Pull SCSI updates from James Bottomley:
"Updates to the usual drivers (ufs, lpfc, qla2xxx, mpi3mr, libsas).
The major update (which causes a conflict with block, see below) is
Christoph removing the queue limits and their associated block

Peter Griffin <peter.griffin@linaro.org> says:
Hi Martin, James & Alim,
This series adds support to the ufs-exynos driver for Tensor gs101
found in Pixel 6. It was send previously in [1] and [2] but included
the other clock, phy and DTS parts. This series has been split into
just the ufs-exynos part to hopefully make things easier.
With this series, plus the phy, clock and dts changes UFS is
functional upstream for Pixel 6. The SKhynix HN8T05BZGKX015 can be
enumerated, partitions mounted etc.
The series is split into some prepatory patches for ufs-exynos and a
final patch that adds the gs101 support.
Note the sysreg clock has been moved to ufs node as fine grained clock
control around the syscon sysreg register accesses doesn't result in
functional UFS.
regards,
Peter

Add a dedicated compatible and drv_data with associated hooks for gs101 SoC
found on Pixel 6.
Note we make use of the previously added EXYNOS_UFS_OPT_UFSPR_SECURE
option, to skip initialisation of UFSPR registers as these are only
accessible via SMC call.
EXYNOS_UFS_OPT_TIMER_TICK_SELECT option is also set to select tick
source. This has been done so as not to effect any existing platforms.
DBG_OPTION_SUITE on gs101 has different address offsets to other SoCs so
these register offsets now come from uic_attr struct.

Fix the calculation of the utrd pointer. This patch addresses the following
Coverity complaint:
CID 1538170: (#1 of 1): Extra sizeof expression (SIZEOF_MISMATCH)
suspicious_pointer_arithmetic: Adding sq_head_slot * 32UL /* sizeof (struct
utp_transfer_req_desc) */ to pointer hwq->sqe_base_addr of type struct
utp_transfer_req_desc * is suspicious because adding an integral value to
this pointer automatically scales that value by the size, 32 bytes, of the
pointed-to type, struct utp_transfer_req_desc. Most likely, the
multiplication by sizeof (struct utp_transfer_req_desc) in this expression
is extraneous and should be eliminated.

Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> says:
Hi all,
this series converts the SCSI midlayer and LLDDs to use atomic queue
limits API. It is pretty straight forward, except for the mpt3mr
driver which does really weird and probably already broken things by
setting limits from unlocked device iteration callbacks.
I will probably defer the (more complicated) ULD changes to the next
merge window as they would heavily conflict with Damien's zone write
plugging series. With that the series could go in through the SCSI
tree if Jens' ACKs the core block layer bits.

UFS spec version 2.1 was published more than 10 years ago. It is
vanishingly unlikely that even there are out there platforms that uses
earlier host controllers, let alone that those ancient platforms will ever
run a V6.10 kernel. To be extra cautious, leave out removal of UFSHCI 2.0
support from this patch, and just remove support of host controllers prior
to UFS2.0.
This patch removes some legacy tuning calls that no longer apply.

Andrew Halaney <ahalaney@redhat.com> says:
Please review with care as I'm not all that confident in this subject.
UFS has a lot of mb() variants used, most with comments saying "ensure
this takes effect before continuing". mb()'s aren't really the way to
guarantee that, a read back is the best method.
Some of these though I think could go a step further and remove the
mb() variant without a read back. As far as I can tell there's no real
reason to ensure it takes effect in most cases (there's no delay() or
anything afterwards, and eventually another readl()/writel() happens
which is by definition ordered). Some of the patches in this series do
that if I was confident it was safe (or a reviewer pointed out prior
that they thought it was safe to do so).
Thanks in advance for the help,
Andrew

Currently a wmb() is used to ensure that writes to the
UTP_TASK_REQ_LIST_BASE* regs are completed prior to following writes to
the run/stop registers.
wmb() ensures that the write completes, but completion doesn't mean that
it isn't stored in a buffer somewhere. The recommendation for
ensuring the bits have taken effect on the device is to perform a read
back to force it to make it all the way to the device. This is
documented in device-io.rst and a talk by Will Deacon on this can
be seen over here:
https://youtu.be/i6DayghhA8Q?si=MiyxB5cKJXSaoc01&t=1678
But, none of that is necessary here. All of the writel()/readl()'s here
are to the same endpoint, so they will be ordered. There's no subsequent
delay() etc that requires it to have taken effect already, so no
readback is necessary here.
For that reason just drop the wmb() altogether.

Currently, the doorbell is written to and a wmb() is used to commit it
immediately.
wmb() ensures that the write completes before following writes occur, but

https://youtu.be/i6DayghhA8Q?si=MiyxB5cKJXSaoc01&t=1678
But, completion and taking effect aren't necessary to guarantee here.
There's already other examples of the doorbell being rung that don't do
this. The writel() of the doorbell guarantees prior writes by this thread
(to the request being setup for example) complete prior to the ringing of
the doorbell, and the following wait_for_completion_io_timeout() doesn't
require any special memory barriers either.
With that in mind, just remove the wmb() altogether here.

Currently, the UIC_COMMAND_COMPL interrupt is disabled and a wmb() is used

Currently after writing to REG_UFS_SYS1CLK_1US a mb() is used to ensure
that write has gone through to the device.
mb() ensures that the write completes, but completion doesn't mean that it
isn't stored in a buffer somewhere. The recommendation for ensuring this
bit has taken effect on the device is to perform a read back to force it to
make it all the way to the device. This is documented in device-io.rst and
a talk by Will Deacon on this can be seen over here:
https://youtu.be/i6DayghhA8Q?si=MiyxB5cKJXSaoc01&t=1678
Let's do that to ensure the bit hits the device. Because the mb()'s purpose
wasn't to add extra ordering (on top of the ordering guaranteed by
writel()/readl()), it can safely be removed.

Currently, the reset bit for the UFS provided reset controller (used by its
phy) is written to, and then a mb() happens to try and ensure that hit the
device. Immediately afterwards a usleep_range() occurs.
mb() ensures that the write completes, but completion doesn't mean that it
isn't stored in a buffer somewhere. The recommendation for ensuring this
bit has taken effect on the device is to perform a read back to force it to
make it all the way to the device. This is documented in device-io.rst and

guaranteeing the ordering against the immediately following usleep_range(),
the mb() can safely be removed.

When wl suspend error occurs, for example BKOP or SSU timeout, the host
triggers an error handler and returns -EBUSY to break the wl suspend
process. However, it is possible for the runtime PM to enter wl suspend
again before the error handler has finished, and return -EINVAL because the
device is in an error state. To address this, ensure that the rumtime PM
waits for the error handler to finish, or trigger the error handler in such
cases, because returning -EINVAL can cause the I/O to hang.

Device management commands are constructed for query commands that are
being issued by the driver, but also for raw device management
commands originated by the bsg module, and recently, by the advanced

the command, composing the upiu etc., appear over and over. Remove
those duplications. Theoretically, there should be no functional

Pull MSI updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"Updates for the MSI interrupt subsystem and initial RISC-V MSI
support.
The core changes have been adopted from previous work which converted
ARM[64] to the new per device MSI domain model, which was merged to
support multiple MSI domain per device. The ARM[64] changes are being
worked on too, but have not been ready yet. The core and platform-MSI
changes have been split out to not hold up RISC-V and to avoid that
RISC-V builds on the scheduled for removal interfaces.
The core support provides new interfaces to handle wire to MSI bridges
in a straight forward way and introduces new platform-MSI interfaces
which are built on top of the per device MSI domain model.
Once ARM[64] is converted over the old platform-MSI interfaces and the
related ugliness in the MSI core code will be removed.
The actual MSI parts for RISC-V were finalized late and have been
post-poned for the next merge window.
Drivers:
- Add a new driver for the Andes hart-level interrupt controller
- Rework the SiFive PLIC driver to prepare for MSI suport
- Expand the RISC-V INTC driver to support the new RISC-V AIA

Pass a queue_limits to blk_mq_init_queue and apply it if non-NULL. This
will allow allocating queues with valid queue limits instead of setting
the values one at a time later.
Also rename the function to blk_mq_alloc_queue as that is a much better
name for a function that allocates a queue and always pass the queuedata
argument instead of having a separate version for the extra argument.

On sa8775p-ride, probing the HBA will go through the
UFSHCD_QUIRK_REINIT_AFTER_MAX_GEAR_SWITCH path although the power info is
the same during the second init.
The REINIT quirk only applies starting with controller v4. For these,
ufs_qcom_get_hs_gear() reads the highest supported gear when setting the
host_params. After the negotiation, if the host and device are on the same
gear, it is the highest gear supported between the two. Skip REINIT to save

The comments that currently are within the hw_ver < 4 conditional are
misleading. They really apply to various branches of the conditionals there
and incorrectly state that the phy_gear value can increase.
Right now the logic is to:
- Default to max supported gear for phy_gear
- Set phy_gear to minimum value if version < 4 since those versions only
support one PHY init sequence (and therefore don't need reinit)
- Set phy_gear to the optimal value if the device version is already
populated in the controller registers on boot
Let's move some of the comment to outside the if statement and clean up the
bit left about switching to a higher gear on reinit. This way the comment
more accurately reflects the logic.

Bean Huo <beanhuo@iokpp.de> says:
Adding RTC support for embedded storage device UFS in its driver, it
is important for a few key reasons:
1. Helps with Regular Maintenance:
The RTC provides a basic way to keep track of time, making it useful for
scheduling routine maintenance tasks in the storage device. This includes
things like making sure data is spread
evenly across the storage to extend its life.
2. Figuring Out How Old Data Is:
The RTC helps the device estimate how long ago certain parts of the storage
were last used. This is handy for deciding when to do maintenance tasks to
keep the storage working well over time.
3. Making Devices Last Longer:
By using the RTC for regular upkeep, we can make sure the storage device lasts
longer and stays reliable. This is especially important for devices that need
to work well for a long time.
4.Fitting In with Other Devices:
The inclusion of RTC support aligns with existing UFS specifications (starting
from UFS Spec 2.0) and is consistent with the prevalent industry practice. Many
UFS devices currently on the market utilize RTC for internal timekeeping. By
ensuring compatibility with this widely adopted standard, the embedded storage
device becomes seamlessly integrable with existing hardware and software
ecosystems, reducing the risk of compatibility issues.
In short, adding RTC support to embedded storage device UFS helps with regular
upkeep, extends the device's life, ensures compatibility, and keeps everything
running smoothly with the rest of the system.

Add Real Time Clock (RTC) support for UFS device. This enhancement is
crucial for the internal maintenance operations of the UFS device. The
patch enables the device to handle both absolute and relative time
information. Furthermore, it includes periodic task to update the RTC in
accordance with the UFS Spec, ensuring the accuracy of RTC information for
the device's internal processes.
RTC and qTimestamp serve distinct purposes. The RTC provides a coarse level
of granularity with, at best, approximate single-second resolution. This
makes the RTC well-suited for the device to determine the approximate age
of programmed blocks after being updated by the host. On the other hand,
qTimestamp offers nanosecond granularity and is specifically designed for
synchronizing Device Error Log entries with corresponding host-side logs.
Given that the RTC has been a standard feature since UFS Spec 2.0, and
qTimestamp was introduced in UFS Spec 4.0, the majority of UFS devices
currently on the market rely on RTC. Therefore, it is advisable to continue
supporting RTC in the Linux kernel. This ensures compatibility with the
prevailing UFS device implementations and facilitates seamless integration
with existing hardware. By maintaining support for RTC, we ensure broad
compatibility and avoid potential issues arising from deviations in device
specifications across different UFS versions.

In both the functions, UFS_PHY_SOFT_RESET contains the mask of the reset
bit. So this can be passed directly as the value to be written for
asserting the reset. For deasserting, 0 can be passed.
This gets rid of the FIELD_PREP() inside these functions and also
UFS_PHY_RESET_{ENABLE/DISABLE} definitions.

Can Guo <quic_cang@quicinc.com> says:

This series is rebased on below changes from Mani -

https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-scsi/patch/20230908145329.154024-2-manivannan.sadhasivam@linaro.org/
This series is tested on below HW combinations -
SM8550 MTP + UFS4.0
SM8550 QRD + UFS3.1
SM8450 MTP + UFS3.1 (for regression test)
SM8350 MTP + UFS3.1 (for regression test)
Note that during reboot test on above platforms, I occasinally hit
PA (PHY) error during the 2nd init, this is not related with this
series. A fix for this is mentioned in below patchwork -
https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-scsi/patch/1698145815-17396-1-git-send-email-quic_ziqichen@quicinc.com/
Also note that on platforms, which have two sets of UFS PHY settings
are provided (say G4 and no-G4, G5 and no-G5). The two sets of PHY
settings are basically programming different values to different
registers, mixing the two sets and/or overwriting one set with another
set is definitely not blessed by UFS PHY designers. For SM8550, this
series will make sure we honor the rule. However, for old targets Mani
and I will fix them in another series in future.

Start from HW ver 5, a spare register in UFS host controller is added and
used to indicate the UFS device version. The spare register is populated by
bootloader for now, but in future it will be populated by HW automatically
during link startup with its best efforts in any boot stage prior to Linux.
During host driver init, read the spare register, if it is not populated
with a UFS device version, go ahead with the dual init mechanism. If a UFS
device version is in there, use the UFS device version together with host
controller's HW version to decide the proper PHY gear which should be used
to configure the UFS PHY without going through the second init.

During host driver init, the phy_gear is set to the minimum supported gear
(HS_G2). Then, during the first power mode change, the negotiated gear, say
HS-G4, is updated to the phy_gear variable so that in the second init the
updated phy_gear can be used to program the PHY.
But the current code only allows update the phy_gear to a higher value. If
one wants to start the first init with the maximum support gear, say HS-G4,
the phy_gear is not updated to HS-G3 if the device only supports HS-G3.
The original check added there is intend to make sure the phy_gear won't be
updated when gear is scaled down (during clock scaling). Update the check
so that one can start the first init with the maximum support gear without
breaking the original fix by checking the ufshcd_state, that is, allow
update to phy_gear only if power mode change is invoked from
ufshcd_probe_hba().

Structure ufs_dev_params is actually used in UFS host drivers to declare
host specific power mode parameters, like ufs_<vendor>_params or host_cap,
which makes the code not very straightforward to read. Rename the structure

to host_params.
In addition, rename the two functions ufshcd_init_pwr_dev_param() and

OPP support added by commit 72208ebe181e ("scsi: ufs: core: Add support for
parsing OPP") doesn't update the min_freq and max_freq of each clock in
'struct ufs_clk_info'.
But these values are used by the host drivers internally for controller
configuration. When the OPP support is enabled in devicetree, these values
will be 0, causing boot issues on the respective platforms.
So add support to parse the min_freq and max_freq of all clocks while
parsing the OPP table.

The UFS driver has two driver-specific fault injection mechanisms
(trigger_eh and timeout). Each fault injection configuration can only be
specified by a module parameter and cannot be reconfigured without
reloading the driver. Also, each configuration is common to all HBAs.
This change adds the following subdirectories for each UFS HBA when
debugfs is enabled:
/sys/kernel/debug/ufshcd/<HBA>/timeout_inject
/sys/kernel/debug/ufshcd/<HBA>/trigger_eh_inject
Each fault injection attribute can be dynamically set per HBA by a
corresponding file in these directories.
This is tested with QEMU UFS devices.

utf16s_to_utf8s does not NULL terminate the output string. For us to be
able to add a NULL character when utf16s_to_utf8s returns, we need to make
sure that there is space for such NULL character at the end of the output
buffer. We can achieve this by passing an output buffer size to
utf16s_to_utf8s that is one character less than what we allocated.
Other call sites of utf16s_to_utf8s appear to be using the same technique
where they artificially reduce the buffer size by one to leave space for a
NULL character or line feed character.

OPP framework can be used to scale the clocks along with other entities
such as regulators, performance state etc... So let's add support for
parsing OPP from devicetree. OPP support in devicetree is added through the
"operating-points-v2" property which accepts the OPP table defining clock
frequency, regulator voltage, power domain performance state etc...
Since the UFS controller requires multiple clocks to be controlled for
proper working, devm_pm_opp_set_config() has been used which supports
scaling multiple clocks through custom ufshcd_opp_config_clks() callback.
It should be noted that the OPP support is not compatible with the old
"freq-table-hz" property. So only one can be used at a time even though
the UFS core supports both.

UFS core is only scaling the clocks during devfreq scaling and
initialization. But for an optimum power saving, regulators should also be
scaled along with the clocks.
So let's use the OPP framework which supports scaling clocks, regulators,
and performance state using OPP table defined in devicetree. For
accomodating the OPP support, the existing APIs (ufshcd_scale_clks,
ufshcd_is_devfreq_scaling_required and ufshcd_devfreq_scale) are modified
to accept "freq" as an argument which in turn used by the OPP helpers.
The OPP support is added along with the old freq-table based clock scaling
so that the existing platforms work as expected.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from
emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To
improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In
the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new()
which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted,
.remove_new() is renamed to .remove().
All platform drivers below drivers/ufs/ unconditionally return zero in
their remove callback and so can be converted trivially to the variant
returning void.

The "hs_gear" variable is used to program the PHY settings (submode) during
ufs_qcom_power_up_sequence(). Currently, it is being updated every time the
agreed gear changes. Due to this, if the gear got downscaled before suspend
(runtime/system), then while resuming, the PHY settings for the lower gear
will be applied first and later when scaling to max gear with REINIT, the
PHY settings for the max gear will be applied.
This adds a latency while resuming and also really not needed as the PHY
gear settings are backwards compatible i.e., we can continue using the PHY
settings for max gear with lower gear speed.
So let's update the "hs_gear" variable _only_ when the agreed gear is
greater than the current one. This guarantees that the PHY settings will be
changed only during probe time and fatal error condition.
Due to this, UFSHCD_QUIRK_REINIT_AFTER_MAX_GEAR_SWITCH can now be skipped
when the PM operation is in progress.

Qualcomm UFS Controller V4 and above supports multiple unipro frequencies

supports only 150MHz and 75MHz which have performance impact due to low UFS
controller frequencies.

With auto hibern8 enabled, UIC could be busy processing a hibern8 operation
and the HCI would reports UIC not ready for a short while through
HCS.UCRDY. The UFS driver doesn't currently handle this situation. The
UFSHCI spec specifies UCRDY like this: whether the host controller is ready
to process UIC COMMAND
The 'ready' could be seen as many different meanings. If the meaning
includes not processing any request from HCI, processing a hibern8
operation can be 'not ready'. In this situation, the driver needs to wait
until the operations is completed.

EHS length in UTRD
According to UFSHCI 4.0 specification:
5.2 Host Controller Capabilities Registers
5.2.1 Offset 00h: CAP – Controller Capabilities:
"EHS Length in UTRD Supported (EHSLUTRDS): Indicates whether the host
controller supports EHS Length field in UTRD.

1 – HW controller takes EHS length from UTRD, and SW driver use EHS

NOTE Recommend Host controllers move to taking EHS length from UTRD, and

Qcom SoCs require scaling the interconnect paths for proper working of the
peripherals connected through interconnects. Even for accessing the UFS
controller, someone should setup the interconnect paths. So far, the
bootloaders used to setup the interconnect paths before booting Linux as
they need to access the UFS storage for things like fetching boot firmware.
But with the advent of multi boot options, bootloader nowadays like in
SA8540p SoC do not setup the interconnect paths at all.
So trying to configure UFS in the absence of the interconnect path
configuration results in a boot crash.
To fix this issue, and also to dynamically scale the interconnects (UFS-DDR
and CPU-UFS), interconnect API support is added to the Qcom UFS driver.
With this support, the interconnect paths are scaled dynamically based on
the gear configuration.
During the early stage of ufs_qcom_init(), ufs_qcom_icc_init() will setup
the paths to max bandwidth to allow configuring the UFS registers. Touching
the registers without configuring the icc paths would result in a crash.
However, we don't really need to set max vote for the icc paths as any
minimal vote would suffice. But the max value would allow initialization to
be done faster. After init, the bandwidth will get updated using
ufs_qcom_icc_update_bw() based on the gear and lane configuration.
The bandwidth values defined in ufs_qcom_bw_table struct are taken from
Qcom downstream vendor devicetree source and are calculated as per the
UFS3.1 Spec, Section 6.4.1, HS Gear Rates. So it is fixed across platforms.

Devfreq uses the default DEVFREQ_TIMER_DEFERRABLE mode which uses the
deferred timer for scheduling the devfreq load monitor function. This
causes the load monitoring to be done only with non-idle CPUs and not
making use of the idle CPUs.
Hence, use the DEVFREQ_TIMER_DELAYED mode which uses the delayed timer
thereby making use of idle CPUs as well for load monitoring.

The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As
part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily"
include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a
result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used
throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the
implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly
include the correct includes.

if we assume IRQ numbers are consecutive. Fix this by passing msi_desc to

The new qTimestamp attribute was added to UFS 4.0 spec, in order to
synchronize timestamp between device logs and the host. The spec recommends
to send this attribute upon device power-on Reset/HW reset or when
switching to Active state (using SSU command). Due to this attribute, the
attribute's max value was extended to 8 bytes. As a result, the new
definition of struct utp_upiu_query_v4_0 was added.
