2014-10-02kbuild: remove obj-n and lib-n handlingMasahiro Yamada1-1/+1
Kconfig never defines CONFIG_* as 'n'. Now obj-n is only used in firmware/Makefile and it can be replaced with obj-. No makefile uses lib-n. Let's rip off obj-n and lib-n. 2014-07-09firmware: Create directories for external firmwareMichal Marek1-0/+6
Commit 5180d5f4 ("firmware: Simplify directory creation") broke including firmware specified in CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE: MK_FW firmware/amd-ucode/microcode_amd.bin.gen.S /bin/sh: firmware/amd-ucode/microcode_amd.bin.gen.S: No such file or directory ... firmware/Makefile:185: recipe for target 'firmware/amd-ucode/microcode_amd.bin.gen.S' failed It works with O= builds, because the directory is created by Makefile.build. 2014-05-14firmware: Simplify directory creationMichal Marek1-25/+5
When building the firmware blobs, use a simple loop to create directories in $(objtree), like in Makefile.build. This simplifies the rules and also makes it possible to set $(objtree) to '.' later. Before this change, a dependency on $(objtree)/<dir> would be satisfied by <dir> in $(srctree). When installing the firmware blobs, call mkdir like in Makefile.modinst. Commit b8e24bfabb03 ('emi62: use request_firmware()') made emi62/bitstream.HEX a copy of emi26/bitstream.HEX. Re-do the conversion from drivers/usb/misc/emi62_fw_{m,s}.h (these headers contained the same bitstream but different firmware). Pull networking changes from David Miller: 1) GRE now works over ipv6, from Dmitry Kozlov. 2) Make SCTP more network namespace aware, from Eric Biederman. 3) TEAM driver now works with non-ethernet devices, from Jiri Pirko. 4) Make openvswitch network namespace aware, from Pravin B Shelar. 5) IPV6 NAT implementation, from Patrick McHardy. 6) Server side support for TCP Fast Open, from Jerry Chu and others. 7) Packet BPF filter supports MOD and XOR, from Eric Dumazet and Daniel Borkmann. 8) Increate the loopback default MTU to 64K, from Eric Dumazet. 9) Use a per-task rather than per-socket page fragment allocator for outgoing networking traffic. This benefits processes that have very many mostly idle sockets, which is quite common. From Eric Dumazet. 10) Use up to 32K for page fragment allocations, with fallbacks to smaller sizes when higher order page allocations fail. Benefits are a) less segments for driver to process b) less calls to page allocator c) less waste of space. From Eric Dumazet. 11) Allow GRO to be used on GRE tunnels, from Eric Dumazet. 12) VXLAN device driver, one way to handle VLAN issues such as the limitation of 4096 VLAN IDs yet still have some level of isolation. From Stephen Hemminger. 13) As usual there is a large boatload of driver changes, with the scale perhaps tilted towards the wireless side this time around. Fix up various fairly trivial conflicts, mostly caused by the user namespace changes. * git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next: (1012 commits) hyperv: Add buffer for extended info after the RNDIS response message. hyperv: Report actual status in receive completion packet hyperv: Remove extra allocated space for recv_pkt_list elements hyperv: Fix page buffer handling in rndis_filter_send_request() hyperv: Fix the missing return value in rndis_filter_set_packet_filter() hyperv: Fix the max_xfer_size in RNDIS initialization vxlan: put UDP socket in correct namespace vxlan: Depend on CONFIG_INET sfc: Fix the reported priorities of different filter types sfc: Remove EFX_FILTER_FLAG_RX_OVERRIDE_IP sfc: Fix loopback self-test with separate_tx_channels=1 sfc: Fix MCDI structure field lookup sfc: Add parentheses around use of bitfield macro arguments sfc: Fix null function pointer in efx_sriov_channel_type vxlan: virtual extensible lan igmp: export symbol ip_mc_leave_group netlink: add attributes to fdb interface tg3: unconditionally select HWMON support when tg3 is enabled. 2011-07-03isci: fix oem parameter initialization and mode detectionDan Williams1-14/+14
1/ Since commit 858d4aa7 "isci: Move firmware loading to per PCI device" we have been silently falling back to built-in defaults for the parameter settings by skipping the call to scic_oem_parameters_set(). 2/ The afe parameters from the firmware were not being honored 3/ The latest oem parameter definition flips the mode_type values which are now 0: for APC 1: for MPC. For APC we need to make sure all the phys default to the same address otherwise strict_wide_ports will cause duplicate domains. 4/ Fix up the driver announcement to indicate the source of the parameters. 5/ Fix up the sas addresses to be unique per controller (in the fallback case) Signed-off-by: Dave Jiang <dave.jiang@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com>

2010-10-26ihex: add support for CS:IP/EIP recordsMark Brown1-3/+14
ihex firmwares can include a jump address for starting execution. Add a -j option which will cause this to be written into the generated file as a record with address zero and data consisting of the address to jump to, allowing drivers to make use of this information. This format is chosen because it most closely follows the original ihex format, though it may make more sense to write a record with length zero and the address stored as the address. The records are not omitted by default since our ihex format does not include record type information and so including additional records may lead to confusion. Value of zero was used to disable the fairness mechanism. Though the code (driver and FW) allowed changing the value at run time, it did not allow to do that if the mechanism was disabled to begin with. Fixed the FW to allow turning on and off the mechanism at run time. Fixed the code to read the value from the chip at the right sequence. Without this fix, if the initial value was set to zero, traffic could not run on the interface. Signed-off-by: Eilon Greenstein <eilong@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-08-12bnx2x: Using the new FWEilon Greenstein1-1/+1
The new FW improves the packets per second rate. It required a lot of change in the FW which implies many changes in the driver to support it. It is now also possible for the driver to use a separate MSI-X vector for Rx and Tx - this also add some to the complicity of this change. All things said - after this patch, practically all performance matrixes show improvement. Though Vladislav Zolotarov is not signed on this patch, he did most of the job and deserves credit for that. >From now on FW will be downloaded from the binary file using request_firmware. There will be different files for every supported chip. Currently 57710 (e1) and 57711 (e1h). File names have the following format: bnx2x-<chip version>-<FW version>.fw. ihex versions of current FW files are submitted in the next patch. Then, I cd into <destdir>, run 'make modules_install' and get the error above. The issue turns out to be that we when we install firmware pick up the list of firmware blobs from firmware/Makefile. And this triggers the Makefile rules to update ihex2fw. There were two solutions for this issue: 1) Move the list of firmware blobs to a separate file 2) Avoid ihex2fw rebuild by moving it to scripts As I seriously beleive that the list of firmware blobs should be done in a fundamental different way solution 2) was selected. Summary of changes: - Remove '<' and '>' candy (they specify explicit addressing modes, which a56 don't grok, but uses implicitly anyway). - Replace 'move' with 'movem' when accessing program memory. - Rename a few labels to avoid duplicates (which a56 can't handle). 2009-01-04firmware: convert acenic driver to request_firmware()Jaswinder Singh4-0/+9435
We store the firmware in its native big-endian form now, so the loop in ace_copy() is modified to use be32_to_cpup() when writing it out. We can forget the BSS,SBSS sections of the firmware, since we were clearing all the device's RAM anyway. And the text, rodata, data sections can all be loaded as a single chunk since they're contiguous (give or take a few dozen bytes in between). 2008-07-14firmware: Correct dependency on CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIRDavid Woodhouse1-1/+1
When CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIR gets changed, the filename in the .S file (which uses .incbin to include the binary) needs to change. When we renamed the BUILTIN_FIRMWARE_DIR option to EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIR, we forgot to update the manual dependency in firmware/Makefile, so it was depending on a non-existent file in include/config/ Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <David.Woodhouse@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Although it wasn't actually using ihex records before, we use the Intel HEX record format for this firmware -- because that gives us a simple way to split it into separate chunks internally as we need, without loading each part as a separate file. 2008-07-10ihex: Add support for long records to ihex2fw.cDavid Woodhouse2-19/+47
Some drivers could do with using records like Intel HEX, but with each record being larger than 256 bytes. This has been possible in the binary representation (struct ihex_binrec) in the kernel since the beginning -- at least of the the current version of history. But we haven't been able to represent that in the .HEX files which get converted to .fw files. This adds a '-w' option to ihex2fw to make it interpret the first _two_ bytes of each line as the record length, instead of only one byte. And adds makefile rules for %.H16->%.fw which use that. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org>
2008-07-10ihex: add ihex2fw tool for converting HEX files into firmware imagesDavid Woodhouse2-0/+261
Not the straight conversion to binary which objcopy can do for us, but actually representing each record with its original {addr, length}, because some drivers need that information preserved. Fix up 'firmware_install' to be able to build $(hostprogs-y) too. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org>
2008-07-10firmware: Add firmware installation to modules_install, add firmware_installDavid Woodhouse1-7/+17
For 'make modules_install', install any firmware required by the modules which are being installed. Also add a 'make firmware_install' target which doesn't depend on the configuration, but installs _all_ available in-kernel-tree firmware into $(INSTALL_FW_PATH), which defaults to /lib/firmware. This is intended for distributors to make arch-independent (and config-independent) packages containing firmware. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <David.Woodhouse@intel.com>
2008-07-10firmware: Add CONFIG_FIRMWARE_IN_KERNEL option.David Woodhouse1-0/+5
This will control whether we build firmware into the kernel image for _every_ driver which we convert to request_firmware(), to avoid a proliferation of 'CONFIG_XXX_FIRMWARE' options for each one. Default to 'y' for now, which is the wrong thing to do but people seem to be insisting on it and refusing to even review patches until it's done. And it does preserve the existing behaviour for built-in drivers. Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org>
2008-07-10firmware: Add CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE optionDavid Woodhouse1-0/+88
This allows arbitrary firmware files to be included in the static kernel where the firmware loader can find them without requiring userspace to be alive. (Updated and CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIR added with lots of help from Johannes Berg). Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net>
