Pull more s390 updates from Alexander Gordeev:
- Switch read and write software bits for PUDs
- Add missing hardware bits for PUDs and PMDs
- Generate unwind information for C modules to fix GDB unwind error for
vDSO functions
- Create .build-id links for unstripped vDSO files to enable vDSO
debugging with symbols
- Use standard stack frame layout for vDSO generated stack frames to
manually walk stack frames without DWARF information
- Rework perf_callchain_user() and arch_stack_walk_user() functions to
reduce code duplication
- Skip first stack frame when walking user stack
- Add basic checks to identify invalid instruction pointers when
walking stack frames
- Introduce and use struct stack_frame_vdso_wrapper within vDSO user
wrapper code to automatically generate an asm-offset define. Also use
STACK_FRAME_USER_OVERHEAD instead of STACK_FRAME_OVERHEAD to document
that the code works with user space stack
- Clear the backchain of the extra stack frame added by the vDSO user
wrapper code. This allows the user stack walker to detect and skip
the non-standard stack frame. Without this an incorrect instruction
pointer would be added to stack traces.
- Rewrite psw_idle() function in C to ease maintenance and further
enhancements
- Remove get_vtimer() function and use get_cpu_timer() instead
- Mark psw variable in __load_psw_mask() as __unitialized to avoid
superfluous clearing of PSW
- Remove obsolete and superfluous comment about removed TIF_FPU flag
- Replace memzero_explicit() and kfree() with kfree_sensitive() to fix
warnings reported by Coccinelle
- Wipe sensitive data and all copies of protected- or secure-keys from
stack when an IOCTL fails
- Both do_airq_interrupt() and do_io_interrupt() functions set
CIF_NOHZ_DELAY flag. Move it in do_io_irq() to simplify the code
- Provide iucv_alloc_device() and iucv_release_device() helpers, which
can be used to deduplicate more or less identical IUCV device
allocation and release code in four different drivers
- Make use of iucv_alloc_device() and iucv_release_device() helpers to
get rid of quite some code and also remove a cast to an incompatible
function (clang W=1)
- There is no user of iucv_root outside of the core IUCV code left.
Therefore remove the EXPORT_SYMBOL
- __apply_alternatives() contains a runtime check which verifies that
the size of the to be patched code area is even. Convert this to a
compile time check
- Increase size of buffers for sending z/VM CP DIAGNOSE X'008' commands
from 128 to 240
- Do not accept z/VM CP DIAGNOSE X'008' commands longer than maximally
allowed
- Use correct defines IPL_BP_NVME_LEN and IPL_BP0_NVME_LEN instead of
IPL_BP_FCP_LEN and IPL_BP0_FCP_LEN ones to initialize NVMe reIPL
block on 'scp_data' sysfs attribute update
- Initialize the correct fields of the NVMe dump block, which were
confused with FCP fields
- Refactor macros for 'scp_data' (re-)IPL sysfs attribute to reduce
code duplication
- Introduce 'scp_data' sysfs attribute for dump IPL to allow tools such
as dumpconf passing additional kernel command line parameters to a
stand-alone dumper
- Rework the CPACF query functions to use the correct RRE or RRF
instruction formats and set instruction register fields correctly
- Instead of calling BUG() at runtime force a link error during compile
when a unsupported opcode is used with __cpacf_query() or
__cpacf_check_opcode() functions
- Fix a crash in ap_parse_bitmap_str() function on /sys/bus/ap/apmask
or /sys/bus/ap/aqmask sysfs file update with a relative mask value
- Fix "bindings complete" udev event which should be sent once all AP
devices have been bound to device drivers and again when unbind/bind
actions take place and all AP devices are bound again
- Facility list alt_stfle_fac_list is nowhere used in the decompressor,
therefore remove it there
- Remove custom kprobes insn slot allocator in favour of the standard
module_alloc() one, since kernel image and module areas are located
within 4GB
- Use kvcalloc() instead of kvmalloc_array() in zcrypt driver to avoid
calling memset() with a large byte count and get rid of the sparse
warning as result

sparse warns about a large memset() call within
zcrypt_device_status_mask_ext():
drivers/s390/crypto/zcrypt_api.c:1303:15: warning: memset with byte count of 262144
Get rid of this warning by making sure that all callers of this function
allocate memory with __GFP_ZERO, which zeroes memory already at allocation
time, which again allows to remove the memset() call.

With the mentioned commit (see the fixes tag) on every AP bus scan an
uevent "AP bus change bindings complete" is emitted. Furthermore if an AP
device switched from one driver to another, for example by manipulating the
apmask, there was never a "bindings complete" uevent generated.
The "bindings complete" event should be sent once when all AP devices have
been bound to device drivers and again if unbind/bind actions take place
and finally all AP devices are bound again. Therefore implement this.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next
Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski:
"Core & protocols:
- Complete rework of garbage collection of AF_UNIX sockets.
AF_UNIX is prone to forming reference count cycles due to fd
passing functionality. New method based on Tarjan's Strongly
Connected Components algorithm should be both faster and remove a
lot of workarounds we accumulated over the years.
- Add TCP fraglist GRO support, allowing chaining multiple TCP
packets and forwarding them together. Useful for small switches /
routers which lack basic checksum offload in some scenarios (e.g.
PPPoE).
- Support using SMP threads for handling packet backlog i.e. packet
processing from software interfaces and old drivers which don't use
NAPI. This helps move the processing out of the softirq jumble.
- Continue work of converting from rtnl lock to RCU protection.
Don't require rtnl lock when reading: IPv6 routing FIB, IPv6
address labels, netdev threaded NAPI sysfs files, bonding driver's
sysfs files, MPLS devconf, IPv4 FIB rules, netns IDs, tcp metrics,
TC Qdiscs, neighbor entries, ARP entries via ioctl(SIOCGARP), a lot
of the link information available via rtnetlink.
- Small optimizations from Eric to UDP wake up handling, memory
accounting, RPS/RFS implementation, TCP packet sizing etc.
- Allow direct page recycling in the bulk API used by XDP, for +2%
PPS.
- Support peek with an offset on TCP sockets.
- Add MPTCP APIs for querying last time packets were received/sent/acked
and whether MPTCP "upgrade" succeeded on a TCP socket.
- Add intra-node communication shortcut to improve SMC performance.
- Add IPv6 (and IPv{4,6}-over-IPv{4,6}) support to the GTP protocol
driver.
- Add HSR-SAN (RedBOX) mode of operation to the HSR protocol driver.
- Add reset reasons for tracing what caused a TCP reset to be sent.
- Introduce direction attribute for xfrm (IPSec) states. State can be
used either for input or output packet processing.
Things we sprinkled into general kernel code:
- Add bitmap_{read,write}(), bitmap_size(), expose BYTES_TO_BITS().
This required touch-ups and renaming of a few existing users.
- Add Endian-dependent __counted_by_{le,be} annotations.
- Make building selftests "quieter" by printing summaries like
"CC object.o" rather than full commands with all the arguments.
Netfilter:
- Use GFP_KERNEL to clone elements, to deal better with OOM
situations and avoid failures in the .commit step.
BPF:
- Add eBPF JIT for ARCv2 CPUs.
- Support attaching kprobe BPF programs through kprobe_multi link in
a session mode, meaning, a BPF program is attached to both function
entry and return, the entry program can decide if the return
program gets executed and the entry program can share u64 cookie
value with return program. "Session mode" is a common use-case for
tetragon and bpftrace.
- Add the ability to specify and retrieve BPF cookie for raw
tracepoint programs in order to ease migration from classic to raw
tracepoints.
- Add an internal-only BPF per-CPU instruction for resolving per-CPU
memory addresses and implement support in x86, ARM64 and RISC-V
JITs. This allows inlining functions which need to access per-CPU
state.
- Optimize x86 BPF JIT's emit_mov_imm64, and add support for various
atomics in bpf_arena which can be JITed as a single x86
instruction. Support BPF arena on ARM64.
- Add a new bpf_wq API for deferring events and refactor
process-context bpf_timer code to keep common code where possible.
- Harden the BPF verifier's and/or/xor value tracking.
- Introduce crypto kfuncs to let BPF programs call kernel crypto
APIs.
- Support bpf_tail_call_static() helper for BPF programs with GCC 13.
- Add bpf_preempt_{disable,enable}() kfuncs in order to allow a BPF
program to have code sections where preemption is disabled.
Driver API:
- Skip software TC processing completely if all installed rules are
marked as HW-only, instead of checking the HW-only flag rule by
rule.
- Add support for configuring PoE (Power over Ethernet), similar to
the already existing support for PoDL (Power over Data Line)
config.
- Initial bits of a queue control API, for now allowing a single
queue to be reset without disturbing packet flow to other queues.
- Common (ethtool) statistics for hardware timestamping.
Tests and tooling:
- Remove the need to create a config file to run the net forwarding
tests so that a naive "make run_tests" can exercise them.
- Define a method of writing tests which require an external endpoint
to communicate with (to send/receive data towards the test
machine). Add a few such tests.
- Create a shared code library for writing Python tests. Expose the
YAML Netlink library from tools/ to the tests for easy Netlink
access.
- Move netfilter tests under net/, extend them, separate performance
tests from correctness tests, and iron out issues found by running
them "on every commit".
- Refactor BPF selftests to use common network helpers.
- Further work filling in YAML definitions of Netlink messages for:
nftables, team driver, bonding interfaces, vlan interfaces, VF
info, TC u32 mark, TC police action.
- Teach Python YAML Netlink to decode attribute policies.
- Extend the definition of the "indexed array" construct in the specs
to cover arrays of scalars rather than just nests.
- Add hyperlinks between definitions in generated Netlink docs.
Drivers:
- Make sure unsupported flower control flags are rejected by drivers,
and make more drivers report errors directly to the application
rather than dmesg (large number of driver changes from Asbjørn
Sloth Tønnesen).
- Ethernet high-speed NICs:
- Broadcom (bnxt):
- support multiple RSS contexts and steering traffic to them
- support XDP metadata
- make page pool allocations more NUMA aware
- Intel (100G, ice, idpf):
- extract datapath code common among Intel drivers into a library
- use fewer resources in switchdev by sharing queues with the PF
- add PFCP filter support
- add Ethernet filter support
- use a spinlock instead of HW lock in PTP clock ops
- support 5 layer Tx scheduler topology
- nVidia/Mellanox:
- 800G link modes and 100G SerDes speeds
- per-queue IRQ coalescing configuration
- Marvell Octeon:
- support offloading TC packet mark action
- Ethernet NICs consumer, embedded and virtual:
- stop lying about skb->truesize in USB Ethernet drivers, it
messes up TCP memory calculations
- Google cloud vNIC:
- support changing ring size via ethtool
- support ring reset using the queue control API
- VirtIO net:
- expose flow hash from RSS to XDP
- per-queue statistics
- add selftests

Make use of iucv_alloc_device() to get rid of quite some code. In addition
this also removes a cast to an incompatible function (clang W=1):

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/s390/linux
Pull s390 updates from Alexander Gordeev:
- Store AP Query Configuration Information in a static buffer
- Rework the AP initialization and add missing cleanups to the error
path
- Swap IRQ and AP bus/device registration to avoid race conditions
- Export prot_virt_guest symbol
- Introduce AP configuration changes notifier interface to facilitate
modularization of the AP bus
- Add CONFIG_AP kernel configuration option to allow modularization of
the AP bus
- Rework CONFIG_ZCRYPT_DEBUG kernel configuration option description
and dependency and rename it to CONFIG_AP_DEBUG
- Convert sprintf() and snprintf() to sysfs_emit() in CIO code
- Adjust indentation of RELOCS command build step
- Make crypto performance counters upward compatible
- Convert make_page_secure() and gmap_make_secure() to use folio
- Rework channel-utilization-block (CUB) handling in preparation of
introducing additional CUBs
- Use attribute groups to simplify registration, removal and extension
of measurement-related channel-path sysfs attributes
- Add a per-channel-path binary "ext_measurement" sysfs attribute that
provides access to extended channel-path measurement data
- Export measurement data for all channel-measurement-groups (CMG), not
only for a specific ones. This enables support of new CMG data
formats in userspace without the need for kernel changes
- Add a per-channel-path sysfs attribute "speed_bps" that provides the
operating speed in bits per second or 0 if the operating speed is not
available
- The CIO tracepoint subchannel-type field "st" is incorrectly set to
the value of subchannel-enabled SCHIB "ena" field. Fix that
- Do not forcefully limit vmemmap starting address to MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS
- Consider the maximum physical address available to a DCSS segment
(512GB) when memory layout is set up
- Simplify the virtual memory layout setup by reducing the size of
identity mapping vs vmemmap overlap
- Swap vmalloc and Lowcore/Real Memory Copy areas in virtual memory.
This will allow to place the kernel image next to kernel modules
- Move everyting KASLR related from <asm/setup.h> to <asm/page.h>
- Put virtual memory layout information into a structure to improve
code generation
- Currently __kaslr_offset is the kernel offset in both physical and
virtual memory spaces. Uncouple these offsets to allow uncoupling of
the addresses spaces
- Currently the identity mapping base address is implicit and is always
set to zero. Make it explicit by putting into __identity_base
persistent boot variable and use it in proper context
- Introduce .amode31 section start and end macros AMODE31_START and
AMODE31_END
- Introduce OS_INFO entries that do not reference any data in memory,
but rather provide only values
- Store virtual memory layout in OS_INFO. It is read out by
makedumpfile, crash and other tools
- Store virtual memory layout in VMCORE_INFO. It is read out by crash
and other tools when /proc/kcore device is used
- Create additional PT_LOAD ELF program header that covers kernel image
only, so that vmcore tools could locate kernel text and data when
virtual and physical memory spaces are uncoupled
- Uncouple physical and virtual address spaces
- Map kernel at fixed location when KASLR mode is disabled. The
location is defined by CONFIG_KERNEL_IMAGE_BASE kernel configuration
value.
- Rework deployment of kernel image for both compressed and
uncompressed variants as defined by CONFIG_KERNEL_UNCOMPRESSED kernel
configuration value
- Move .vmlinux.relocs section in front of the compressed kernel. The
interim section rescue step is avoided as result
- Correct modules thunk offset calculation when branch target is more
than 2GB away
- Kernel modules contain their own set of expoline thunks. Now that the
kernel modules area is less than 4GB away from kernel expoline
thunks, make modules use kernel expolines. Also make EXPOLINE_EXTERN
the default if the compiler supports it
- userfaultfd can insert shared zeropages into processes running VMs,
but that is not allowed for s390. Fallback to allocating a fresh
zeroed anonymous folio and insert that instead
- Re-enable shared zeropages for non-PV and non-skeys KVM guests
- Rename hex2bitmap() to ap_hex2bitmap() and export it for external use
- Add ap_config sysfs attribute to provide the means for setting or
displaying adapters, domains and control domains assigned to a
vfio-ap mediated device in a single operation
- Make vfio_ap_mdev_link_queue() ignore duplicate link requests
- Add write support to ap_config sysfs attribute to allow atomic update
a vfio-ap mediated device state
- Document ap_config sysfs attribute
- Function os_info_old_init() is expected to be called only from a
regular kdump kernel. Enable it to be called from a stand-alone dump
kernel
- Address gcc -Warray-bounds warning and fix array size in struct
os_info
- s390 does not support SMBIOS, so drop unneeded CONFIG_DMI checks
- Use unwinder instead of __builtin_return_address() with ftrace to
prevent returning of undefined values
- Sections .hash and .gnu.hash are only created when CONFIG_PIE_BUILD
kernel is enabled. Drop these for the case CONFIG_PIE_BUILD is
disabled
- Compile kernel with -fPIC and link with -no-pie to allow kpatch
feature always succeed and drop the whole CONFIG_PIE_BUILD
option-enabled code
- Add missing virt_to_phys() converter for VSIE facility and crypto
control blocks

[ 2057.572847] Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysis:
There is one napi structure per out_q: card->qdio.out_qs[i].napi
The napi.poll functions are set during qeth_open().
Since
commit 1cfef80d4c2b ("s390/qeth: Don't call dev_close/dev_open (DOWN/UP)")
qeth_set_offline()/qeth_set_online() no longer call dev_close()/
dev_open(). So if qeth_free_qdio_queues() cleared
card->qdio.out_qs[i].napi.poll while the network interface was UP and the
card was offline, they are not set again.
Reproduction:
chzdev -e $devno layer2=0
ip link set dev $network_interface up
echo 0 > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/devices/0.0.$devno/online
echo foo > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/devices/0.0.$devno/hsuid
echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/devices/0.0.$devno/online
-> Crash (can be enforced e.g. by af_iucv connect(), ip link down/up, ...)
Note that a Completion Queue (CQ) is only enabled or disabled, when hsuid
is set for the first time or when it is removed.
Workarounds:
- Set hsuid before setting the device online for the first time
or
- Use chzdev -d $devno; chzdev $devno hsuid=xxx; chzdev -e $devno;
to set hsuid on an existing device. (this will remove and recreate the
network interface)
Fix:
There is no need to free the output queues when a completion queue is
added or removed.
card->qdio.state now indicates whether the inbound buffer pool and the
outbound queues are allocated.
card->qdio.c_q indicates whether a CQ is allocated.

An EP11 reply cprb contains a field ret_code which may
hold an error code different than the error code stored
in the payload of the cprb. As of now all the EP11 misc
functions do not evaluate this field but focus on the
error code in the payload.
Before checking the payload error, first the cprb error
field should be evaluated which is introduced with this
patch.
If the return code value 0x000c0003 is seen, this
indicates a busy situation which is reflected by
-EBUSY in the zcrpyt_ep11misc.c low level function.
A higher level caller should consider to retry after
waiting a dedicated duration (say 1 second).

Currently, we allocate a lbuf-sized kernel buffer and copy lbuf from

ensure that the string is terminated inside the buffer, this can lead to

The 3270 driver allocates requests without buffer, so the value passed

Allow writing a complete set of masks to ap_config. Doing so will
cause the vfio-ap driver to replace the vfio-ap mediated device's
matrix masks with the given set of masks. If the given state cannot
be set, then no changes are made to the vfio-ap mediated device.
The format of the data written to ap_config is as follows:
{amask},{dmask},{cmask}\n
\n is a newline character.
amask, dmask, and cmask are masks identifying which adapters, domains,
and control domains should be assigned to the mediated device.
The format of a mask is as follows:
0xNN..NN
Where NN..NN is 64 hexadecimal characters representing a 256-bit value.
The leftmost (highest order) bit represents adapter/domain 0.
For an example set of masks that represent your mdev's current
configuration, simply cat ap_config.
This attribute is intended to be used by an mdevctl callout script

Since [1], dma_alloc_coherent() does not accept requests for GFP_COMP
anymore, even on archs that may be able to fulfill this. Functionality that
relied on the receive buffer being a compound page broke at that point:
The SMC-D protocol, that utilizes the ism device driver, passes receive
buffers to the splice processor in a struct splice_pipe_desc with a
single entry list of struct pages. As the buffer is no longer a compound
page, the splice processor now rejects requests to handle more than a
page worth of data.
Replace dma_alloc_coherent() and allocate a buffer with folio_alloc and
create a DMA map for it with dma_map_page(). Since only receive buffers
on ISM devices use DMA, qualify the mapping as FROM_DEVICE.
Since ISM devices are available on arch s390, only, and on that arch all
DMA is coherent, there is no need to introduce and export some kind of
dma_sync_to_cpu() method to be called by the SMC-D protocol layer.
Analogously, replace dma_free_coherent by a two step dma_unmap_page,
then folio_put to free the receive buffer.

A race condition exists in ccw_device_set_online() that can cause the
online process to fail, leaving the affected device in an inconsistent
state. As a result, subsequent attempts to set that device online fail
with return code ENODEV.
The problem occurs when a path verification request arrives after
a wait for final device state completed, but before the result state
is evaluated.
Fix this by ensuring that the CCW-device lock is held between
determining final state and checking result state.

A channel-path's channel-measurement-group value (CMG) determines the

Currently CIO exports these data blocks via sysfs only for a specific

The number of times yet another open coded
`BITS_TO_LONGS(nbits) * sizeof(long)` can be spotted is huge.
Some generic helper is long overdue.
Add one, bitmap_size(), but with one detail.
BITS_TO_LONGS() uses DIV_ROUND_UP(). The latter works well when both
divident and divisor are compile-time constants or when the divisor
is not a pow-of-2. When it is however, the compilers sometimes tend
to generate suboptimal code (GCC 13):
48 83 c0 3f add $0x3f,%rax
48 c1 e8 06 shr $0x6,%rax
48 8d 14 c5 00 00 00 00 lea 0x0(,%rax,8),%rdx
%BITS_PER_LONG is always a pow-2 (either 32 or 64), but GCC still does
full division of `nbits + 63` by it and then multiplication by 8.
Instead of BITS_TO_LONGS(), use ALIGN() and then divide by 8. GCC:
8d 50 3f lea 0x3f(%rax),%edx
c1 ea 03 shr $0x3,%edx
81 e2 f8 ff ff 1f and $0x1ffffff8,%edx
Now it shifts `nbits + 63` by 3 positions (IOW performs fast division
by 8) and then masks bits[2:0]. bloat-o-meter:
add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 20/133 up/down: 156/-773 (-617)
Clang does it better and generates the same code before/after starting
from -O1, except that with the ALIGN() approach it uses %edx and thus
still saves some bytes:
add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 9/133 up/down: 18/-538 (-520)
Note that we can't expand DIV_ROUND_UP() by adding a check and using
this approach there, as it's used in array declarations where
expressions are not allowed.
Add this helper to tools/ as well.

The IO subsystem expects a driver to retry a ccw_device_start, when the
subsequent interrupt response block (irb) contains a deferred
condition code 1.
Symptoms before this commit:
On the read channel we always trigger the next read anyhow, so no
different behaviour here.
On the write channel we may experience timeout errors, because the
expected reply will never be received without the retry.
Other callers of qeth_send_control_data() may wrongly assume that the ccw
was successful, which may cause problems later.
Note that since

hopefully with the next merge window, so that e.g. the kernel image

branches and also for some other simplifications.
As a prerequisite this requires to fix all misuses of virtual and

concept that virtual and physical addresses are the same, that new
bugs got added to code which was already fixed. In order to avoid
that even more code gets merged which adds such bugs add and use new

Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- Sumanth Korikkar has taught s390 to allocate hotplug-time page frames
from hotplugged memory rather than only from main memory. Series
"implement "memmap on memory" feature on s390".
- More folio conversions from Matthew Wilcox in the series
"Convert memcontrol charge moving to use folios"
"mm: convert mm counter to take a folio"
- Chengming Zhou has optimized zswap's rbtree locking, providing
significant reductions in system time and modest but measurable
reductions in overall runtimes. The series is "mm/zswap: optimize the
scalability of zswap rb-tree".
- Chengming Zhou has also provided the series "mm/zswap: optimize zswap
lru list" which provides measurable runtime benefits in some
swap-intensive situations.
- And Chengming Zhou further optimizes zswap in the series "mm/zswap:
optimize for dynamic zswap_pools". Measured improvements are modest.
- zswap cleanups and simplifications from Yosry Ahmed in the series
"mm: zswap: simplify zswap_swapoff()".
- In the series "Add DAX ABI for memmap_on_memory", Vishal Verma has
contributed several DAX cleanups as well as adding a sysfs tunable to
control the memmap_on_memory setting when the dax device is
hotplugged as system memory.
- Johannes Weiner has added the large series "mm: zswap: cleanups",
which does that.
- More DAMON work from SeongJae Park in the series
"mm/damon: make DAMON debugfs interface deprecation unignorable"
"selftests/damon: add more tests for core functionalities and corner cases"
"Docs/mm/damon: misc readability improvements"
"mm/damon: let DAMOS feeds and tame/auto-tune itself"
- In the series "mm/mempolicy: weighted interleave mempolicy and sysfs
extension" Rakie Kim has developed a new mempolicy interleaving
policy wherein we allocate memory across nodes in a weighted fashion
rather than uniformly. This is beneficial in heterogeneous memory
environments appearing with CXL.
- Christophe Leroy has contributed some cleanup and consolidation work
against the ARM pagetable dumping code in the series "mm: ptdump:
Refactor CONFIG_DEBUG_WX and check_wx_pages debugfs attribute".
- Luis Chamberlain has added some additional xarray selftesting in the
series "test_xarray: advanced API multi-index tests".
- Muhammad Usama Anjum has reworked the selftest code to make its
human-readable output conform to the TAP ("Test Anything Protocol")
format. Amongst other things, this opens up the use of third-party
tools to parse and process out selftesting results.
- Ryan Roberts has added fork()-time PTE batching of THP ptes in the
series "mm/memory: optimize fork() with PTE-mapped THP". Mainly
targeted at arm64, this significantly speeds up fork() when the
process has a large number of pte-mapped folios.
- David Hildenbrand also gets in on the THP pte batching game in his
series "mm/memory: optimize unmap/zap with PTE-mapped THP". It
implements batching during munmap() and other pte teardown
situations. The microbenchmark improvements are nice.
- And in the series "Transparent Contiguous PTEs for User Mappings"
Ryan Roberts further utilizes arm's pte's contiguous bit ("contpte
mappings"). Kernel build times on arm64 improved nicely. Ryan's
series "Address some contpte nits" provides some followup work.
- In the series "mm/hugetlb: Restore the reservation" Breno Leitao has
fixed an obscure hugetlb race which was causing unnecessary page
faults. He has also added a reproducer under the selftest code.
- In the series "selftests/mm: Output cleanups for the compaction
test", Mark Brown did what the title claims.
- Kinsey Ho has added the series "mm/mglru: code cleanup and
refactoring".
- Even more zswap material from Nhat Pham. The series "fix and extend
zswap kselftests" does as claimed.
- In the series "Introduce cpu_dcache_is_aliasing() to fix DAX
regression" Mathieu Desnoyers has cleaned up and fixed rather a mess
in our handling of DAX on archiecctures which have virtually aliasing
data caches. The arm architecture is the main beneficiary.
- Lokesh Gidra's series "per-vma locks in userfaultfd" provides
dramatic improvements in worst-case mmap_lock hold times during
certain userfaultfd operations.
- Some page_owner enhancements and maintenance work from Oscar Salvador
in his series
"page_owner: print stacks and their outstanding allocations"
"page_owner: Fixup and cleanup"
- Uladzislau Rezki has contributed some vmalloc scalability
improvements in his series "Mitigate a vmap lock contention". It
realizes a 12x improvement for a certain microbenchmark.
- Some kexec/crash cleanup work from Baoquan He in the series "Split
crash out from kexec and clean up related config items".
- Some zsmalloc maintenance work from Chengming Zhou in the series
"mm/zsmalloc: fix and optimize objects/page migration"
"mm/zsmalloc: some cleanup for get/set_zspage_mapping()"
- Zi Yan has taught the MM to perform compaction on folios larger than
order=0. This a step along the path to implementaton of the merging
of large anonymous folios. The series is named "Enable >0 order folio
memory compaction".
- Christoph Hellwig has done quite a lot of cleanup work in the
pagecache writeback code in his series "convert write_cache_pages()
to an iterator".
- Some modest hugetlb cleanups and speedups in Vishal Moola's series
"Handle hugetlb faults under the VMA lock".
- Zi Yan has changed the page splitting code so we can split huge pages
into sizes other than order-0 to better utilize large folios. The
series is named "Split a folio to any lower order folios".
- David Hildenbrand has contributed the series "mm: remove
total_mapcount()", a cleanup.
- Matthew Wilcox has sought to improve the performance of bulk memory
freeing in his series "Rearrange batched folio freeing".
- Gang Li's series "hugetlb: parallelize hugetlb page init on boot"
provides large improvements in bootup times on large machines which
are configured to use large numbers of hugetlb pages.
- Matthew Wilcox's series "PageFlags cleanups" does that.
- Qi Zheng's series "minor fixes and supplement for ptdesc" does that
also. S390 is affected.
- Cleanups to our pagemap utility functions from Peter Xu in his series
"mm/treewide: Replace pXd_large() with pXd_leaf()".
- Nico Pache has fixed a few things with our hugepage selftests in his
series "selftests/mm: Improve Hugepage Test Handling in MM
Selftests".
- Also, of course, many singleton patches to many things. Please see
the individual changelogs for details.

Tests with hot-plugging crytpo cards on KVM guests with debug
kernel build revealed an use after free for the load field of
the struct zcrypt_card. The reason was an incorrect reference
handling of the zcrypt card object which could lead to a free
of the zcrypt card object while it was still in use.

- Introduce and use a lock to synchronize accesses to zpci device data

- It uses dynamic symbols (.dynsym), for which the linker refuses

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs
Pull block handle updates from Christian Brauner:
"Last cycle we changed opening of block devices, and opening a block
device would return a bdev_handle. This allowed us to implement
support for restricting and forbidding writes to mounted block
devices. It was accompanied by converting and adding helpers to
operate on bdev_handles instead of plain block devices.
That was already a good step forward but ultimately it isn't necessary
to have special purpose helpers for opening block devices internally
that return a bdev_handle.
Fundamentally, opening a block device internally should just be
equivalent to opening files. So now all internal opens of block
devices return files just as a userspace open would. Instead of
introducing a separate indirection into bdev_open_by_*() via struct
bdev_handle bdev_file_open_by_*() is made to just return a struct
file. Opening and closing a block device just becomes equivalent to
opening and closing a file.
This all works well because internally we already have a pseudo fs for
block devices and so opening block devices is simple. There's a few
places where we needed to be careful such as during boot when the
kernel is supposed to mount the rootfs directly without init doing it.
Here we need to take care to ensure that we flush out any asynchronous
file close. That's what we already do for opening, unpacking, and
closing the initramfs. So nothing new here.
The equivalence of opening and closing block devices to regular files
is a win in and of itself. But it also has various other advantages.
We can remove struct bdev_handle completely. Various low-level helpers
are now private to the block layer. Other helpers were simply
removable completely.
A follow-up series that is already reviewed build on this and makes it
possible to remove bdev->bd_inode and allows various clean ups of the
buffer head code as well. All places where we stashed a bdev_handle
now just stash a file and use simple accessors to get to the actual
block device which was already the case for bdev_handle"

This patch reworks and improves the pkey retry behavior for the
pkey_ep11key2pkey() function. In contrast to the pkey_skey2pkey()
function which is used to trigger a protected key derivation from an
CCA secure data or cipher key the EP11 counterpart function had no
proper retry loop implemented. This patch now introduces code which
acts similar to the retry already done for CCA keys for this function

This patch reworks and improves the zcrypt retry behavior:
- The zcrypt_rescan_req counter has been removed. This
counter variable has been increased on some transport
errors and was used as a gatekeeper for AP bus rescans.
- Rework of the zcrypt_process_rescan() function to not
use the above counter variable any more. Instead now
always the ap_bus_force_rescan() function is called
(as this has been improved with a previous patch).
- As the zcrpyt_process_rescan() function is called in
all cprb send functions in case of the first attempt
to send failed with ENODEV now before the next attempt
to send an cprb is started.
- Introduce a define ZCRYPT_WAIT_BINDINGS_COMPLETE_MS
for the amount of milliseconds to have the zcrypt API
wait for AP bindings complete. This amount has been
reduced to 30s (was 60s). Some playing around showed
that 30s is a really fair limit.
The result of the above together with the patches to
improve the AP scan bus functions is that after the
first loop of cprb send retries when the result is a
ENODEV the AP bus scan is always triggered (synchronous).
If the AP bus scan detects changes in the configuration,
all the send functions now retry when the first attempt
was failing with ENODEV in the hope that now a suitable
device has appeared.
About concurrency: The ap_bus_force_rescan() uses a mutex
to ensure only one active AP bus scan is running. Another
caller of this function is blocked as long as the scan is
running but does not cause yet another scan. Instead the
result of the 'other' scan is used. This affects only tasks
which run into an initial ENODEV. Tasks with successful
delivery of cprbs will never invoke the bus scan and thus
never get blocked by the mutex.

The both functions zcrypt_send_cprb() and zcrypt_send_ep11_cprb()
are used to send CPRBs in-kernel from different sources. For
example the pkey module may call one of the functions in
zcrypt_ep11misc.c to trigger a derive of a protected key from
a secure key blob via an existing crypto card. These both
functions are then the internal API to send the CPRB and
receive the response.
All the ioctl functions to send an CPRB down to the addressed
crypto card use some kind of retry mechanism. When the first
attempt fails with ENODEV, a bus rescan is triggered and a
loop with retries is carried out.
For the both named internal functions there was never any
retry attempt made. This patch now introduces the retry code
even for this both internal functions to have effectively
same behavior on sending an CPRB from an in-kernel source
and sending an CPRB from userspace via ioctl.

Rework the invocations around ap_scan_bus():
- Protect ap_scan_bus() with a mutex to make sure only one
scan at a time is running.
- The workqueue invocation which is triggered by either the
module init or via AP bus scan timer expiration uses this
mutex and if there is already a scan running, the work
is simple aborted (as the job is done by another task).
- The ap_bus_force_rescan() which is invoked by higher level
layers mostly on failures which indicate a bus scan may
help is reworked to call ap_scan_bus() direct instead of
enqueuing work into a system workqueue and waiting for that
to finish. Of course the mutex is respected and in case of
another task already running a bus scan the shortcut of
waiting for this scan to finish and reusing the scan result
is taken.

The APQN bindings complete completion was used to reflect
that 1st the AP bus initial scan is done and 2nd all the
detected APQNs have been bound to a device driver.
This was a single-shot action. However, as the AP bus
supports hot-plug it may be that new APQNs appear reflected
as new AP queue and card devices which need to be bound
to appropriate device drivers. So the condition that
all existing AP queue devices are bound to device drivers
may go away for a certain time.
This patch now checks during AP bus scan for maybe new AP
devices appearing and does a re-init of the internal completion
variable. So the AP bus function ap_wait_apqn_bindings_complete()
now may block on this condition variable even later after
initial scan is through when new APQNs appear which need to
get bound.
This patch also moves the check for binding complete invocation
from the probe function to the end of the AP bus scan function.
This change also covers some weird scenarios where during a
card hotplug the binding of the card device was sufficient for
binding complete but the queue devices where still in the
process of being discovered.
As of now this change has no impact on existing code. The
behavior change in the now later bindings complete should not
impact any code (and has been tested so far). The only
exploiter is the zcrypt function zcrypt_wait_api_operational()
which only initial calls ap_wait_apqn_bindings_complete().
However, this new behavior of the AP bus wait for APQNs bindings
complete function will be used in a later patch exploiting
this for the zcrypt API layer.

Update vfio_ap_mdev_reset_queue() to handle an unexpected checkstop (hardware error) the
same as the deconfigured case. This prevents unexpected and unhelpful warnings in the
event of a hardware error.
We also stop lying about a queue's reset response code. This was originally done so we
could force vfio_ap_mdev_filter_matrix to pass a deconfigured device through to the guest
for the hotplug scenario. vfio_ap_mdev_filter_matrix is instead modified to allow
passthrough for all queues with reset state normal, deconfigured, or checkstopped. In the
checkstopped case we choose to pass the device through and let the error state be
reflected at the guest level.

The s390 common I/O layer (CIO) returns an unexpected -EBUSY return code
when drivers try to start I/O while a path-verification (PV) process is
pending. This can lead to failed device initialization attempts with
symptoms like broken network connectivity after boot.
Fix this by replacing the -EBUSY return code with a deferred condition
code 1 reply to make path-verification handling consistent from a
driver's point of view.
The problem can be reproduced semi-regularly using the following process,
while repeating steps 2-3 as necessary (example assumes an OSA device
with bus-IDs 0.0.a000-0.0.a002 on CHPID 0.02):
1. echo 0.0.a000,0.0.a001,0.0.a002 >/sys/bus/ccwgroup/drivers/qeth/group
2. echo 0 > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/devices/0.0.a000/online
3. echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/devices/0.0.a000/online ; \
echo on > /sys/devices/css0/chp0.02/status
Background information:
The common I/O layer starts path-verification I/Os when it receives
indications about changes in a device path's availability. This occurs
for example when hardware events indicate a change in channel-path
status, or when a manual operation such as a CHPID vary or configure
operation is performed.
If a driver attempts to start I/O while a PV is running, CIO reports a
successful I/O start (ccw_device_start() return code 0). Then, after
completion of PV, CIO synthesizes an interrupt response that indicates
an asynchronous status condition that prevented the start of the I/O
(deferred condition code 1).
If a PV indication arrives while a device is busy with driver-owned I/O,
PV is delayed until after I/O completion was reported to the driver's
interrupt handler. To ensure that PV can be started eventually, CIO
reports a device busy condition (ccw_device_start() return code -EBUSY)
if a driver tries to start another I/O while PV is pending.
In some cases this -EBUSY return code causes device drivers to consider
a device not operational, resulting in failed device initialization.
Note: The code that introduced the problem was added in 2003. Symptoms
started appearing with the following CIO commit that causes a PV
indication when a device is removed from the cio_ignore list after the
associated parent subchannel device was probed, but before online
processing of the CCW device has started:
2297791c92d0 ("s390/cio: dont unregister subchannel from child-drivers")
During boot, the cio_ignore list is modified by the cio_ignore dracut
module [1] as well as Linux vendor-specific systemd service scripts[2].
When combined, this commit and boot scripts cause a frequent occurrence
of the problem during boot.

MEM_PREPARE_ONLINE memory notifier makes memory block physical
accessible via sclp assign command. The notifier ensures self-contained
memory maps are accessible and hence enabling the "memmap on memory" on
s390.
MEM_FINISH_OFFLINE memory notifier shifts the memory block to an
inaccessible state via sclp unassign command.
Implementation considerations:
* When MHP_MEMMAP_ON_MEMORY is disabled, the system retains the old
behavior. This means the memory map is allocated from default memory.
* If MACHINE_HAS_EDAT1 is unavailable, MHP_MEMMAP_ON_MEMORY is
automatically disabled. This ensures that vmemmap pagetables do not
consume additional memory from the default memory allocator.
* The MEM_GOING_ONLINE notifier has been modified to perform no
operation, as MEM_PREPARE_ONLINE already executes the sclp assign
command.
* The MEM_CANCEL_ONLINE/MEM_OFFLINE notifier now performs no operation, as
MEM_FINISH_OFFLINE already executes the sclp unassign command.

All log messages in dasd.c use the printk variants of pr_*(). They all
add the name of the affected device manually to the log message.

To reduce the information required for the string generation in the
sense dump functions, use the more concise dev_err() variant over
printk(KERN_ERR, ...) to improve code readability.
The dev_err() function provides the component and device name for free
and the separate dev_name() calls as well as the PRINTK_HEADER can be
dropped.
Dropping PRINTK_HEADER removes the "dasd(eckd):" for all lines. Only the
first line of a dev_err() call is prefixed with the component and device
(e.g. "dasd-eckd 0.0.95d0:").

Symptom:
In case of a bad cable connection (e.g. dirty optics) a fast sequence of
network DOWN-UP-DOWN-UP could happen. UP triggers recovery of the qeth
interface. In case of a second DOWN while recovery is still ongoing, it
can happen that the IP@ of a Layer3 qeth interface is lost and will not
be recovered by the second UP.
Problem:
When registration of IP addresses with Layer 3 qeth devices fails, (e.g.
because of bad address format) the respective IP address is deleted from
its hash-table in the driver. If registration fails because of a ENETDOWN
condition, the address should stay in the hashtable, so a subsequent
recovery can restore it.
3caa4af834df ("qeth: keep ip-address after LAN_OFFLINE failure")
fixes this for registration failures during normal operation, but not
during recovery.
Solution:
Keep L3-IP address in case of ENETDOWN in qeth_l3_recover_ip(). For
consistency with qeth_l3_add_ip() we also keep it in case of EADDRINUSE,
i.e. for some reason the card already/still has this address registered.

Pull kvm updates from Paolo Bonzini:
"Generic:
- Use memdup_array_user() to harden against overflow.
- Unconditionally advertise KVM_CAP_DEVICE_CTRL for all
architectures.
- Clean up Kconfigs that all KVM architectures were selecting
- New functionality around "guest_memfd", a new userspace API that
creates an anonymous file and returns a file descriptor that refers
to it. guest_memfd files are bound to their owning virtual machine,
cannot be mapped, read, or written by userspace, and cannot be
resized. guest_memfd files do however support PUNCH_HOLE, which can
be used to switch a memory area between guest_memfd and regular
anonymous memory.
- New ioctl KVM_SET_MEMORY_ATTRIBUTES allowing userspace to specify
per-page attributes for a given page of guest memory; right now the
only attribute is whether the guest expects to access memory via
guest_memfd or not, which in Confidential SVMs backed by SEV-SNP,
TDX or ARM64 pKVM is checked by firmware or hypervisor that
guarantees confidentiality (AMD PSP, Intel TDX module, or EL2 in
the case of pKVM).
x86:
- Support for "software-protected VMs" that can use the new
guest_memfd and page attributes infrastructure. This is mostly
useful for testing, since there is no pKVM-like infrastructure to
provide a meaningfully reduced TCB.
- Fix a relatively benign off-by-one error when splitting huge pages
during CLEAR_DIRTY_LOG.
- Fix a bug where KVM could incorrectly test-and-clear dirty bits in
non-leaf TDP MMU SPTEs if a racing thread replaces a huge SPTE with
a non-huge SPTE.
- Use more generic lockdep assertions in paths that don't actually
care about whether the caller is a reader or a writer.
- let Xen guests opt out of having PV clock reported as "based on a
stable TSC", because some of them don't expect the "TSC stable" bit
(added to the pvclock ABI by KVM, but never set by Xen) to be set.
- Revert a bogus, made-up nested SVM consistency check for
TLB_CONTROL.
- Advertise flush-by-ASID support for nSVM unconditionally, as KVM
always flushes on nested transitions, i.e. always satisfies flush
requests. This allows running bleeding edge versions of VMware
Workstation on top of KVM.
- Sanity check that the CPU supports flush-by-ASID when enabling SEV
support.
- On AMD machines with vNMI, always rely on hardware instead of
intercepting IRET in some cases to detect unmasking of NMIs
- Support for virtualizing Linear Address Masking (LAM)
- Fix a variety of vPMU bugs where KVM fail to stop/reset counters
and other state prior to refreshing the vPMU model.
- Fix a double-overflow PMU bug by tracking emulated counter events
using a dedicated field instead of snapshotting the "previous"
counter. If the hardware PMC count triggers overflow that is
recognized in the same VM-Exit that KVM manually bumps an event
count, KVM would pend PMIs for both the hardware-triggered overflow
and for KVM-triggered overflow.
- Turn off KVM_WERROR by default for all configs so that it's not
inadvertantly enabled by non-KVM developers, which can be
problematic for subsystems that require no regressions for W=1
builds.
- Advertise all of the host-supported CPUID bits that enumerate
IA32_SPEC_CTRL "features".
- Don't force a masterclock update when a vCPU synchronizes to the
current TSC generation, as updating the masterclock can cause
kvmclock's time to "jump" unexpectedly, e.g. when userspace
hotplugs a pre-created vCPU.
- Use RIP-relative address to read kvm_rebooting in the VM-Enter
fault paths, partly as a super minor optimization, but mostly to
make KVM play nice with position independent executable builds.
- Guard KVM-on-HyperV's range-based TLB flush hooks with an #ifdef on
CONFIG_HYPERV as a minor optimization, and to self-document the
code.
- Add CONFIG_KVM_HYPERV to allow disabling KVM support for HyperV
"emulation" at build time.
ARM64:
- LPA2 support, adding 52bit IPA/PA capability for 4kB and 16kB base
granule sizes. Branch shared with the arm64 tree.
- Large Fine-Grained Trap rework, bringing some sanity to the
feature, although there is more to come. This comes with a prefix
branch shared with the arm64 tree.
- Some additional Nested Virtualization groundwork, mostly
introducing the NV2 VNCR support and retargetting the NV support to
that version of the architecture.
- A small set of vgic fixes and associated cleanups.
Loongarch:
- Optimization for memslot hugepage checking
- Cleanup and fix some HW/SW timer issues
- Add LSX/LASX (128bit/256bit SIMD) support
RISC-V:
- KVM_GET_REG_LIST improvement for vector registers
- Generate ISA extension reg_list using macros in get-reg-list
selftest
- Support for reporting steal time along with selftest
s390:
- Bugfixes
Selftests:
- Fix an annoying goof where the NX hugepage test prints out garbage
instead of the magic token needed to run the test.
- Fix build errors when a header is delete/moved due to a missing
flag in the Makefile.
- Detect if KVM bugged/killed a selftest's VM and print out a helpful
message instead of complaining that a random ioctl() failed.

When a queue is unbound from the vfio_ap device driver, it is reset to
ensure its crypto data is not leaked when it is bound to another device
driver. If the queue is unbound due to the fact that the adapter or domain
was removed from the host's AP configuration, then attempting to reset it
will fail with response code 01 (APID not valid) getting returned from the
reset command. Let's ensure that the queue is assigned to the host's
configuration before resetting it.

When a queue is unbound from the vfio_ap device driver, if that queue is
assigned to a guest's AP configuration, its associated adapter is removed
because queues are defined to a guest via a matrix of adapters and
domains; so, it is not possible to remove a single queue.
If an adapter is removed from the guest's AP configuration, all associated
queues must be reset to prevent leaking crypto data should any of them be
assigned to a different guest or device driver. The one caveat is that if
the queue is being removed because the adapter or domain has been removed
from the host's AP configuration, then an attempt to reset the queue will
fail with response code 01, AP-queue number not valid; so resetting these
queues should be skipped.

When filtering the adapters from the configuration profile for a guest to
create or update a guest's AP configuration, if the APID of an adapter and
the APQI of a domain identify a queue device that is not bound to the
vfio_ap device driver, the APID of the adapter will be filtered because an
individual APQN can not be filtered due to the fact the APQNs are assigned
to an AP configuration as a matrix of APIDs and APQIs. Consequently, a
guest will not have access to all of the queues associated with the
filtered adapter. If the queues are subsequently made available again to
the guest, they should re-appear in a reset state; so, let's make sure all
queues associated with an adapter unplugged from the guest are reset.
In order to identify the set of queues that need to be reset, let's allow a
vfio_ap_queue object to be simultaneously stored in both a hashtable and a
list: A hashtable used to store all of the queues assigned
to a matrix mdev; and/or, a list used to store a subset of the queues that
need to be reset. For example, when an adapter is hot unplugged from a
guest, all guest queues associated with that adapter must be reset. Since
that may be a subset of those assigned to the matrix mdev, they can be
stored in a list that can be passed to the vfio_ap_mdev_reset_queues
function.

guest's APCB
When adapters and/or domains are added to the host's AP configuration, this
may result in multiple queue devices getting created and probed by the
vfio_ap device driver. For each queue device probed, the matrix of adapters
and domains assigned to a matrix mdev will be filtered to update the
guest's APCB. If any adapters or domains get added to or removed from the
APCB, the guest's AP configuration will be dynamically updated (i.e., hot
plug/unplug). To dynamically update the guest's configuration, its VCPUs
must be taken out of SIE for the period of time it takes to make the
update. This is disruptive to the guest's operation and if there are many
queues probed due to a change in the host's AP configuration, this could be
troublesome. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the
'on_scan_complete' callback also filters the mdev's matrix and updates
the guest's AP configuration.
In order to reduce the potential amount of disruption to the guest that may
result from a change to the host's AP configuration, let's bypass the
filtering of the matrix and updating of the guest's AP configuration in the
probe callback - if due to a host config change - and defer it until the
'on_scan_complete' callback is invoked after the AP bus finishes its device
scan operation. This way the filtering and updating will be performed only
once regardless of the number of queues added.

While filtering the mdev matrix, it doesn't make sense - and will have
unexpected results - to filter an APID from the matrix if the APID or one
of the associated APQIs is not in the host's AP configuration. There are
two reasons for this:
1. An adapter or domain that is not in the host's AP configuration can be
assigned to the matrix; this is known as over-provisioning. Queue
devices, however, are only created for adapters and domains in the
host's AP configuration, so there will be no queues associated with an
over-provisioned adapter or domain to filter.
2. The adapter or domain may have been externally removed from the host's
configuration via an SE or HMC attached to a DPM enabled LPAR. In this
case, the vfio_ap device driver would have been notified by the AP bus
via the on_config_changed callback and the adapter or domain would
have already been filtered.
Since the matrix_mdev->shadow_apcb.apm and matrix_mdev->shadow_apcb.aqm are
copied from the mdev matrix sans the APIDs and APQIs not in the host's AP
configuration, let's loop over those bitmaps instead of those assigned to
the matrix.

The vfio_ap_mdev_filter_matrix function is called whenever a new adapter or
domain is assigned to the mdev. The purpose of the function is to update
the guest's AP configuration by filtering the matrix of adapters and
domains assigned to the mdev. When an adapter or domain is assigned, only
the APQNs associated with the APID of the new adapter or APQI of the new
domain are inspected. If an APQN does not reference a queue device bound to
the vfio_ap device driver, then it's APID will be filtered from the mdev's
matrix when updating the guest's AP configuration.
Inspecting only the APID of the new adapter or APQI of the new domain will
result in passing AP queues through to a guest that are not bound to the
vfio_ap device driver under certain circumstances. Consider the following:
guest's AP configuration (all also assigned to the mdev's matrix):
14.0004
14.0005
14.0006
16.0004
16.0005
16.0006
unassign domain 4
unbind queue 16.0005
assign domain 4
When domain 4 is re-assigned, since only domain 4 will be inspected, the
APQNs that will be examined will be:
14.0004
16.0004
Since both of those APQNs reference queue devices that are bound to the
vfio_ap device driver, nothing will get filtered from the mdev's matrix
when updating the guest's AP configuration. Consequently, queue 16.0005
will get passed through despite not being bound to the driver. This
violates the linux device model requirement that a guest shall only be
given access to devices bound to the device driver facilitating their
pass-through.
To resolve this problem, every adapter and domain assigned to the mdev will
be inspected when filtering the mdev's matrix.

Pull networking updates from Paolo Abeni:
"The most interesting thing is probably the networking structs
reorganization and a significant amount of changes is around
self-tests.
Core & protocols:
- Analyze and reorganize core networking structs (socks, netdev,
netns, mibs) to optimize cacheline consumption and set up build
time warnings to safeguard against future header changes
This improves TCP performances with many concurrent connections up
to 40%
- Add page-pool netlink-based introspection, exposing the memory
usage and recycling stats. This helps indentify bad PP users and
possible leaks
- Refine TCP/DCCP source port selection to no longer favor even
source port at connect() time when IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE is set. This
lowers the time taken by connect() for hosts having many active
connections to the same destination
- Refactor the TCP bind conflict code, shrinking related socket
structs
- Refactor TCP SYN-Cookie handling, as a preparation step to allow
arbitrary SYN-Cookie processing via eBPF
- Tune optmem_max for 0-copy usage, increasing the default value to
128KB and namespecifying it
- Allow coalescing for cloned skbs coming from page pools, improving
RX performances with some common configurations
- Reduce extension header parsing overhead at GRO time
- Add bridge MDB bulk deletion support, allowing user-space to
request the deletion of matching entries
- Reorder nftables struct members, to keep data accessed by the
datapath first
- Introduce TC block ports tracking and use. This allows supporting
multicast-like behavior at the TC layer
- Remove UAPI support for retired TC qdiscs (dsmark, CBQ and ATM) and
classifiers (RSVP and tcindex)
- More data-race annotations
- Extend the diag interface to dump TCP bound-only sockets
- Conditional notification of events for TC qdisc class and actions
- Support for WPAN dynamic associations with nearby devices, to form
a sub-network using a specific PAN ID
- Implement SMCv2.1 virtual ISM device support
- Add support for Batman-avd mulicast packet type
BPF:
- Tons of verifier improvements:
- BPF register bounds logic and range support along with a large
test suite
- log improvements
- complete precision tracking support for register spills
- track aligned STACK_ZERO cases as imprecise spilled registers.
This improves the verifier "instructions processed" metric from
single digit to 50-60% for some programs
- support for user's global BPF subprogram arguments with few
commonly requested annotations for a better developer
experience
- support tracking of BPF_JNE which helps cases when the compiler
transforms (unsigned) "a > 0" into "if a == 0 goto xxx" and the
like
- several fixes
- Add initial TX metadata implementation for AF_XDP with support in
mlx5 and stmmac drivers. Two types of offloads are supported right
now, that is, TX timestamp and TX checksum offload
- Fix kCFI bugs in BPF all forms of indirect calls from BPF into
kernel and from kernel into BPF work with CFI enabled. This allows
BPF to work with CONFIG_FINEIBT=y
- Change BPF verifier logic to validate global subprograms lazily
instead of unconditionally before the main program, so they can be
guarded using BPF CO-RE techniques
- Support uid/gid options when mounting bpffs
- Add a new kfunc which acquires the associated cgroup of a task
within a specific cgroup v1 hierarchy where the latter is
identified by its id
- Extend verifier to allow bpf_refcount_acquire() of a map value
field obtained via direct load which is a use-case needed in
sched_ext
- Add BPF link_info support for uprobe multi link along with bpftool
integration for the latter
- Support for VLAN tag in XDP hints
- Remove deprecated bpfilter kernel leftovers given the project is
developed in user-space (https://github.com/facebook/bpfilter)
Misc:
- Support for parellel TC self-tests execution
- Increase MPTCP self-tests coverage
- Updated the bridge documentation, including several so-far
undocumented features
- Convert all the net self-tests to run in unique netns, to avoid
random failures due to conflict and allow concurrent runs
- Add TCP-AO self-tests
- Add kunit tests for both cfg80211 and mac80211
- Autogenerate Netlink families documentation from YAML spec
- Add yml-gen support for fixed headers and recursive nests, the tool
can now generate user-space code for all genetlink families for
which we have specs
- A bunch of additional module descriptions fixes
- Catch incorrect freeing of pages belonging to a page pool
Driver API:

Pull s390 updates from Alexander Gordeev:
- Add machine variable capacity information to /proc/sysinfo.
- Limit the waste of page tables and always align vmalloc area size and
base address on segment boundary.
- Fix a memory leak when an attempt to register interruption sub class
(ISC) for the adjunct-processor (AP) guest failed.
- Reset response code AP_RESPONSE_INVALID_GISA to understandable by
guest AP_RESPONSE_INVALID_ADDRESS in response to a failed
interruption sub class (ISC) registration attempt.
- Improve reaction to adjunct-processor (AP)
AP_RESPONSE_OTHERWISE_CHANGED response code when enabling interrupts
on behalf of a guest.
- Fix incorrect sysfs 'status' attribute of adjunct-processor (AP)
queue device bound to the vfio_ap device driver when the mediated
device is attached to a guest, but the queue device is not passed
through.
- Rework struct ap_card to hold the whole adjunct-processor (AP) card
hardware information. As result, all the ugly bit checks are replaced
by simple evaluations of the required bit fields.
- Improve handling of some weird scenarios between service element (SE)
host and SE guest with adjunct-processor (AP) pass-through support.
- Change local_ctl_set_bit() and local_ctl_clear_bit() so they return
the previous value of the to be changed control register. This is
useful if a bit is only changed temporarily and the previous content
needs to be restored.
- The kernel starts with machine checks disabled and is expected to
enable it once trap_init() is called. However the implementation
allows machine checks early. Consistently enable it in trap_init()
only.
- local_mcck_disable() and local_mcck_enable() assume that machine
checks are always enabled. Instead implement and use
local_mcck_save() and local_mcck_restore() to disable machine checks
and restore the previous state.
- Modification of floating point control (FPC) register of a traced
process using ptrace interface may lead to corruption of the FPC
register of the tracing process. Fix this.
- kvm_arch_vcpu_ioctl_set_fpu() allows to set the floating point
control (FPC) register in vCPU, but may lead to corruption of the FPC
register of the host process. Fix this.
- Use READ_ONCE() to read a vCPU floating point register value from the
memory mapped area. This avoids that, depending on code generation, a
different value is tested for validity than the one that is used.
- Get rid of test_fp_ctl(), since it is quite subtle to use it
correctly. Instead copy a new floating point control register value
into its save area and test the validity of the new value when
loading it.
- Remove superfluous save_fpu_regs() call.
- Remove s390 support for ARCH_WANTS_DYNAMIC_TASK_STRUCT. All machines
provide the vector facility since many years and the need to make the
task structure size dependent on the vector facility does not exist.
- Remove the "novx" kernel command line option, as the vector code runs
without any problems since many years.
- Add the vector facility to the z13 architecture level set (ALS). All
hypervisors support the vector facility since many years. This allows
compile time optimizations of the kernel.
- Get rid of MACHINE_HAS_VX and replace it with cpu_has_vx(). As
result, the compiled code will have less runtime checks and less
code.
- Convert pgste_get_lock() and pgste_set_unlock() ASM inlines to C.
- Convert the struct subchannel spinlock from pointer to member.

the s390 physical machine that the OS is executing on. So it should
be managed by SMC stack instead of ISM driver and be consistent for

a pointer to a spinlock with commit 2ec2298412e1 ("[S390] subchannel

Patch series "s390: A couple of fixes for -Wmissing-prototypes".
This series resolves a couple of -Wmissing-prototypes that I see in my

addresses issues which will be exposed by the later patch
"Makefile.extrawarn: turn on missing-prototypes globally".
This patch (of 2):

strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the
destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear
read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated[1]. Additionally,
it returns the size of the source string, not the resulting size of the
destination string. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely[2], replace
strlcpy() here with strscpy().
Overflow should be impossible here, but actually check for buffer sizes
being identical with BUILD_BUG_ON(), and include a run-time check as well.

As of now the AP card struct held only part of the

As there is a nice bit field union on top of this

The 'status' attribute for AP queue devices bound to the vfio_ap device
driver displays incorrect status when the mediated device is attached to a
guest, but the queue device is not passed through. In the current
implementation, the status displayed is 'in_use' which is not correct; it
should be 'assigned'. This can happen if one of the queue devices
associated with a given adapter is not bound to the vfio_ap device driver.
For example:
Queues listed in /sys/bus/ap/drivers/vfio_ap:
14.0005
14.0006
14.000d
16.0006
16.000d
Queues listed in /sys/devices/vfio_ap/matrix/$UUID/matrix
14.0005
14.0006
14.000d
16.0005
16.0006
16.000d
Queues listed in /sys/devices/vfio_ap/matrix/$UUID/guest_matrix
14.0005
14.0006
14.000d
The reason no queues for adapter 0x16 are listed in the guest_matrix is
because queue 16.0005 is not bound to the vfio_ap device driver, so no
queue associated with the adapter is passed through to the guest;
therefore, each queue device for adapter 0x16 should display 'assigned'
instead of 'in_use', because those queues are not in use by a guest, but
only assigned to the mediated device.
Let's check the AP configuration for the guest to determine whether a
queue device is passed through before displaying a status of 'in_use'.

The interception handler for the PQAP(AQIC) command calls the
kvm_s390_gisc_register function to register the guest ISC with the channel
subsystem. If that call fails, the status response code 08 - indicating
Invalid ZONE/GISA designation - is returned to the guest. This response
code is not valid because setting the ZONE/GISA values is the
responsibility of the hypervisor controlling the guest and there is nothing
that can be done from the guest perspective to correct that problem.
The likelihood of GISC registration failure is nil and there is no status
response code to indicate an invalid ISC value, so let's set the response
code to 06 indicating 'Invalid address of AP-queue notification byte'.
While this is not entirely accurate, it is better than setting a response
code which makes no sense for the guest.

In the vfio_ap_irq_enable function, after the page containing the
notification indicator byte (NIB) is pinned, the function attempts
to register the guest ISC. If registration fails, the function sets the
status response code and returns without unpinning the page containing

Ever since the eventfd type was introduced back in 2007 in commit
e1ad7468c77d ("signal/timer/event: eventfd core") the eventfd_signal()
function only ever passed 1 as a value for @n. There's no point in
keeping that additional argument.

Additional data length in the attestation request is an in/out variable.
Software provides the capacity of the buffer. Upon successful request,
firmware reports the actual bytes written to the additional data in that
field. This information is lost, as the length field was not copied back
to userspace before. Attestation might fail, if user space did not
specify the exact amount of needed bytes required, as this length is
part of the attestation measurement.

In dasd_profile_start() the amount of requests on the device queue are
counted. The access to the device queue is unprotected against
concurrent access. With a lot of parallel I/O, especially with alias
devices enabled, the device queue can change while dasd_profile_start()
is accessing the queue. In the worst case this leads to a kernel panic
due to incorrect pointer accesses.
Fix this by taking the device lock before accessing the queue and
counting the requests. Additionally the check for a valid profile data
pointer can be done earlier to avoid unnecessary locking in a hot path.

Since commit a72178cfe855 ("net/smc: Fix dependency of SMC on ISM")
you can build the ism code without selecting the SMC network protocol.
That leaves some ism functions be reported as unused. Move these
functions under the conditional compile with CONFIG_SMC.
Also codify the suggestion to also configure the SMC protocol in ism's
Kconfig - but with an "imply" rather than a "select" as SMC depends on
other config options and allow for a deliberate decision not to build
SMC. Also, mention that in ISM's help.

A secure execution (SE, also known as confidential computing)
guest may see asynchronous errors on a crypto firmware queue.
The current implementation to gather information about cards
and queues in ap_queue_info() simple returns if an asynchronous
error is hanging on the firmware queue. If such a situation
happened and it was the only queue visible for a crypto card
within an SE guest, then the card vanished from sysfs as
the AP bus scan function refuses to hold a card without any
type information. As lszcrypt evaluates the sysfs such
a card vanished from the lszcrypt card listing and the
user is baffled and has no way to reset and thus clear the
pending asynchronous error.
This patch improves the named function to also evaluate GR2
of the TAPQ in case of asynchronous error pending. If there
is a not-null value stored in, the info is processed now.
In the end, a queue with pending asynchronous error does not
lead to a vanishing card any more.

If a card or a queue is in check-stop state, it can't be used by
applications to perform crypto operations. Applications check the 'online'
sysfs attribute to check if a card or queue is usable.
Report a card or queue as offline in case it is in check-stop state.
Furthermore, don't allow to set a card or queue online, if it is in
check-stop state.
This is similar to when the card or the queue is in deconfigured state,
there it is also reported as being offline, and it can't be set online.

Fix kernel crash in AP bus code caused by very early invocation of the
config change callback function via SCLP.
After a fresh IML of the machine the crypto cards are still offline and
will get switched online only with activation of any LPAR which has the
card in it's configuration. A crypto card coming online is reported
to the LPAR via SCLP and the AP bus offers a callback function to get
this kind of information. However, it may happen that the callback is
invoked before the AP bus init function is complete. As the callback
triggers a synchronous AP bus scan, the scan may already run but some
internal states are not initialized by the AP bus init function resulting
in a crash like this:

This patch improves the ap_bus_force_rescan() function which is
invoked by the config change callback by checking if a first

This patch introduces some code lines which check
for interrupt support enabled on an AP queue after
a reply has been received. This invocation has been
chosen as there is a good chance to have the queue
empty at that time. As the enablement of the irq
imples a state machine change the queue should not
have any pending requests or unreceived replies.

This patch reworks the irq handling and reporting code
for the AP queue interrupt handling to always use the
irq info from the queue status.
Until now the interrupt status of an AP queue was stored
into a bool variable within the ap_queue struct. This
variable was set on a successful interrupt enablement
and cleared with kicking a reset. However, it may be
that the interrupt state is manipulated outband for
example by a hypervisor. This patch removes this variable
and instead the irq bit from the AP queue status which is
always reflecting the current irq state is used.

- Add sysctl to make connection timeout in MPTCP configurable.
- Support rcvlowat and notsent_lowat on MPTCP sockets, to help apps

table.
- Support selective FDB flushing in the VXLAN tunnel driver.
- Allow limiting learned FDB entries in bridges, prevent OOM attacks.
- Allow controlling via configfs netconsole targets which were
created via the kernel cmdline at boot, rather than via configfs at
runtime.
- Support multiple PTP timestamp event queue readers with different
filters.
- MCTP over I3C.
BPF:
- Add new veth-like netdevice where BPF program defines the logic of
the xmit routine. It can operate in L3 and L2 mode.
- Support exceptions - allow asserting conditions which should never
be true but are hard for the verifier to infer. With some extra
flexibility around handling of the exit / failure:
https://lwn.net/Articles/938435/
- Add support for local per-cpu kptr, allow allocating and storing
per-cpu objects in maps. Access to those objects operates on the
value for the current CPU.
This allows to deprecate local one-off implementations of per-CPU
storage like BPF_MAP_TYPE_PERCPU_CGROUP_STORAGE maps.
- Extend cgroup BPF sockaddr hooks for UNIX sockets. The use case is
for systemd to re-implement the LogNamespace feature which allows

of different services.
- Enable open-coded task_vma iteration, after maple tree conversion
made it hard to directly walk VMAs in tracing programs.

use cases is customizable OOM victim selection via BPF.
- Allow source address selection with bpf_*_fib_lookup().
- Add ability to pin BPF timer to the current CPU.
- Prevent creation of infinite loops by combining tail calls and
fentry/fexit programs.
- Add missed stats for kprobes to retrieve the number of missed
kprobe executions and subsequent executions of BPF programs.
- Inherit system settings for CPU security mitigations.
- Add BPF v4 CPU instruction support for arm32 and s390x.
Changes to common code:
- overflow: add DEFINE_FLEX() for on-stack definition of structs with
flexible array members.
- Process doc update with more guidance for reviewers.
Driver API:
- Simplify locking in WiFi (cfg80211 and mac80211 layers), use wiphy
mutex in most places and remove a lot of smaller locks.
- Create a common DPLL configuration API. Allow configuring and
querying state of PLL circuits used for clock syntonization, in
network time distribution.
- Unify fragmented and full page allocation APIs in page pool code.
Let drivers be ignorant of PAGE_SIZE.
- Rework PHY state machine to avoid races with calls to phy_stop().

strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings
[1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string
interfaces.
We expect both `params` and `id` to be NUL-terminated based on their
usage with format strings:
format_node_data(iuparams, iunodeid, &lir->incident_node);
format_node_data(auparams, aunodeid, &lir->attached_node);
switch (lir->iq.class) {
case LIR_IQ_CLASS_DEGRADED:
pr_warn("Link degraded: RS=%02x RSID=%04x IC=%02x "
"IUPARAMS=%s IUNODEID=%s AUPARAMS=%s AUNODEID=%s\n",
sei_area->rs, sei_area->rsid, lir->ic, iuparams,
iunodeid, auparams, aunodeid);
NUL-padding is not required as both `params` and `id` have been memset
to 0:
memset(params, 0, PARAMS_LEN);
memset(id, 0, NODEID_LEN);
Considering the above, a suitable replacement is `strscpy` [2] due to
the fact that it guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer
without unnecessarily NUL-padding.
Note that there's no overread bugs in the current implementation as the
string literal "n/a" has a size much smaller than PARAMS_LEN or
NODEID_LEN. Nonetheless, let's favor strscpy().

Let's move away from using strncpy() as it is deprecated [1].
Instead use strtomem() as `e.id` is already marked as nonstring:
| char id[4] __nonstring;
We don't need strtomem_pad() because `e` is already memset to 0 --
rendering any additional NUL-padding useless.

Change format of the "cmg" sysfs attribute from hex to decimal to
make it easier to consume. Note that this should not break any existing
users since only values 2 and 3 are currently exported. Also the main
user already assumes decimal notation [1].
