In practice it's unlikely anyone would try to set the integration time to 0 which isn't in the available list and if they did then they would get index 12 which whilst reserved on the device fits in the field. 2023-08-05drivers: iio: filter: admv8818: add bypass modeAntoniu Miclaus1-9/+56
Add filter bypass mode, which bypasses the low pass filter, high pass filter and disables/unregister the clock rate notifier. Currently a feature like bypassing the filter is not achievable straightforward and not very deductive. The user has to look through the code and call the set_lpf_3db_frequency and set_hpf_3db_frequency iio attributes from the user interface using the corner cases (freq > largest lpf supported by the part, respectively freq < smallest hpf supported by the part). Moreover, in such case of bypassing the filter, the input clock rate change might mess up things so we want to make sure that it is disabled. Also, the feature will help emphasizing the filter behavior, therefore adding it in the userspace will ease the charcaterization of the filter's effects when active/disabled. It was requested by users of the driver to ease the interaction with different configuration modes of the device. 2023-08-05iio: light: bd27008: Support BD27010 RGBMatti Vaittinen1-2/+311
The ROHM BU27010 is an RGBC sensor with a flickering detection FIFO. The RGBC+IR sensor functionality is largely similar to what the BU27008 has. There are some notable things though: - gain setting is once again new and exotic. Now, there is 6bit gain setting where 4 of the bits are common to all channels and 2 bits can be configured separately for each channel. The BU27010 has similar "1X on other channels vs 2X on IR when selector is 0x0" gain design as BU27008 had. So, we use same gain setting policy for BU27010 as we did for BU27008 - driver sets same gain selector for all channels but shows the gains separately for all channels so users can (at least in theory) detect this 1X vs 2X madness... - BU27010 has suffled all the control register bitfields to new addresses and bit positions while still keeping the register naming same. - Some more power/reset control is added. - FIFO for "flickering detection" is added. The control register suffling made this slightly nasty. Still, it is easier for maintenance perspective to add the BU27010 support in BU27008 driver because - even though the bit positions/addresses were changed - most of the driver structure can be re-used. Writing own driver for BU27010 would mean plenty of duplicate code albeit a tad more clarity. The flickering FIFO is not supported by the driver. Add BU27010 RGBC+IR support to rohm-bu27008 driver. 2023-08-01iio: cdc: ad7150: relax return value check for IRQ getMatti Vaittinen1-5/+5
fwnode_irq_get[_byname]() were changed to not return 0 anymore. The special error case where device-tree based IRQ mapping fails can't no longer be reliably detected from this return value. This yields a functional change in the driver where the mapping failure is treated as an error. The mapping failure can occur for example when the device-tree IRQ information translation call-back(s) (xlate) fail, IRQ domain is not found, IRQ type conflicts, etc. In most cases this indicates an error in the device-tree and special handling is not really required. One more thing to note is that ACPI APIs do not return zero for any failures so this special handling did only apply on device-tree based systems. Drop the special handling for DT mapping failures as these can no longer be separated from other errors at driver side. Change all failures in IRQ getting to be handled by continuing without the events instead of aborting the probe upon certain errors. In function size_from_channelarray(), the return value 'bytes' is defined as int type. However, the calcution of 'bytes' in this function is designed to use the unsigned int type. So it is necessary to change 'bytes' type to unsigned int to avoid integer overflow. The size_from_channelarray() is called in main() function, its return value is directly multipled by 'buf_len' and then used as the malloc() parameter. The 'buf_len' is completely controllable by user, thus a multiplication overflow may occur here. This could allocate an unexpected small area. 2023-07-23iio: adc: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring24-23/+17
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-07-23iio: Add event enums for running period and countWaqar Hameed3-0/+20
There are devices (such as Murata IRS-D200 PIR proximity sensor) that check the data signal with a running period. I.e. for a specified time, they count the number of conditions that have occurred, and then signal if that is more than a specified amount. `IIO_EV_INFO_PERIOD` resets when the condition no longer is true and is therefore not suitable for these devices. Add a new `iio_event_info` `IIO_EV_INFO_RUNNING_PERIOD` that can be used as a running period. Also add a new `IIO_EV_INFO_RUNNING_COUNT` that can be used to specify the number of conditions that must occur during this running period. Define and init voltage configuration bits. Those bits are inited in vendor boot code (bl2, bl33) already so do it in the driver to not depend on other code. Introduced bits: REG11[0] - selects Vref. 0 - calibration voltage, 1 - VDDA. txlx and later SoCs support VDDA or calibration voltage as Vref, but others support only calibration voltage. For newer platforms vendor uses VDDA as default. REG11[1] - reserved bit. g12a and later SoCs must write 1, others SoCs write 0. REG11[5] - Vref voltage. 0 - 0.9v, 1 - 1.8v. g12a and later SoCs must write 0, others SoCs write 1. REG11[6] - selects common-mode voltage, 0: from AVDD, 1: from Vref. g12a and later SoCs must write 0, others SoCs write 1. When processing data read the full fifo data in 1 time. If there are several samples in the FIFO, it means we are experiencing system delay. In this case, it is better to read all data with 1 bus access than to add additional latency by doing several ones. This requires to use a bigger buffer depending on chip FIFO size and do an additional local data copy before sending. But the cost is minimal and behavior is still better like this under system heavy load. Add read/write attribute for proximity and illuminance period. The period is set in the interrupt persistence flags(PS_PERS and ALS_PERS). An interrupt will not be asserted if the raw value is not over (or lower) than the threshold for the set continued amount of measurements. The time in seconds is calculated by the number of continued refreshes multiplied with the integration time. It will always pick the next lower possible value. The period changes, if the integration time is changed. When forking a child process, the parent write-protects anonymous pages and COW-shares them with the child being forked using copy_present_pte(). We must not take any concurrent page faults on the source vma's as they are being processed, as we expect both the vma and the pte's behind it to be stable. For example, the anon_vma_fork() expects the parents vma->anon_vma to not change during the vma copy. A concurrent page fault on a page newly marked read-only by the page copy might trigger wp_page_copy() and a anon_vma_prepare(vma) on the source vma, defeating the anon_vma_clone() that wasn't done because the parent vma originally didn't have an anon_vma, but we now might end up copying a pte entry for a page that has one. Before the per-vma lock based changes, the mmap_lock guaranteed exclusion with concurrent page faults. But now we need to do a vma_start_write() to make sure no concurrent faults happen on this vma while it is being processed. This fix can potentially regress some fork-heavy workloads. Kernel build time did not show noticeable regression on a 56-core machine while a stress test mapping 10000 VMAs and forking 5000 times in a tight loop shows ~5% regression. If such fork time regression is unacceptable, disabling CONFIG_PER_VMA_LOCK should restore its performance. Further optimizations are possible if this regression proves to be problematic. mmap_region adds a newly created VMA into VMA tree and might modify it afterwards before dropping the mmap_lock. This poses a problem for page faults handled under per-VMA locks because they don't take the mmap_lock and can stumble on this VMA while it's still being modified. Currently this does not pose a problem since post-addition modifications are done only for file-backed VMAs, which are not handled under per-VMA lock. However, once support for handling file-backed page faults with per-VMA locks is added, this will become a race. Fix this by write-locking the VMA before inserting it into the VMA tree. Other places where a new VMA is added into VMA tree do not modify it after the insertion, so do not need the same locking. 2023-07-08kasan, slub: fix HW_TAGS zeroing with slub_debugAndrey Konovalov2-14/+14
Commit 946fa0dbf2d8 ("mm/slub: extend redzone check to extra allocated kmalloc space than requested") added precise kmalloc redzone poisoning to the slub_debug functionality. However, this commit didn't account for HW_TAGS KASAN fully initializing the object via its built-in memory initialization feature. Even though HW_TAGS KASAN memory initialization contains special memory initialization handling for when slub_debug is enabled, it does not account for in-object slub_debug redzones. As a result, HW_TAGS KASAN can overwrite these redzones and cause false-positive slub_debug reports. To fix the issue, avoid HW_TAGS KASAN memory initialization when slub_debug is enabled altogether. Implement this by moving the __slub_debug_enabled check to slab_post_alloc_hook. Common slab code seems like a more appropriate place for a slub_debug check anyway. Commit bb6e04a173f0 ("kasan: use internal prototypes matching gcc-13 builtins") introduced a bug into the memory_is_poisoned_n implementation: it effectively removed the cast to a signed integer type after applying KASAN_GRANULE_MASK. As a result, KASAN started failing to properly check memset, memcpy, and other similar functions. Fix the bug by adding the cast back (through an additional signed integer variable to make the code more readable). While updating mailmap for the going-away address, I also found that on current systems the manpage linked from the header comment changed. And in fact it looks like the git mailmap feature got its own manpage. We got here due to a couple of bugs, each of which by itself was not quite enough to cause a problem: First of all, before commit c33c794828f2("mm: ptep_get() conversion"), the BUG() statement in huge_pte_alloc() was itself fragile: it relied upon compiler behavior to only read the pte once, despite using it twice in the same conditional. Next, commit c33c794828f2 ("mm: ptep_get() conversion") broke that delicate situation, by causing all direct pte reads to be done via READ_ONCE(). And so READ_ONCE() got called twice within the same BUG() conditional, leading to comparing (potentially, occasionally) different versions of the pte, and thus to false BUG() reports. Fix this by taking a single snapshot of the pte before using it in the BUG conditional. Now, that commit is only partially to blame here but, people doing bisections will invariably land there, so this will help them find a fix for a real crash. And also, the previous behavior was unlikely to ever expose this bug--it was fragile, yet not actually broken. So that's why I chose this commit for the Fixes tag, rather than the commit that created the original BUG() statement. 2023-07-08fork: lock VMAs of the parent process when forkingSuren Baghdasaryan1-0/+6
Patch series "Avoid memory corruption caused by per-VMA locks", v4. A memory corruption was reported in [1] with bisection pointing to the patch [2] enabling per-VMA locks for x86. Based on the reproducer provided in [1] we suspect this is caused by the lack of VMA locking while forking a child process. Patch 1/2 in the series implements proper VMA locking during fork. I tested the fix locally using the reproducer and was unable to reproduce the memory corruption problem. This fix can potentially regress some fork-heavy workloads. Kernel build time did not show noticeable regression on a 56-core machine while a stress test mapping 10000 VMAs and forking 5000 times in a tight loop shows ~7% regression. If such fork time regression is unacceptable, disabling CONFIG_PER_VMA_LOCK should restore its performance. Further optimizations are possible if this regression proves to be problematic. Patch 2/2 disables per-VMA locks until the fix is tested and verified. This patch (of 2): When forking a child process, parent write-protects an anonymous page and COW-shares it with the child being forked using copy_present_pte(). Parent's TLB is flushed right before we drop the parent's mmap_lock in dup_mmap(). If we get a write-fault before that TLB flush in the parent, and we end up replacing that anonymous page in the parent process in do_wp_page() (because, COW-shared with the child), this might lead to some stale writable TLB entries targeting the wrong (old) page. Similar issue happened in the past with userfaultfd (see flush_tlb_page() call inside do_wp_page()). Lock VMAs of the parent process when forking a child, which prevents concurrent page faults during fork operation and avoids this issue. This fix can potentially regress some fork-heavy workloads. pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() enables the device to send ERR_* Messages. Parking CPUs in INIT works well, except for the crash case when the CPU which invokes smp_park_other_cpus_in_init() is not the boot CPU. Sending INIT to the boot CPU resets the whole machine. Prevent this by validating that this runs on the boot CPU. If not fall back and let CPUs hang in HLT. 2023-07-06i2c: xiic: Don't try to handle more interrupt events after errorRobert Hancock1-0/+2
In xiic_process, it is possible that error events such as arbitration lost or TX error can be raised in conjunction with other interrupt flags such as TX FIFO empty or bus not busy. Error events result in the controller being reset and the error returned to the calling request, but the function could potentially try to keep handling the other events, such as by writing more messages into the TX FIFO. Since the transaction has already failed, this is not helpful and will just cause issues. This problem has been present ever since: commit 7f9906bd7f72 ("i2c: xiic: Service all interrupts in isr") which allowed non-error events to be handled after errors, but became more obvious after: commit 743e227a8959 ("i2c: xiic: Defer xiic_wakeup() and __xiic_start_xfer() in xiic_process()") which reworked the code to add a WARN_ON which triggers if both the xfer_more and wakeup_req flags were set, since this combination is not supposed to happen, but was occurring in this scenario. Skip further interrupt handling after error flags are detected to avoid this problem. 2023-07-06ALSA: jack: Fix mutex call in snd_jack_report()Takashi Iwai1-8/+7
snd_jack_report() is supposed to be callable from an IRQ context, too, and it's indeed used in that way from virtsnd driver. The fix for input_dev race in commit 1b6a6fc5280e ("ALSA: jack: Access input_dev under mutex"), however, introduced a mutex lock in snd_jack_report(), and this resulted in a potential sleep-in-atomic. For addressing that problem, this patch changes the relevant code to use the object get/put and removes the mutex usage. That is, snd_jack_report(), it takes input_get_device() and leaves with input_put_device() for assuring the input_dev being assigned. Although the whole mutex could be reduced, we keep it because it can be still a protection for potential races between creation and deletion. Since commit 2d47c6956ab3 ("ubsan: Tighten UBSAN_BOUNDS on GCC"), UBSAN_BOUNDS no longer pretends 1-element arrays are unbounded. Walking bmSublinkSpeedAttr will trigger a warning, so make it a proper flexible array. Add a union to keep the struct size identical for userspace in case anything was depending on the old size. 2023-07-05perf test: Fix event parsing test on ArmJames Clark1-1/+13
The test looks for a PMU from sysfs with type = PERF_TYPE_RAW when opening a raw event. Arm doesn't have a real raw PMU, only core PMUs with unique types other than raw. Instead of looking for a matching PMU, just test that the event type was parsed as raw and skip the PMU search on Arm. The raw event type test should also apply to all platforms so add it outside of the ifdef. The unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() function has no prototype on the sh architecture which does not include asm-generic/io.h. This results in the following build failure: drivers/char/mem.c: In function 'read_mem': drivers/char/mem.c:164:25: error: implicit declaration of function 'unxlate_dev_mem_ptr' This compile error is now seen because commit 99b619b37ae1 ("mips: provide unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() in asm/io.h") removed the weak function which was previously in place to handle this problem. Add a trivial macro to the sh header to provide the now missing dummy function. 2023-07-05sh: dma: Fix DMA channel offset calculationArtur Rojek1-13/+24
Various SoCs of the SH3, SH4 and SH4A family, which use this driver, feature a differing number of DMA channels, which can be distributed between up to two DMAC modules. The existing implementation fails to correctly accommodate for all those variations, resulting in wrong channel offset calculations and leading to kernel panics. Rewrite dma_base_addr() in order to properly calculate channel offsets in a DMAC module. Every compiler flag added by arch/sh/Makefile is passed to the compiler twice: $(KBUILD_CPPFLAGS) + $(KBUILD_CFLAGS) is used for compiling *.c $(KBUILD_CPPFLAGS) + $(KBUILD_AFLAGS) is used for compiling *.S Given the above, adding $(cflags-y) to all of KBUILD_{CPP/C/A}FLAGS ends up with duplication. Add -I options to $(KBUILD_CPPFLAGS), and the rest of $(cflags-y) to KBUILD_{C,A}FLAGS.
