Now that the driver core can properly handle constant struct bus_type,
move the make intc_subsys variable to be a constant structure as well,
placing it into read-only memory which can not be modified at runtime.

There is no need to export maple_bus_type as no one uses it outside of

The superhyway bus driver was only referenced on SH4-202, which is now gone,
so remove it all as well.
I could find no trace of anything ever calling superhyway_register_driver(),
not in the git history but also not on the web, so I assume this has never
served any purpose on mainline kernels.

sh: clk: Fix clk_enable() to return 0 on NULL clk
sh: intc: Avoid spurious sizeof-pointer-div warning
|
|
On SH, devm_clk_get_optional_enabled() fails with -EINVAL if the clock
is not found. This happens because __devm_clk_get() assumes it can pass
a NULL clock pointer (as returned by clk_get_optional()) to the init()
function (clk_prepare_enable() in this case), while the SH
implementation of clk_enable() considers that an error.
Fix this by making the SH clk_enable() implementation return zero
instead, like the Common Clock Framework does.

The driver core recently changed the uevent bus callback to take a const
pointer, and the maple_bus_uevent() was not correctly fixed up. Instead
of fixing the function parameter types, just remove the callback
entirely as it does not do anything, so it is not necessary.

Some architectures and irqchip drivers modify the cpumask returned by
irq_data_get_affinity_mask, usually by copying in to it. This is
problematic for uniprocessor configurations, where the affinity mask
should be constant, as it is known at compile time.
Add and use a setter for the affinity mask, following the pattern of
irq_data_update_effective_affinity. This allows the getter function to
return a const cpumask pointer.

The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.
This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.
With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.

Pull irq updates from Thomas Gleixner:
"The usual updates from the irq departement:
Core changes:
- Provide IRQF_NO_AUTOEN as a flag for request*_irq() so drivers can
be cleaned up which either use a seperate mechanism to prevent
auto-enable at request time or have a racy mechanism which disables
the interrupt right after request.
- Get rid of the last usage of irq_create_identity_mapping() and
remove the interface.
- An overhaul of tasklet_disable().
Most usage sites of tasklet_disable() are in task context and
usually in cleanup, teardown code pathes. tasklet_disable()
spinwaits for a tasklet which is currently executed. That's not
only a problem for PREEMPT_RT where this can lead to a live lock
when the disabling task preempts the softirq thread. It's also
problematic in context of virtualization when the vCPU which runs
the tasklet is scheduled out and the disabling code has to spin
wait until it's scheduled back in.
There are a few code pathes which invoke tasklet_disable() from
non-sleepable context. For these a new disable variant which still
spinwaits is provided which allows to switch tasklet_disable() to a
sleep wait mechanism. For the atomic use cases this does not solve
the live lock issue on PREEMPT_RT. That is mitigated by blocking on
the RT specific softirq lock.
- The PREEMPT_RT specific implementation of softirq processing and
local_bh_disable/enable().
On RT enabled kernels soft interrupt processing happens always in
task context and all interrupt handlers, which are not explicitly
marked to be invoked in hard interrupt context are forced into task
context as well. This allows to protect against softirq processing
with a per CPU lock, which in turn allows to make BH disabled
regions preemptible.
Most of the softirq handling code is still shared. The RT/non-RT
specific differences are addressed with a set of inline functions
which provide the context specific functionality. The
local_bh_disable() / local_bh_enable() mechanism are obviously
seperate.
- The usual set of small improvements and cleanups
Driver changes:
- New drivers for Nuvoton WPCM450 and DT 79rc3243x interrupt
controllers
- Extended functionality for MStar, STM32 and SC7280 irq chips
- Enhanced robustness for ARM GICv3/4.1 drivers
- The usual set of cleanups and improvements all over the place"

Patch series "iomap: Constify ioreadX() iomem argument", v3.
The ioread8/16/32() and others have inconsistent interface among the
architectures: some taking address as const, some not.
It seems there is nothing really stopping all of them to take pointer to
const.
This patch (of 4):
The ioreadX() and ioreadX_rep() helpers have inconsistent interface. On
some architectures void *__iomem address argument is a pointer to const,
on some not.
Implementations of ioreadX() do not modify the memory under the address so
they can be converted to a "const" version for const-safety and
consistency among architectures.

The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This
patch replaces cases of:
kzalloc(a * b, gfp)
with:
kcalloc(a * b, gfp)
as well as handling cases of:
kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp)
with:
kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)
as it's slightly less ugly than:
kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)
This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:
kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)
though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.
Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.
The Coccinelle script used for this was:

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

sh does not implement DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT allocations, so it doesn't
make any sense to do any work in dma_cache_sync given that it
must be a no-op when dma_alloc_attrs returns coherent memory.
On the other hand sh uses dma_cache_sync internally in the dma_ops
implementation and for the maple bus that does not use the DMA API,
so a the old functionality for dma_cache_sync is still provided under
the name sh_sync_dma_for_device, and without the redundant dev
argument. While at it two of the syncing dma_ops also go the proper

The bug in khugepaged fixed earlier in this series shows that radix tree
slot replacement is fragile; and it will become more so when not only
NULL<->!NULL transitions need to be caught but transitions from and to
exceptional entries as well. We need checks.
Re-implement radix_tree_replace_slot() on top of the sanity-checked
__radix_tree_replace(). This requires existing callers to also pass the
radix tree root, but it'll warn us when somebody replaces slots with
contents that need proper accounting (transitions between NULL entries,
real entries, exceptional entries) and where a replacement through the
slot pointer would corrupt the radix tree node counts.

set_irq_flags is ARM specific with custom flags which have genirq
equivalents. Convert drivers to use the genirq interfaces directly, so we
can kill off set_irq_flags. The translation of flags is as follows:
IRQF_VALID -> !IRQ_NOREQUEST
IRQF_PROBE -> !IRQ_NOPROBE
IRQF_NOAUTOEN -> IRQ_NOAUTOEN
For IRQs managed by an irqdomain, the irqdomain core code handles clearing
and setting IRQ_NOREQUEST already, so there is no need to do this in
.map() functions and we can simply remove the set_irq_flags calls. Some
users also modify IRQ_NOPROBE and this has been maintained although it
is not clear that is really needed. There appears to be a great deal of
blind copy and paste of this code.

If the default PM Domain using PM_CLK is used for PM runtime, the real
Clock Domain cannot be registered from DT later.
Hence do not enable it when running a multi-platform kernel with genpd
support on R-Car or RZ. The CPG/MSTP Clock Domain driver will take care
of PM runtime management of the module clocks.
Now most multi-platform ARM shmobile platforms (SH-Mobile, R-Mobile,
R-Car, RZ) use DT-based PM Domains to take care of PM runtime management
of the module clocks, simplify the platform logic by replacing the
explicit SoC checks by a single check for the presence of MSTP clocks in
DT.
Backwards-compatiblity with old DTs (mainly for R-Car Gen2) is provided
by checking for the presence of a "#power-domain-cells" property in DT.
The default PM Domain is still needed for:
- backwards-compatibility with old DTs that lack PM Domain properties,
- the CONFIG_PM=n case,
- legacy (non-DT) ARM/shmobile platforms without genpd support
(r8a7778, r8a7779),
- legacy SuperH.

"This contains:
- a series of fixes for interrupt drivers to prevent a potential race
when installing a chained interrupt handler
- a fix for cpumask pointer misuse
- a fix for using the wrong interrupt number from struct irq_data
- removal of unused code and outdated comments
- a few new helper functions which allow us to cleanup the interrupt
handling code further in 4.3
I decided against doing the cleanup at the end of this merge window
and rather do the preparatory steps for 4.3, so we can run the final
ABI change at the end of the 4.3 merge window with less risk"

If the default PM domain using PM_CLK is used for PM runtime, the real PM

Hence do not enable it when running a multi-platform kernel with genpd

If we override the platform bus calls for pm_runtime then we end up
with the calls to the devices' suspend and resume methods ignored
in favour of the bus ones.
Change to calling the pm_runtime calls to suspend and resume the
devices specifically in the drivers/sh/pm_runtime.c implementation
to allow any device that may want to run power management to do so.
Note, all the current sh driver implementations do not use their
own power management code so this is not a major implementation
issues.
This also brings the implementation into line with the versions
used by the Davinci and Keystone PM domain code, so once fully
tested these implementations could be merged together.

If the kernel is built to support multi-ARM configuration with shmobile
support built in, then drivers/sh is not built. This contains the PM
runtime code in drivers/sh/pm_runtime.c, which implicitly enables the
module clocks for all devices, and thus is quite essential.
Without this, the state of clocks depends on implicit reset state, or on
the bootloader.
If ARCH_SHMOBILE_MULTI then build the drivers/sh directory, but ensure that
bits that may conflict (drivers/sh/clk if the common clock framework is
enabled) or are not used (drivers/sh/intc), are not built.
Also, only enable the PM runtime code when actually running on a shmobile
SoCs that needs it.
ARCH_SHMOBILE_MULTI was added a while ago by commit
efacfce5f8a523457e9419a25d52fe39db00b26a ("ARM: shmobile: Introduce
ARCH_SHMOBILE_MULTI"), but drivers/sh was compiled for both
ARCH_SHMOBILE_LEGACY and ARCH_SHMOBILE_MULTI until commit

The "index" field of struct cpufreq_frequency_table was never an
index and isn't used at all by the cpufreq core. It only is useful
for cpufreq drivers for their internal purposes.
Many people nowadays blindly set it in ascending order with the
assumption that the core will use it, which is a mistake.

The "runtime idle" helper routine, rpm_idle(), currently ignores
return values from .runtime_idle() callbacks executed by it.
However, it turns out that many subsystems use
pm_generic_runtime_idle() which checks the return value of the
driver's callback and executes pm_runtime_suspend() for the device
unless that value is not 0. If that logic is moved to rpm_idle()
instead, pm_generic_runtime_idle() can be dropped and its users
will not need any .runtime_idle() callbacks any more.
Moreover, the PCI, SCSI, and SATA subsystems' .runtime_idle()
routines, pci_pm_runtime_idle(), scsi_runtime_idle(), and
ata_port_runtime_idle(), respectively, as well as a few drivers'
ones may be simplified if rpm_idle() calls rpm_suspend() after 0 has
been returned by the .runtime_idle() callback executed by it.
To reduce overall code bloat, make the changes described above.

From Simon Horman. Based on agreement between me, Paul Mundt, Linus
Walleij and Simon, we're mergning this large branch of pinctrl conversion

mostly be broken) between the arch/sh and mach-shmobile implementations.
There will be more of this in 3.10 to do device-tree bindings, but this is

Pull ARM soc multiplatform enablement from Olof Johansson:
"This is a pretty significant branch. It's the introduction of the
first multiplatform support on ARM, and with this (and the later
branch) merged, it is now possible to build one kernel that contains
support for highbank, vexpress, mvebu, socfpga, and picoxcell. More
platforms will be convered over in the next few releases.
Two critical last things had to be done for this to be practical and
possible:
* Today each platform has its own include directory under
mach-<mach>/include/mach/*, and traditionally that is where a lot
of driver/platform shared definitions have gone, such as platform
data structures. They now need to move out to a common location
instead, and this branch moves a large number of those out to
include/linux/platform_data.
* Each platform used to list the device trees to compile for its
boards in mach-<mach>/Makefile.boot.
Both of the above changes will mean that there are some merge
conflicts to come (and some to resolve here). It's a one-time move
and once it settles in, we should be good for quite a while. Sorry
for the overhead."

Some drivers need to switch pin states between GPIO and pin function at
runtime, which was inadvertently broken in the pinctrl driver for GPIOs
being bound to a specific direction.
This fixes up the request path to ensure that previously configured GPIOs
don't cause us to inadvertently error out with an unsupported mux on
reconfig, which in practice is primarily aimed at trapping pull-up/down
users that have yet to be implemented under the new API.
Fixes up regressions in the TPU PWM driver, amongst others.

In the multi-evt case we were accidentally associating the parent IRQ,

Presently it's assumed that the irqdomain code handles the irq_desc
allocation for us, but this isn't necessarily the case when we've
pre-allocated IRQs via sparseirq. Previously we had a -EEXIST check in
the code that attempted to trap these cases and simply update them
in-place, but this behaviour was inadvertently lost in the transition to
irqdomains.
This simply restores the previous behaviour, first attempting to let the
irqdomain core fetch the allocation for us, and falling back to an
in-place domain association in the extant IRQ case. Fixes up regressions
on platforms that pre-allocate legacy IRQs (specifically ARM-based
SH-Mobile platforms, as SH stopped pre-allocating vectors some time ago).

Commit ca5481c68e9fbcea62bb3c78ae6cccf99ca8fb73 ("sh: pfc: Rudimentary
pinctrl-backed GPIO support.") introduced a regression for platforms that
were doing early GPIO API calls (from arch_initcall() or earlier),
leading to a situation where our two-stage registration logic would trip
itself up and we'd -ENODEV out of the pinctrl registration path,
resulting in endless -EPROBE_DEFER errors. Further lack of checking any
sort of errors from gpio_request() resulted in boot time warnings,
tripping on the FLAG_REQUESTED test-and-set in gpio_ensure_requested().
As it turns out there's no particular need to bother with the two-stage
registration, as the platform bus is already available at the point that
we have to start caring. As such, it's easiest to simply fold these
together in to a single init path, the ordering of which is ensured
through the platform's mux registration, as usual.

This maps out all of the function types to pinctrl function groups.

compatability with legacy behaviour. This will be extended as groups
are introduced and exiting users migrated.

This begins the migration of the PFC core to the pinctrl subsystem.
Initial support is very basic, with the bulk of the implementation simply
being nopped out in such a way to allow registration with the pinctrl
core to succeed.
The gpio chip driver is stripped down considerably now relying purely on
pinctrl API calls to manage the bulk of its operations.
This provides a basis for further PFC refactoring, including decoupling
pin functions from the GPIO API, establishing pin groups, and so forth.
These will all be dealt with incrementally so as to introduce as few
growing and migratory pains to tree-wide PFC pinmux users today.
When the interfaces have been well established and in-tree users have
been migrated off of the legacy interfaces it will be possible to strip
down the core considerably, leading to eventual drivers/pinctrl rehoming.

The encoding is tightly packed, and future changes (such as
pinconf-generic support) can easily lead to a situation where we violate

fit.

This implements a bit of rework for the PFC code, making the core itself
slightly more pluggable and moving out the gpio chip handling completely.
The API is preserved in such a way that platforms that depend on it for
early configuration are still able to do so, while making it possible to
migrate to alternate interfaces going forward.
This is the first step of chainsawing necessary to support the pinctrl
API, with the eventual goal being able to decouple pin function state
from the gpio API while retaining gpio chip tie-in for gpio pin functions
only, relying on the pinctrl/pinmux API for non-gpio function demux.

At present reserving the IRLs in the IRQ bitmap in addition to the
dropping of the legacy IRQ pre-allocation prevent IRL IRQs from being
allocated for the x3proto board.
The only reason to permit reservations was to lock down possible hardware
vectors prior to dynamic IRQ scanning, but this doesn't matter much given
that the hardware controller configuration is sorted before we get around
to doing any dynamic IRQ allocation anyways. Beyond that, all of the
tables are __init annotated, so quite a bit more work would need to be
done to support reconfiguring things like IRL controllers on the fly,
much more than would ever make it worth the hassle.

Fix up trivial conflict in fs/xfs/xfs_buf.c due to removal of unused
XBT_FORCE_SLEEP bit
|
|
This resolves the conflict in the arch/arm/mach-s3c64xx/s3c6400.c file,
and it fixes the build error in the arch/x86/kernel/microcode_core.c
file, that the merge did not catch.
The microcode_core.c patch was provided by Stephen Rothwell
<sfr@canb.auug.org.au> who was invaluable in the merge issues involved
with the large sysdev removal process in the driver-core tree.

Since the SH7372's INTCS in included into syscore suspend/resume,
which causes the chip to be accessed when PM domains have been
turned off during system suspend, the A4R domain containing the
INTCS has to stay on during system sleep, which is suboptimal
from the power consumption point of view.
For this reason, add a new INTC flag, skip_syscore_suspend, to mark
the INTCS for intc_suspend() and intc_resume(), so that they don't
touch it. This allows the A4R domain to be turned off during
system suspend and the INTCS state is resrored during system
resume by the A4R's "power on" code.

Add support for non-entity mapped PFC registers through
the use of struct resource and ioremap()/iounmap().
The PFC main data structure gets updated with a pointer
to a struct resources array that point out all register
windows used by the PFC instance. The register definitions
are kept as physical addresses but the PFC code will do
transparent conversion into virtual addresses whenever
register windows are specified using with struct resource.
To introduce as little performance penalty as possible the
virtual address of each data register is cached in memory.
The virtual address of each configuration register is however
calculated during run time. This because the configuration
is considered slow path so focus is instead put on keeping
memory foot print as small as possible.
The PFC register access code is in this patch updated from
__raw_readN() / __raw_writeN() into ioreadN() / iowriteN().
This patch is needed to support the PFC block in r8a7779.

The runtime PM platform support stub in use by ARM-based SH/R-Mobile
platforms contains nothing that's specifically ARM-related and instead of
wholly generic to anything using the clock framework.
The recent runtime PM changes interact rather badly with the lazy
disabling of clocks late in the boot process through the clock framework,
leading to situations where the runtime suspend/resume paths are entered
without a clock being actively driven due to having been lazily gated
off.
In order to correct this we can trivially tie in the aforementioned stub
as a general fallback for all SH platforms that don't presently have
their own runtime PM implementations (the corner case being SH-based
SH-Mobile platforms, which have their own stub through the hwblk API --
which in turn has bitrotted and will be subsequently adapted to use the
same stub as everyone else), regardless of whether the platforms choose
to define power domains of their own or not.
This fixes up regressions for clock framework users who also build in
runtime PM support without any specific power domains of their own, which
was previously causing the serial console to be lost when warring with
lazy clock disabling.

This V2 patch changes the clock disabling behavior during boot.
Two different changes are made:
1) Delay disabling of clocks until late in the boot process.
This fixes an existing issue where in-use clocks without
software reference are disabled by mistake during boot.
One example of this is the handling of the Mackerel serial
console output that shares clock with the I2C controller.
2) Write out the "disabled" state to the hardware for clocks
that not have been used by the kernel. In other words,
make sure so far unused clocks actually get turned off.
