Pablo Neira Ayuso says:
====================
The following patchset contains 7 Netfilter/IPVS fixes for 3.9-rc, they are:
* Restrict IPv6 stateless NPT targets to the mangle table. Many users are
complaining that this target does not work in the nat table, which is the
wrong table for it, from Florian Westphal.
* Fix possible use before initialization in the netns init path of several
conntrack protocol trackers (introduced recently while improving conntrack
netns support), from Gao Feng.
* Fix incorrect initialization of copy_range in nfnetlink_queue, spotted
by Eric Dumazet during the NFWS2013, patch from myself.
* Fix wrong calculation of next SCTP chunk in IPVS, from Julian Anastasov.
* Remove rcu_read_lock section in IPVS while calling ipv4_update_pmtu
not required anymore after change introduced in 3.7, again from Julian.
* Fix SYN looping in IPVS state sync if the backup is used a real server
in DR/TUN modes, this required a new /proc entry to disable the director
function when acting as backup, also from Julian.
* Remove leftover IP_NF_QUEUE Kconfig after ip_queue removal, noted by
Paul Bolle.

Dmitry Akindinov is reporting for a problem where SYNs are looping
between the master and backup server when the backup server is used as
real server in DR mode and has IPVS rules to function as director.
Even when the backup function is enabled we continue to forward
traffic and schedule new connections when the current master is using
the backup server as real server. While this is not a problem for NAT,
for DR and TUN method the backup server can not determine if a request
comes from client or from director.
To avoid such loops add new sysctl flag backup_only. It can be needed
for DR/TUN setups that do not need backup and director function at the
same time. When the backup function is enabled we stop any forwarding
and pass the traffic to the local stack (real server mode). The flag
disables the director function when the backup function is enabled.
For setups that enable backup function for some virtual services and
director function for other virtual services there should be another
more complex solution to support DR/TUN mode, may be to assign
per-virtual service syncid value, so that we can differentiate the
requests.

The ab8500 device is a child of the prcmu device, which is a memory mapped
bus device, whose children are addressable using physical memory addresses,
not using mailboxes, so a mailbox number in the ab8500 node cannot be
parsed by DT. Nothing uses this number, since it was only introduced
as part of the failed attempt to clean up prcmu mailbox handling, and
we can simply remove it.

Don Morris reproduced on a HP z620 workstation, and bisected it to
commit e8d195525809 ("acpi, memory-hotplug: parse SRAT before memblock
is ready")
It turns out movable_map has some problems, and it breaks several things
1. numa_init is called several times, NOT just for srat. so those
nodes_clear(numa_nodes_parsed)
memset(&numa_meminfo, 0, sizeof(numa_meminfo))
can not be just removed. Need to consider sequence is: numaq, srat, amd, dummy.
and make fall back path working.
2. simply split acpi_numa_init to early_parse_srat.
a. that early_parse_srat is NOT called for ia64, so you break ia64.
b. for (i = 0; i < MAX_LOCAL_APIC; i++)
set_apicid_to_node(i, NUMA_NO_NODE)
still left in numa_init. So it will just clear result from early_parse_srat.
it should be moved before that....
c. it breaks ACPI_TABLE_OVERIDE...as the acpi table scan is moved
early before override from INITRD is settled.
3. that patch TITLE is total misleading, there is NO x86 in the title,
but it changes critical x86 code. It caused x86 guys did not
pay attention to find the problem early. Those patches really should
be routed via tip/x86/mm.
4. after that commit, following range can not use movable ram:
a. real_mode code.... well..funny, legacy Node0 [0,1M) could be hot-removed?
b. initrd... it will be freed after booting, so it could be on movable...
c. crashkernel for kdump...: looks like we can not put kdump kernel above 4G
anymore.
d. init_mem_mapping: can not put page table high anymore.
e. initmem_init: vmemmap can not be high local node anymore. That is
not good.
If node is hotplugable, the mem related range like page table and
vmemmap could be on the that node without problem and should be on that
node.
We have workaround patch that could fix some problems, but some can not
be fixed.
So just remove that offending commit and related ones including:
f7210e6c4ac7 ("mm/memblock.c: use CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP to
protect movablecore_map in memblock_overlaps_region().")
01a178a94e8e ("acpi, memory-hotplug: support getting hotplug info from
SRAT")
27168d38fa20 ("acpi, memory-hotplug: extend movablemem_map ranges to
the end of node")
e8d195525809 ("acpi, memory-hotplug: parse SRAT before memblock is
ready")
fb06bc8e5f42 ("page_alloc: bootmem limit with movablecore_map")
42f47e27e761 ("page_alloc: make movablemem_map have higher priority")
6981ec31146c ("page_alloc: introduce zone_movable_limit[] to keep
movable limit for nodes")
34b71f1e04fc ("page_alloc: add movable_memmap kernel parameter")
4d59a75125d5 ("x86: get pg_data_t's memory from other node")
Later we should have patches that will make sure kernel put page table
and vmemmap on local node ram instead of push them down to node0. Also
need to find way to put other kernel used ram to local node ram.

"Initial ARC Linux port with some fixes on top for 3.9-rc1:
I would like to introduce the Linux port to ARC Processors (from
Synopsys) for 3.9-rc1. The patch-set has been discussed on the public
lists since Nov and has received a fair bit of review, specially from
Arnd, tglx, Al and other subsystem maintainers for DeviceTree, kgdb...
The arch bits are in arch/arc, some asm-generic changes (acked by
Arnd), a minor change to PARISC (acked by Helge).
The series is a touch bigger for a new port for 2 main reasons:
1. It enables a basic kernel in first sub-series and adds
ptrace/kgdb/.. later
2. Some of the fallout of review (DeviceTree support, multi-platform-
image support) were added on top of orig series, primarily to
record the revision history.

- fixes due to our GNU tools catching up with the new syscall/ptrace

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM SoC mvebu platform changes from Olof Johansson:
"This series contains changes for the Marvell EBU platforms (mvebu,
orion, kirkwood, dove) that were not part of the first set of pull
requests because of dependencies on the MMC tree, and being submitted
a little late.
Notable changes are:
- More devices get moved out of board files into device tree
descriptions. The remaining devices listed in there have patches
that will get sent for 3.10, after which we can remove a lot of the
board files entirely. We are doing the pinctrl and mmc drivers
here, ethernet and PCI still remain.
- SMP support for mvebu is improved with support for the local
interrupt controller.
- The Guruplug board file gets replaced with a DT description.
Unfortunately, the dependency on the MMC tree turned out to be a much
larger problem than expected, when the MMC maintainer rebased the
patches in his tree that all of the patches in this branch are based
on, which caused merge conflicts between the new and old versions of
those patches.
To work around the merge conflicts, this branch rebases all patches on
top of the respective MMC patches that did get merged into 3.9. The
patches are all identical to the versions that were part of
linux-next, but have a new commit date."

Pull ARM SoC i.MX DT changes from Olof Johansson:
"This branch contains of devicetree changes for the Freescale i.MX
platform.
The base patch of the branch changes the format of the dts files to a
slightly different format that makes it easier to do derivative board
definitions, but it also introduces a lot of churn in the process
since every line of the file is touched.
On top of that are a handful of the regular changes; enabling more
boards as DT-based instead of legacy board files (mx25pdk), enabling
another driver for devicetree and thus adding bindings (onewire), etc.
I'm not happy about the churn, and will likely not take it for other
platforms in the future."

The original device tree binding for this driver, from Viresh Kumar
unfortunately conflicted with the generic DMA binding, and did not allow
to completely seperate slave device configuration from the controller.
This is an attempt to replace it with an implementation of the generic
binding, but it is currently completely untested, because I do not have
any hardware with this particular controller.
The patch applies on top of the slave-dma tree, which contains both the base
support for the generic DMA binding, as well as the earlier attempt from
Viresh. Both of these are currently not merged upstream however.
This version incorporates feedback from Viresh Kumar, Andy Shevchenko
and Russell King.

Documentation/blockdev/nbd.txt contained some documentation which was
horribly outdated and probably still dates from the original patch that
added NBD support to the kernel.
This patch removes the useless and outdated bits. The tools on nbd.sf.net
are fully documented in manpages, which is where documentation for the
non-kernel bits should live.
Additionally, add a reference to the MAINTAINERS file for the nbd-general
mailinglist that is used for discussion of the userland tools and the
kernel module already.

All drivers which implement this need to have some sort of refcount to
allow concurrent vmap usage. Hence implement this in the dma-buf core.
To protect against concurrent calls we need a lock, which potentially
causes new funny locking inversions. But this shouldn't be a problem
for exporters with statically allocated backing storage, and more
dynamic drivers have decent issues already anyway.
Inspired by some refactoring patches from Aaron Plattner, who
implemented the same idea, but only for drm/prime drivers.
v2: Check in dma_buf_release that no dangling vmaps are left.
Suggested by Aaron Plattner. We might want to do similar checks for
attachments, but that's for another patch. Also fix up ERR_PTR return
for vmap.
v3: Check whether the passed-in vmap address matches with the cached
one for vunmap. Eventually we might want to remove that parameter -
compared to the kmap functions there's no need for the vaddr for
unmapping. Suggested by Chris Wilson.
v4: Fix a brown-paper-bag bug spotted by Aaron Plattner.

The following set of operations on a NFS client and server will cause
server# mkdir a
client# cd a
server# mv a a.bak
client# sleep 30 # (or whatever the dir attrcache timeout is)
client# stat .
stat: cannot stat `.': Stale NFS file handle
Obviously, we should not be getting an ESTALE error back there since the
inode still exists on the server. The problem is that the lookup code
will call d_revalidate on the dentry that "." refers to, because NFS has
FS_REVAL_DOT set.
nfs_lookup_revalidate will see that the parent directory has changed and
will try to reverify the dentry by redoing a LOOKUP. That of course
fails, so the lookup code returns ESTALE.
The problem here is that d_revalidate is really a bad fit for this case.
What we really want to know at this point is whether the inode is still
good or not, but we don't really care what name it goes by or whether
the dcache is still valid.
Add a new d_op->d_weak_revalidate operation and have complete_walk call
that instead of d_revalidate. The intent there is to allow for a
"weaker" d_revalidate that just checks to see whether the inode is still
good. This is also gives us an opportunity to kill off the FS_REVAL_DOT
special casing.
[AV: changed method name, added note in porting, fixed confusion re
having it possibly called from RCU mode (it won't be)]

DM RAID: Add support for MD's RAID10 "far" and "offset" algorithms
Until now, dm-raid.c only supported the "near" algorthm of MD's RAID10
implementation. This patch adds support for the "far" and "offset"
algorithms, but only with the improved redundancy that is brought with
the introduction of the 'use_far_sets' bit, which shifts copied stripes
according to smaller sets vs the entire array. That is, the 17th bit
of the 'layout' variable that defines the RAID10 implementation will
always be set. (More information on how the 'layout' variable selects
the RAID10 algorithm can be found in the opening comments of
drivers/md/raid10.c.)

Pull user namespace and namespace infrastructure changes from Eric W Biederman:
"This set of changes starts with a few small enhnacements to the user
namespace. reboot support, allowing more arbitrary mappings, and
support for mounting devpts, ramfs, tmpfs, and mqueuefs as just the
user namespace root.
I do my best to document that if you care about limiting your
unprivileged users that when you have the user namespace support
enabled you will need to enable memory control groups.
There is a minor bug fix to prevent overflowing the stack if someone
creates way too many user namespaces.
The bulk of the changes are a continuation of the kuid/kgid push down
work through the filesystems. These changes make using uids and gids
typesafe which ensures that these filesystems are safe to use when
multiple user namespaces are in use. The filesystems converted for
3.9 are ceph, 9p, afs, ocfs2, gfs2, ncpfs, nfs, nfsd, and cifs. The
changes for these filesystems were a little more involved so I split
the changes into smaller hopefully obviously correct changes.
XFS is the only filesystem that remains. I was hoping I could get
that in this release so that user namespace support would be enabled
with an allyesconfig or an allmodconfig but it looks like the xfs
changes need another couple of days before it they are ready."

in platform data. With DT often each such capability requires a special
binding. Add bindings for MMC_CAP_SD_HIGHSPEED, MMC_CAP_MMC_HIGHSPEED,

DT parser to look up "keep-power-in-suspend" and "enable-sdio-wakeup"

None of mmc drivers implements bus-width as a required device tree
property. Instead, some drivers like atmel-mci, dw_mmc, sdhci-s3c
implement it as an optional one, and will force bus width to be 1

reflect what the drivers are usually doing.

The "disable-wp" property is used to specify that a given SD card slot
doesn't have a concept of write protect. This eliminates the need for
special case code for SD slots that should never be write protected
(like a micro SD slot or a dev board).
The dw_mmc driver is special in needing to specify "disable-wp"
because the lack of a "wp-gpios" property means to use the special
purpose write protect line. On some other mmc devices the lack of
"wp-gpios" means that write protect should be disabled.

Here's a KSM series, based on mmotm 2013-01-23-17-04: starting with
Petr's v7 "KSM: numa awareness sysfs knob"; then fixing the two issues
we had with that, fully enabling KSM page migration on the way.
(A different kind of KSM/NUMA issue which I've certainly not begun to
address here: when KSM pages are unmerged, there's usually no sense in
preferring to allocate the new pages local to the caller's node.)
This patch:
Introduces new sysfs boolean knob /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/merge_across_nodes
which control merging pages across different numa nodes. When it is set
to zero only pages from the same node are merged, otherwise pages from
all nodes can be merged together (default behavior).
Typical use-case could be a lot of KVM guests on NUMA machine and cpus
from more distant nodes would have significant increase of access
latency to the merged ksm page. Sysfs knob was choosen for higher
variability when some users still prefers higher amount of saved
physical memory regardless of access latency.
Every numa node has its own stable & unstable trees because of faster
searching and inserting. Changing of merge_across_nodes value is
possible only when there are not any ksm shared pages in system.
I've tested this patch on numa machines with 2, 4 and 8 nodes and
measured speed of memory access inside of KVM guests with memory pinned
to one of nodes with this benchmark:
http://pholasek.fedorapeople.org/alloc_pg.c
Population standard deviations of access times in percentage of average
were following:
merge_across_nodes=1
2 nodes 1.4%
4 nodes 1.6%
8 nodes 1.7%
merge_across_nodes=0
2 nodes 1%
4 nodes 0.32%
8 nodes 0.018%

Hugh notes that this patch brings two problems, whose solution needs
further support in mm/ksm.c, which follows in subsequent patches:
1) switching merge_across_nodes after running KSM is liable to oops
on stale nodes still left over from the previous stable tree;
2) memory hotremove may migrate KSM pages, but there is no provision
here for !merge_across_nodes to migrate nodes to the proper tree.

We now provide an option for users who don't want to specify physical
memory address in kernel commandline.
/*
* For movablemem_map=acpi:
*
* SRAT: |_____| |_____| |_________| |_________| ......
* node id: 0 1 1 2
* hotpluggable: n y y n
* movablemem_map: |_____| |_________|
*
* Using movablemem_map, we can prevent memblock from allocating memory
* on ZONE_MOVABLE at boot time.
*/
So user just specify movablemem_map=acpi, and the kernel will use
hotpluggable info in SRAT to determine which memory ranges should be set
as ZONE_MOVABLE.
If all the memory ranges in SRAT is hotpluggable, then no memory can be
used by kernel. But before parsing SRAT, memblock has already reserve
some memory ranges for other purposes, such as for kernel image, and so
on. We cannot prevent kernel from using these memory. So we need to
exclude these ranges even if these memory is hotpluggable.
Furthermore, there could be several memory ranges in the single node
which the kernel resides in. We may skip one range that have memory
reserved by memblock, but if the rest of memory is too small, then the
kernel will fail to boot. So, make the whole node which the kernel
resides in un-hotpluggable. Then the kernel has enough memory to use.
NOTE: Using this way will cause NUMA performance down because the
whole node will be set as ZONE_MOVABLE, and kernel cannot use memory
on it. If users don't want to lose NUMA performance, just don't use
it.

Pull x86 mm changes from Peter Anvin:
"This is a huge set of several partly interrelated (and concurrently
developed) changes, which is why the branch history is messier than
one would like.
The *really* big items are two humonguous patchsets mostly developed
by Yinghai Lu at my request, which completely revamps the way we
create initial page tables. In particular, rather than estimating how
much memory we will need for page tables and then build them into that
memory -- a calculation that has shown to be incredibly fragile -- we
now build them (on 64 bits) with the aid of a "pseudo-linear mode" --
a #PF handler which creates temporary page tables on demand.
This has several advantages:
1. It makes it much easier to support things that need access to data
very early (a followon patchset uses this to load microcode way
early in the kernel startup).
2. It allows the kernel and all the kernel data objects to be invoked
from above the 4 GB limit. This allows kdump to work on very large
systems.
3. It greatly reduces the difference between Xen and native (Xen's
equivalent of the #PF handler are the temporary page tables created
by the domain builder), eliminating a bunch of fragile hooks.
The patch series also gets us a bit closer to W^X.
Additional work in this pull is the 64-bit get_user() work which you
were also involved with, and a bunch of cleanups/speedups to
__phys_addr()/__pa()."

This patchset ("stable page writes, part 2") makes some key
modifications to the original 'stable page writes' patchset. First, it
provides creators (devices and filesystems) of a backing_dev_info a flag
that declares whether or not it is necessary to ensure that page
contents cannot change during writeout. It is no longer assumed that
this is true of all devices (which was never true anyway). Second, the
flag is used to relaxed the wait_on_page_writeback calls so that wait
only occurs if the device needs it. Third, it fixes up the remaining
disk-backed filesystems to use this improved conditional-wait logic to
provide stable page writes on those filesystems.
It is hoped that (for people not using checksumming devices, anyway)
this patchset will give back unnecessary performance decreases since the
original stable page write patchset went into 3.0. Sorry about not
fixing it sooner.
Complaints were registered by several people about the long write
latencies introduced by the original stable page write patchset.
Generally speaking, the kernel ought to allocate as little extra memory
as possible to facilitate writeout, but for people who simply cannot
wait, a second page stability strategy is (re)introduced: snapshotting
page contents. The waiting behavior is still the default strategy; to
enable page snapshotting, a superblock flag (MS_SNAP_STABLE) must be
set. This flag is used to bandaid^Henable stable page writeback on
ext3[1], and is not used anywhere else.
Given that there are already a few storage devices and network FSes that
have rolled their own page stability wait/page snapshot code, it would
be nice to move towards consolidating all of these. It seems possible
that iscsi and raid5 may wish to use the new stable page write support
to enable zero-copy writeout.
Thank you to Jan Kara for helping fix a couple more filesystems.
Per Andrew Morton's request, here are the result of using dbench to measure
latencies on ext2:
3.8.0-rc3:
Operation Count AvgLat MaxLat
----------------------------------------
WriteX 109347 0.028 59.817
ReadX 347180 0.004 3.391
Flush 15514 29.828 287.283
Throughput 57.429 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=287.290 ms
3.8.0-rc3 + patches:
WriteX 105556 0.029 4.273
ReadX 335004 0.005 4.112
Flush 14982 30.540 298.634
Throughput 55.4496 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=298.650 ms
As you can see, for ext2 the maximum write latency decreases from ~60ms
on a laptop hard disk to ~4ms. I'm not sure why the flush latencies
increase, though I suspect that being able to dirty pages faster gives
the flusher more work to do.
On ext4, the average write latency decreases as well as all the maximum
latencies:
3.8.0-rc3:
WriteX 85624 0.152 33.078
ReadX 272090 0.010 61.210
Flush 12129 36.219 168.260
Throughput 44.8618 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=168.276 ms
3.8.0-rc3 + patches:
WriteX 86082 0.141 30.928
ReadX 273358 0.010 36.124
Flush 12214 34.800 165.689
Throughput 44.9941 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=165.722 ms
XFS seems to exhibit similar latency improvements as ext2:
3.8.0-rc3:
WriteX 125739 0.028 104.343
ReadX 399070 0.005 4.115
Flush 17851 25.004 131.390
Throughput 66.0024 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=131.406 ms
3.8.0-rc3 + patches:
WriteX 123529 0.028 6.299
ReadX 392434 0.005 4.287
Flush 17549 25.120 188.687
Throughput 64.9113 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=188.704 ms
...and btrfs, just to round things out, also shows some latency
decreases:
3.8.0-rc3:
WriteX 67122 0.083 82.355
ReadX 212719 0.005 2.828
Flush 9547 47.561 147.418
Throughput 35.3391 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=147.433 ms
3.8.0-rc3 + patches:
WriteX 64898 0.101 71.631
ReadX 206673 0.005 7.123
Flush 9190 47.963 219.034
Throughput 34.0795 MB/sec 4 clients 4 procs max_latency=219.044 ms
Before this patchset, all filesystems would block, regardless of whether
or not it was necessary. ext3 would wait, but still generate occasional
checksum errors. The network filesystems were left to do their own
thing, so they'd wait too.
After this patchset, all the disk filesystems except ext3 and btrfs will
wait only if the hardware requires it. ext3 (if necessary) snapshots
pages instead of blocking, and btrfs provides its own bdi so the mm will
never wait. Network filesystems haven't been touched, so either they
provide their own wait code, or they don't block at all. The blocking
behavior is back to what it was before 3.0 if you don't have a disk
requiring stable page writes.
This patchset has been tested on 3.8.0-rc3 on x64 with ext3, ext4, and
xfs. I've spot-checked 3.8.0-rc4 and seem to be getting the same
results as -rc3.
[1] The alternative fixes to ext3 include fixing the locking order and
page bit handling like we did for ext4 (but then why not just use
ext4?), or setting PG_writeback so early that ext3 becomes extremely
slow. I tried that, but the number of write()s I could initiate dropped
by nearly an order of magnitude. That was a bit much even for the
author of the stable page series! :)
This patch:
Creates a per-backing-device flag that tracks whether or not pages must
be held immutable during writeout. Eventually it will be used to waive
wait_for_page_writeback() if nothing requires stable pages.

Pull ARM SoC cleanups from Arnd Bergmann:
"A large number of cleanups, all over the platforms. This is dominated
largely by the Samsung platforms (s3c, s5p, exynos) and a few of the
others moving code out of arch/arm into more appropriate subsystems.
The clocksource and irqchip drivers are now abstracted to the point
where platforms that are already cleaned up do not need to even
specify the driver they use, it can all get configured from the device
tree as we do for normal device drivers. The clocksource changes
basically touch every single platform in the process.
We further clean up the use of platform specific header files here,
with the goal of turning more of the platforms over to being
"multiplatform" enabled, which implies that they cannot expose their
headers to architecture independent code any more.
It is expected that no functional changes are part of the cleanup.
The overall reduction in total code lines is mostly the result of
removing broken and obsolete code."

Pull sound updates from Takashi Iwai:
"The biggest change in this update is the unification of HD-audio codec
parsers. Now the HD-audio codec is parsed in a generic parser code
which is invoked by each HD-audio codec driver.
Some background information is found in David Henningsson's blog
entry:
http://voices.canonical.com/david.henningsson/2013/01/18/upcoming-changes-to-the-intel-hda-drivers/
Other than that, some random updates/fixes like USB-audio and a bunch
of small AoC updates as usual.
Highlights:
- Unification of HD-audio parser code (aka generic parser)
- Support of new Intel HD-audio controller, new IDT codecs
- Fixes for HD-audio HDMI audio hotplug
- Haswell HDMI audio fixup
- Support of Creative CA0132 DSP code
- A few fixes of HDSP driver
- USB-audio fix for Roland A-PRO, M-Audio FT C600
- Support PM for aloop driver (and fixes Oops)
- Compress API updates for gapless playback support
For ASoC part:
- Support for a wider range of hardware in the compressed stream code
- The ability to mute capture streams as well as playback streams
while inactive
- DT support for AK4642, FSI, Samsung I2S and WM8962
- AC'97 support for Tegra
- New driver for max98090, replacing the stub which was there
- A new driver from Dialog
Note that due to dependencies, DTification of DMA support for Samsung
platforms (used only by the and I2S driver and SPI) is merged here as
well."

None are dire enough to be Cc'd to stable which may be interpreted to

- This tracing commit:
tracing: Remove the extra 4 bytes of padding in events
changes the ABI. All involved parties (PowerTop in particular)
seem to agree that it's safe to do now with the introduction of
libtraceevent, but the devil is in the details ...
Main tooling side changes:
- Add 'event group view', from Namyung Kim:
To use it, 'perf record' should group events when recording. And
then perf report parses the saved group relation from file header
and prints them together if --group option is provided. You can
use the 'perf evlist' command to see event group information:
$ perf record -e '{ref-cycles,cycles}' noploop 1
[ perf record: Woken up 2 times to write data ]
[ perf record: Captured and wrote 0.385 MB perf.data (~16807 samples) ]
$ perf evlist --group
{ref-cycles,cycles}
With this example, default perf report will show you each event
separately.
You can use --group option to enable event group view:
$ perf report --group
...
# group: {ref-cycles,cycles}
# ========
# Samples: 7K of event 'anon group { ref-cycles, cycles }'
# Event count (approx.): 6876107743
#
# Overhead Command Shared Object Symbol
# ................ ....... ................. ..........................
99.84% 99.76% noploop noploop [.] main
0.07% 0.00% noploop ld-2.15.so [.] strcmp
0.03% 0.00% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] timerqueue_del
0.03% 0.03% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] sched_clock_cpu
0.02% 0.00% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] account_user_time
0.01% 0.00% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] __alloc_pages_nodemask
0.00% 0.00% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] native_write_msr_safe
0.00% 0.11% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] _raw_spin_lock
0.00% 0.06% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] find_get_page
0.00% 0.02% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] rcu_check_callbacks
0.00% 0.02% noploop [kernel.kallsyms] [k] __current_kernel_time
As you can see the Overhead column now contains both of ref-cycles
and cycles and header line shows group information also - 'anon
group { ref-cycles, cycles }'. The output is sorted by period of
group leader first.
- Initial GTK+ annotate browser, from Namhyung Kim.
- Add option for runtime switching perf data file in perf report,
just press 's' and a menu with the valid files found in the current
directory will be presented, from Feng Tang.
- Add support to display whole group data for raw columns, from Jiri
Olsa.

Stephane Eranian.
- Add interval printing in 'perf stat', from Stephane Eranian.
- 'perf test' improvements
- Add support for wildcards in tracepoint system name, from Jiri
Olsa.
- Add anonymous huge page recognition, from Joshua Zhu.
- perf build-id cache now can show DSOs present in a perf.data file
that are not in the cache, to integrate with build-id servers being
put in place by organizations such as Fedora.
- perf top now shares more of the evsel config/creation routines with
'record', paving the way for further integration like 'top'
snapshots, etc.
- perf top now supports DWARF callchains.
- Fix mmap limitations on 32-bit, fix from David Miller.
- 'perf bench numa mem' NUMA performance measurement suite
- ... and lots of fixes, performance improvements, cleanups and other
improvements I failed to list - see the shortlog and git log for
details."

A simple DRM/KMS driver for the TI LCD Controller found in various
smaller TI parts (AM33xx, OMAPL138, etc). This driver uses the
CMA helpers. Currently only the TFP410 DVI encoder is supported
(tested with beaglebone + DVI cape). There are also various LCD
displays, for which support can be added (as I get hw to test on),
and an external i2c HDMI encoder found on some boards.
The display controller supports a single CRTC. And the encoder+
connector are split out into sub-devices. Depending on which LCD
or external encoder is actually present, the appropriate output
module(s) will be loaded.

v2: fix fb refcnting and few other cleanups
v3: get +/- vsync/hsync from timings rather than panel-info, add
option DT max-bandwidth field so driver doesn't attempt to
pick a display mode with too high memory bandwidth, and other
small cleanups

These changes contain the OMAP USB related platform data changes
that were dropped from linux next because of the merge conflicts
as requested by me and Olof. The reason was that at this point
we really should be able to do the arch/arm related changes
separately from driver changes to avoid dependencies between
branches.
These patches were initially part of the USB related MFD patches.
Based on our comments, Roger Quadros quickly reworked these
patches into a shared branch between ARM SoC tree and the MFD
tree, then separate patches for the OMAP platform data and
MFD driver.
Note that this branch will conflict with c1d1cd597fc7

The ThingM blink(1) is an open source hardware USB RGB LED. It contains
an internal EEPROM, allowing to configure up to 12 light patterns. A
light pattern is a RGB color plus a fade time. This driver registers a
LED class instance with additional sysfs attributes to support basic
functions such as setting RGB colors, fade and playing. Other functions
are still accessible through the hidraw interface.
At this time, the only documentation for the device is the firmware
source code from ThingM, plus a few schematics. They are available at:
https://github.com/todbot/blink1
This patch is version 3. It updates the name of the source file, the
driver and the led sysfs entry, according to comments from Jiri Kosina

Now that the fbdev helper interface for drivers is trimmed down,
update the kerneldoc for all the remaining exported functions.
I've tried to beat the DocBook a bit by reordering the function
references a bit into a more sensible ordering. But that didn't work
out at all. Hence just extend the in-code DOC: section a bit.
Also remove the LOCKING: sections - especially for the setup functions
they're totally bogus. But that's not a documentation problem, but
simply an artifact of the current rather hazardous locking around drm
init and even more so around fbdev setup ...
v2: Some further improvements:
- Also add documentation for drm_fb_helper_single_add_all_connectors,
Dave Airlie didn't want me to kill this one from the fb helper
interface.
- Update docs for drm_fb_helper_fill_var/fix - they should be used
from the driver's ->fb_probe callback to setup the fbdev info
structure.
- Clarify what the ->fb_probe callback should all do - it needs to
setup both the fbdev info and allocate the drm framebuffer used as
backing storage.
- Add basic documentaation for the drm_fb_helper_funcs driver callback
vfunc.

The PAMU caches use the LIODNs to determine which cache lines hold the
entries for the corresponding LIODs. The LIODNs must therefore be
carefully assigned to avoid cache thrashing -- two active LIODs with
LIODNs that put them in the same cache line.
Currently, LIODNs are statically assigned by U-Boot, but this has
limitations. LIODNs are assigned even for devices that may be disabled
or unused by the kernel. Static assignments also do not allow for device
drivers which may know which LIODs can be used simultaneously. In
other words, we really should assign LIODNs dynamically in Linux.
To do that, we need to describe the PAMU device and cache topologies in
the device trees.

The CPSW switch can act as Dual EMAC by segregating the switch ports
using VLAN and port VLAN as per the TRM description in
14.3.2.10.2 Dual Mac Mode
Following CPSW components will be common for both the interfaces.
* Interrupt source is common for both eth interfaces
* Interrupt pacing is common for both interfaces
* Hardware statistics is common for all the ports
* CPDMA is common for both eth interface
* CPTS is common for both the interface and it should not be enabled on
both the interface as timestamping information doesn't contain port
information.
Constrains
* Reserved VID of One port should not be used in other interface which will
enable switching functionality
* Same VID must not be used in both the interface which will enable switching
functionality

Using /dev/pstore as a mount point for the pstore filesystem is slightly
awkward. We don't normally mount filesystems in /dev/ and the /dev/pstore
file isn't created automatically by anything. While this method will
still work, we can create a persistent mount point in sysfs. This will
put pstore on par with things like cgroups and efivarfs.

From Dinh Nguyen, this is a series of patches introducing support for
socfpga hardware (Altera Cyclone5). It also includes a cleanup that
moves some of the ARMv7 cache maintenance functions to a common location,
since three other platforms aready implemented it separately.
* socfpga/hw:
arm: socfpga: Add SMP support for actual socfpga harware
arm: Add v7_invalidate_l1 to cache-v7.S
arm: socfpga: Add entries to enable make dtbs socfpga
arm: socfpga: Add new device tree source for actual socfpga HW
Trivial conflict in arch/arm/mach-tegra/headsmp.S.

Because the CPU1 start address is different for socfpga-vt and
socfpga-cyclone5, we add code to use the correct CPU1 start addr.
