.
What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU. I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to
implement the race fix slightly differently.

Some protocols have other means to verify the payload integrity
(AH, ESP, SCTP) while others are incompatible with nf_ip(6)_checksum
implementation because checksum is either optional or might be
partial (UDPLITE, DCCP, GRE). Because nf_ip(6)_checksum was used
to validate the packets, ip(6)tables REJECT rules were not capable
to generate ICMP(v6) errors for the protocols mentioned above.
This commit also fixes the incorrect pseudo-header protocol used
for IPv4 packets that carry other transport protocols than TCP or
UDP (pseudo-header used protocol 0 iso the proper value).

Sander Eikelenboom bisected a NAT related regression down
to the l4proto->manip_pkt indirection removal.
I forgot that ICMP(v6) errors (e.g. PKTTOOBIG) can be set as related
to the existing conntrack entry.
Therefore, when passing the skb to nf_nat_ipv4/6_manip_pkt(), that
ended up calling the wrong l4 manip function, as tuple->dst.protonum
is the original flows l4 protocol (TCP, UDP, etc).
Set the dst protocol field to ICMP(v6), we already have a private copy
of the tuple due to the inversion of src/dst.

The generic ASN.1 decoder infrastructure doesn't guarantee that callbacks
will get as much data as they expect; callbacks have to check the `datalen`
parameter before looking at `data`. Make sure that snmp_version() and
snmp_helper() don't read/write beyond the end of the packet data.
(Also move the assignment to `pdata` down below the check to make it clear
that it isn't necessarily a pointer we can use before the `datalen` check.)

When network namespace is destroyed, cleanup_net() is called.
cleanup_net() holds pernet_ops_rwsem then calls each ->exit callback.
So that clusterip_tg_destroy() is called by cleanup_net().
And clusterip_tg_destroy() calls unregister_netdevice_notifier().
But both cleanup_net() and clusterip_tg_destroy() hold same
lock(pernet_ops_rwsem). hence deadlock occurrs.
After this patch, only 1 notifier is registered when module is inserted.
And all of configs are added to per-net list.
test commands:
%ip netns add vm1
%ip netns exec vm1 bash
%ip link set lo up
%iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -i lo -d 192.168.0.5 --dport 80 \
-j CLUSTERIP --new --hashmode sourceip \

This removes the (now empty) nf_nat_l4proto struct, all its instances
and all the no longer needed runtime (un)register functionality.
nf_nat_need_gre() can be axed as well: the module that calls it (to
load the no-longer-existing nat_gre module) also calls other nat core
functions. GRE nat is now always available if kernel is built with it.

This removes the last l4proto indirection, the two callers, the l3proto
packet mangling helpers for ipv4 and ipv6, now call the
nf_nat_l4proto_manip_pkt() helper.
nf_nat_proto_{dccp,tcp,sctp,gre,icmp,icmpv6} are left behind, even though
they contain no functionality anymore to not clutter this patch.
Next patch will remove the empty files and the nf_nat_l4proto
struct.
nf_nat_proto_udp.c is renamed to nf_nat_proto.c, as it now contains the
other nat manip functionality as well, not just udp and udplite.

all protocols did set this to nf_nat_l4proto_nlattr_to_range, so
just call it directly.
The important difference is that we'll now also call it for
protocols that we don't support (i.e., nf_nat_proto_unknown did
not provide .nlattr_to_range).
However, there should be no harm, even icmp provided this callback.
If we don't implement a specific l4nat for this, nothing would make
use of this information, so adding a big switch/case construct listing
all supported l4protocols seems a bit pointless.
This change leaves a single function pointer in the l4proto struct.

Historically this was net_random() based, and was then converted to
a hash based algorithm (private boot seed + hash of endpoint addresses)
due to concerns of leaking net_random() bits.
RANDOM_FULLY mode was added later to avoid problems with hash
based mode (see commit 34ce324019e76,
"netfilter: nf_nat: add full port randomization support" for details).
Just make prandom_u32() the default search starting point and get rid of
->secure_port() altogether.

Now that call_rcu()'s callback is not invoked until after bh-disable
regions of code have completed (in addition to explicitly marked
RCU read-side critical sections), call_rcu() can be used in place
of call_rcu_bh(). Similarly, rcu_barrier() can be used in place of
rcu_barrier_bh() and synchronize_rcu() in place of synchronize_rcu_bh().
This commit therefore makes these changes.

There is a reference counter to ensure that masquerade modules register
notifiers only once. However, the existing reference counter approach is
not safe, test commands are:
while :
do
modprobe ip6t_MASQUERADE &
modprobe nft_masq_ipv6 &
modprobe -rv ip6t_MASQUERADE &
modprobe -rv nft_masq_ipv6 &
done
numbers below represent the reference counter.
--------------------------------------------------------
CPU0 CPU1 CPU2 CPU3 CPU4
[insmod] [insmod] [rmmod] [rmmod] [insmod]
--------------------------------------------------------
0->1
register 1->2
returns 2->1
returns 1->0
0->1
register <--
unregister
--------------------------------------------------------
The unregistation of CPU3 should be processed before the
registration of CPU4.
In order to fix this, use a mutex instead of reference counter.

And unlike other nat helper modules, the nf_nat_snmp_basic can be

helper name is "snmp_trap" so that alias name will be
"nfct-helper-snmp_trap" by MODULE_ALIAS_NFCT_HELPER(snmp_trap)

Florian Westphal.
15) Remove ->new() interface from layer 4 protocol trackers. Place
them in the ->packet() interface. From Florian.
16) Place conntrack ->error() handling in the ->packet() interface.
Patches from Florian Westphal.
17) Remove unused parameter in the pernet initialization path,
also from Florian.
18) Remove additional parameter to specify layer 3 protocol when
looking up for protocol tracker. From Florian.
19) Shrink array of layer 4 protocol trackers, from Florian.
20) Check for linear skb only once from the ALG NAT mangling
codebase, from Taehee Yoo.
21) Use rhashtable_walk_enter() instead of deprecated
rhashtable_walk_init(), also from Taehee.
22) No need to flush all conntracks when only one single address
is gone, from Tan Hu.
23) Remove redundant check for NAT flags in flowtable code, from
Taehee Yoo.
24) Use rhashtable_lookup() instead of rhashtable_lookup_fast()
from netfilter codebase, since rcu read lock side is already
assumed in this path.

deleted on device
We configured iptables as below, which only allowed incoming data on
established connections:
iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
iptables -t mangle -P PREROUTING DROP
When deleting a secondary address, current masquerade implements would
flush all conntracks on this device. All the established connections on
primary address also be deleted, then subsequent incoming data on the
connections would be dropped wrongly because it was identified as NEW
connection.
So when an address was delete, it should only flush connections related
with the address.

22) A couple of patches to simplify and refactor nf_osf code to prepare
for nft_osf support.
23) Break evaluation on missing socket, from Mate Eckl.
24) Allow to match socket mark from nft_socket, from Mate Eckl.
25) Remove dependency on nf_defrag_ipv6, now that IPv6 tracker is
built-in into nf_conntrack. From Florian Westphal.

This unifies ipv4 and ipv6 protocol trackers and removes the l3proto
abstraction.
This gets rid of all l3proto indirect calls and the need to do
a lookup on the function to call for l3 demux.
It increases module size by only a small amount (12kbyte), so this reduces
size because nf_conntrack.ko is useless without either nf_conntrack_ipv4
or nf_conntrack_ipv6 module.

Not needed, we can have the l4trackers fetch it themselvs.

Handle it in the core instead.
ipv6_skip_exthdr() is built-in even if ipv6 is a module, i.e. this
doesn't create an ipv6 dependency.

Its simpler to just handle it directly in nf_ct_invert_tuple().
Also gets rid of need to pass l3proto pointer to resolve_conntrack().

handle everything from ctnetlink directly.
After all these years we still only support ipv4 and ipv6, so it
seems reasonable to remove l3 protocol tracker support and instead
handle ipv4/ipv6 from a common, always builtin inet tracker.
Step 1: Get rid of all the l3proto->func() calls.
Start with ctnetlink, then move on to packet-path ones.

This patch fixes a silent out-of-bound read possibility that was present
because of the misuse of this function.
Mostly it was called with a struct udphdr *hp which had only the udphdr
part linearized by the skb_header_pointer, however
nf_tproxy_get_sock_v{4,6} uses it as a tcphdr pointer, so some reads for
tcp specific attributes may be invalid.

nft_compat relies on xt_request_find_match to increment
refcount of the module that provides the match/target.
The (builtin) icmp matches did't set the module owner so it
was possible to rmmod ip(6)tables while icmp extensions were still in use.

Netfilter assumes that if the socket is present in the skb, then
it can be used because that reference is cleaned up while the skb
is crossing netns.
We want to change that to preserve the socket reference in a future
patch, so this is a preparation updating netfilter to check if the
socket netns matches before use it.
