2022-09-07docs: add CONFIGURATION sections that fuzzy map to built-insÆvar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-0/+7
Add a CONFIGURATION section to the documentation of various built-ins, for those cases where the relevant config/NAME.txt doesn't map only to one git-NAME.txt. In particular: * config/blame.txt: used by git-{blame,annotate}.txt. Since the git-annotate(1) documentation refers to git-blame(1) don't add a "CONFIGURATION" section to git-annotate(1), only to git-blame(1). * config/checkout.txt: maps to both git-checkout.txt and git-switch.txt (but nothing else). * config/init.txt: should be included in git-init(1) and git-clone(1). * config/column.txt: We should ideally mention the relevant subset of this in git-{branch,clean,status,tag}.txt, but let's punt on it for now. We will when we eventually split these sort of files into e.g. config/column.txt and config/column/{branch,clean,status,tag}.txt, with the former including the latter set. Things that are being left out, and why: * config/{remote,remotes,credential}.txt: Configuration that affects how we talk to remote repositories is harder to untangle. We'll need to include some of this in git-{fetch,remote,push,ls-remote}.txt etc., but some of those only use a small subset of these options. Let's leave this for now. 2021-08-26column: fix parsing of the '--nl' optionSZEDER Gábor1-1/+1
'git column's '--nl' option can be used to specify a "string to be printed at the end of each line" (quoting the man page), but this option and its mandatory argument has been parsed as OPT_INTEGER since the introduction of the command in 7e29b8254f (Add column layout skeleton and git-column, 2012-04-21). Consequently, any non-number argument is rejected by parse-options, and any number other than 0 leads to segfault: $ printf "%s\n" one two |git column --mode=plain --nl=foo error: option `nl' expects a numerical value $ printf "%s\n" one two |git column --mode=plain --nl=42 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $ printf "%s\n" one two |git column --mode=plain --nl=0 one two Parse this option as OPT_STRING. 2018-12-26git-column.txt: fix section headerMartin Ågren1-1/+1
We have too few dashes under "Examples", which causes Asciidoctor to not pick it up as a section header. Instead, it thinks we are starting a code listing block, which ends up containing the remainder of the document. The result is quite ugly. Make sure we have as many dashes as we have characters in "Examples". Asciidoc renders identically before and after this patch, both man-page and html. 2018-09-21git-column.1: clarify initial description, provide examplesFrederick Eaton1-2/+33
When I read this man page I couldn't figure out what kind of input it was referring to, or how input was being put into columns, or where I should look for the syntax of the --mode option. Signed-off-by: Frederick Eaton <frederik@ofb.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2014-01-27doc: remote author/documentation sections from more pagesMichael Haggerty1-5/+0
We decided at 48bb914e (doc: drop author/documentation sections from most pages, 2011-03-11) to remove "author" and "documentation" sections from our documentation. Remove a few stragglers. 2012-04-27Add column layout skeleton and git-columnNguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy1-0/+53
A column option string consists of many token separated by either a space or a comma. A token belongs to one of three groups: - enabling: always, never and auto - layout mode: currently plain (which does not layout at all) - other future tuning flags git-column can be used to pipe output to from a command that wants column layout, but not to mess with its own output code. Simpler output code can be changed to use column layout code directly.
